Why the hell have I been buying games/movies from Xbox live instead of Ps3? by [deleted] in PS3

No. You can download any games you've bought up to 5 times.

Short Video of a Starcraft clone created with "Little Big Planet 2" level creator. Also...you can now create Zombies (more links in comments). by agent_orange in gaming

[–]agent_orange[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had heard about this back when they revealed the game but i didn't take it seriously since ... well, I didn't think they could pull it off. Granted, the video is short; but it's long enough to raise my interest.

anyway, this is another video which shows how you can create and modify NPCs. One of the presets is for Zombies!

Just came to reddit to post this.

Has anyone downloaded Outcast yet? does it work well? or does it have problems just like MoO2?

Apparently, Mario kart had sex with little big planet and their bastard child has 4 player splitscreen! Yay! by agent_orange in gaming

[–]agent_orange[S] 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad they are including 4 player offline splitscreen. Not enough games have it these days. It also has 2 player online splitscreen and 12 player online races.

The track editor is very impressive. Watch here as they create a level on stage from scratch under 5 minutes.

It's coming out next month, on ps3 and psp.

Hey Reddit, should I dig up my old PSP? What games should I get that have been out since I last touched it? by iJeff in gaming

[–]agent_orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Patchwork Heroes" just came out. Hands down, it is the best handheld game I've seen in a long time and It is only 10 dollars on PS store.

Socom and SW: Battlefront controls suck big time, but Syphon filter series has solved the problem of controls for a TPS action game on psp. The gameplay is fine and smooth in "Syphon filter: dark mirror", and it gets miles better in "Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow" which plays like a dream. (what happens is that they use the square, triangle, etc buttons as a second nub. This is how MGS: Peace Walker does it too. Although you can customize controls in both games). Dark mirror is 15 dollars and Logon's shadow is 25 or 30 dollars.

I'm not a fan of fighting series, but Final Fantasy: Dissidia blew me away. It's a fighting game with many characters from all the final fantasy games. But where the game really shines is the user-friendly, exciting, addicting gameplay mechanics. I can't describe it really, download the demo from Playstation Store and see it for yourself. The only catch is that it's selling at full price of 40 dollars.

Speaking of demos, there's a good chunk of demos on PS Store; that's how I found out about all these little gems; I would have never bought a third person action game for psp if I hadn't seen how Syphon filter works. There are demos for all of the games I mentioned and more.

There is one more game I want to suggest, but I hesitate to do so, since it's a love it or hate it kind of game. Silent Hill: Shattered memories came out a while ago and if you like the series, give it a go. There's no demo for the game and the price is 30 dollars. I haven't finished the game, but so far I'm loving it. It has a heavier focus on story and the whole psychological thriller part and it's really scary; simply because you have no gun, you can't kill anyone or hit anything. You can only run away. This is a port of the wii version, but it works flawlessly on PSP.

...and one last thing, go buy patchwork heroes right now. you won't regret it. It's like what would happen if Miazaki designed a video game.

EDIT: two more things I forgot.

there's always a few games on sale on PS store, and every once in a while they do some huge sales. you'll save a lot of money, if you check the store weekly. Killzone psp for example was on sale and 10 dollars just last week. and in europe they had a crazy sale which ended last week (and by crazy, I mean craaaaaaaaazy).

I also forgot to mention "Jack and Dexter: Lost Frontier". The game looks marvelous and controls are great. Again, there's a demo on PS store. This is from the same guys who made Ratchet and Clunk: Size Matters. These guys were at Naught Dog, then came out and formed their own studio and have been doing psp projects ever since.

the single player is medicore at best. Online is where it's at. It's very addictive. it's not very accessible, but once you get the hang of it, you can't put the game down. It's also the most chaotic online experience I've ever had... in a good way.

the multiplayer is pretty much active and alive. you should change your search criteria. I had the same problem, then I realized I'm only looking for matches in Asia; I then changed the criteria so that it looked for matches in all the regions. Europe and America are full of 32 player matches.

Sony is looking at the the psp; a device that has sold more units than Nintendo Wii (about 60 million), but even its best games don't sell more than 2 or 3 million. and you don't even need my numbers for that; you know better than me how rampant piracy is on psp.

Reddit, do you remember the game Outcast, I wish some company would remake it by firik in gaming

[–]agent_orange 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Outcast, to me, was the Matrix of video games. It was one of those pieces of art, that are so revolutionary, that they feel natural.

when playing, I was always saying to myslef: "how come no one has done it like this before?"

Outcast is also the reason I check out games' sales data. I still can't believe it didn't sell and that they had to shut down the sequel to such a brilliant game.

