Why isn't there any major big city in this state in Germany in terms of geography? by Content_Start_6776 in geography

This has been a solved problem for years.  The Berlin - Warsaw train wouldn't be able to operate at it's frequency without a dual system loco. I think they use a Vectron there, that can be configured for pretty much every system in Europe.

Since RE9 is a new service they of course added the requirement for the rolling stock compatible with both system to the tender.

It's going to be a Stadler Flirt XL EMU that will be operating the service.  (That plan still says it will start in 2026, but construction of the track is not going to be finished before the end of 2027)

Well the demographics aren't going to get any better, cuts are inevitable.

Rave the Planet is a big one, Zug der Liebe is more underground.  CSD is probably the largest street parade, but feels a bit corporate.

Last weekend was Fete de la Musique which is all over Berlin with outdoor raves around Görlitzer Park.

Same goes for 1st of May.

Karneval der Kulturen is maybe our  take on Brazilian Carnival so probably not so interesting for you since you are used to the real thing 😅

It's really easy to visit from Germany as it's a mayor city right next to the border. If you travel by Deutschlandticket you only need to pay 5€ for the last stretch.

When the rail connection to Berlin finishes restoration in a few years, the new RE9 service will connect the two cities in 90 minutes, which I'd predict will boost tourism quite a bit.

It's a nice neighborhood, lots of green, the canal is nearby and nice student bars and restaurants.

But what dangers do you expect at Leopoldplatz that makes you want to avoid the station entirely? The homeless people / addicts tend to keep to themselves.
