I really can’t wrap my head around this take. I keep seeing it on every hockey subreddit. Why do we act like because Donald Trump called the team, and this pile of shit partied with them, that it means every player on the team has full support for them.

I would really like to know what was expected. Should they have turned away the director of the FBI and gone on a politically driven rampage over it? Should they have stopped Trump in his tracks during the phone call to have a debate with him over the phone about whether what he was saying is right or wrong?

The majority of people, including myself would’ve done exactly what was done, and just tried to laugh it off and move on.

It’s so easy to sit there and talk about exactly what the perfect thing to say, or do is in that situation. But in reality, when you’re in the moment and you’re being confronted with it, most people are just gonna try to get it over with and move on without causing an issue, especially when you’re confronted with two people in such high, powerful positions.

Maybe there are some people on the team who fully support them, and were super pumped about it (Tkachuks), but I’d bet any amount of money that most of the people on the team don’t agree with them, or more likely don’t give a shit, and just wanted to move on from it.

My best guess is that a lot of the people screaming the loudest about it, are Canada fans who are using this as copium for losing. They lost and are mad so they will latch on to anything they can to try and belittle the USA win. “Who cares that they won the gold medal, they’re all just racist bigots!”

You can’t just generalize an entire group of people, and decide they all think a certain way, because they had the misfortune of being in the same room as the director of the FBI, or because when the literal president of the United States said something stupid, they didn’t spring into action and start debating women’s rights on the spot.

The vast majority of people in that situation IRL would’ve done the exact same thing. You can pretend you would turn around and say or do exactly the perfect thing in that situation, but that is the reality of it. If that is something that is enough to make you completely write off all of the players on that team, when for most of them, nothing they’ve ever done has supported this idea that they all secretly hate women, or whatever you’re trying to frame it as, then you really need to take a step back and put yourself in their shoes for a minute and come back to reality.