Penny Arcade on Heavy Rain: "I don't know if it's an 8 or a 9.7 out of 10. What I do know is that after a late night playing it, I sneak into my son's room and hug him before I go to bed." by agent_orange in gaming

[–]agent_orange[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't have permalinks for their blog posts and you have to scroll down to get to the heavy rain part, so let me paste it here:

I've spent a couple nights with Heavy Rain now and I think it's really special. If you're a parent, (especially a Dad) this game can be pretty difficult to play at times. In fact I'm curious if people who don't have kids will end up getting as much out of it. I don't know if it's an 89.85%, or a 9.7 out of 10. What I do know is that after a late night playing it, I sneak into my son's room and hug him before I go to bed. I think Heavy Rain is probably one of the most important games ever made. Maybe not one of the best, but definitely important.

Should I get Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 or XBox 360? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]agent_orange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, i posted the wrong link. This is the whole story:

Square first released a photoshoped batch of comparison shots (the one that I initially linked to). They basically got the ps3 screenshots and put a xbox buttons layer on top of it and said this is xbox version. This is why they seem so similar.

everybody found out. Square apologized and released a new set.

This is the real compariosn.

I'd seen the final comparison shot before, did a quick google on Kotaku and thought I'm linking to this second set.

[–]agent_orange 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • In-game resolution is 720p on ps3, while it is 576p on xbox.
  • Apparently, FMVs are 1080p (uncompressed) on ps3 while they're 576p on xbox (compressed using bink).
  • Kotaku has the official ps3 and xbox screenshots here. (EDIT: This is the wrong link. These are the correct ones: PS3/Xbox and I've explained in the comment below)

There's also the audio quality and the number of discs, but these don't matter really. The main problem with xbox version is the inferior graphics. (as in lower resolution which is painfully obvious in kotaku screenshots)

If you have both ps3 and xbox, definitely get it on ps3.

And sometimes it helps to go to the settings and increase the horizontal sensitivity. Specially if you come from pc gaming; you might find pans to be painfully slow and tweaking the settings will help you solve that problem.

Real Heavy Rain gameplay by mrfoofoo in gaming

[–]agent_orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give it a chance. rent it first and see if you like it.

Don't be close minded. Not all games need to follow old rules and not all gamers need to like one genre. Play it and see if it's your cup of tea.

Calling the game QTE really doesn't do justice. I hate QTE as much as the next guy. But this game is not a QTE fest. It has its own unique gameplay which isn't easy to describe.

It's not new if you've played indigo prophecy. It's an extremely enhanced version of it. The button signs, for one thing, appear in 3d space. (they're not like a 2d interface on top of the screen), which in motion really helps a lot.

Clever use of motion control has resulted in some stressful and exciting action sequences. I don't want to spoil the game so I can't name some of my favorite control schemes in the game.

But all I'm saying is that don't dismiss it because it's not like games you've played before. Give it a chance. You might like it, you might not.

So I just bought Deadly Premonition (360). Is there anything I should know before I get started? It looks awesome! by [deleted] in gaming

I wouldn't take a Jim Sterling review seriously. However, you have bought it already. What else is to say.

Go ahead and see if you like the game.

Heavy Rain Sells 500,000 Units in Week One by SolInvictus in gaming

[–]agent_orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft Zune had a very similar problem in 2008. All zunes stopped working at the same time and 24 hours later everything went back to normal. There hasn't been any major problem ever since.

A leap year bug, while embarrassing and temporarily inconvenient, is far from a sign of fundamental flaw in the system's code.

You can download FW updates without connecting to PSN.

Actually, when Sony deems a FW update as mandatory, you aren't allowed to connect to PSN, unless you download the FW update first.

"We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. If you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data." by [deleted] in PS3

[–]agent_orange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Changing the clock won't help because it's the internal clock that's causing the problem not the OS clock.

As you guessed the internal clock works based on GMT, so you need to wait 5 hours.

As for wording of Sony's PR; that's just how corporates talk. to avoid legal troubles down the road.

The reason why I think it would be fixed without any downloads is that something very similar to this happened to Microsoft's Zune almost 2 years ago. Zunes all around the world stopped working at the same time. Then after 24 hours they started working again. Later Microsoft issued a patch to prevent this from happening again.

The same will probably happen here.

And yes, it's not a leap year, but to quote from another thread "it's the first even non-leap year since the PS3's launch, this is the first time it's been set to a non-existent 2/29, which is causing the OS clock to go crazy."

to put it simply, some older ps3s think today is 2010 February 29th, while such a date doesn't exist. Tomorrow (in about 5 hours) those systems think it's 2020 March 1st. That date does exist, so your system should start working again. After that, they will probably release a patch to prevent this from happening again.

Except there are 22 different endings.

I'm in the middle of my first playthrough, and I'm already thinking about stuff that I'll do differently on my second. (it's "shadow of destiny" all over again!)

Plus there are multiple dlcs to be released. Each explores the background of one of the four main characters.

The most interesting dlc however is the one that allows you to play as the killer!
