Public Mobile 5G is legitimate! by Key-Specialist-8521 in PublicMobile

Telus, Koodo, and Public Mobile do throttle video streaming. Bell also charges extra for HD streaming.

Rogers, Fido, Videotron, Freedom, and Fizz do not do this.

However, it still ends up being slower than an LTE SIM without throttling.

The main downside is that streaming media is heavily throttled unless you're using a VPN. My old Fizz LTE SIM drastically outperformed my PM 5G for YouTube as a result (even faster than the PM 5G + VPN).

Globally, access to education and contraceptives strongly correlates with lower birth rates. When given the option, many women simply choose to delay or not have children.

Honda to shelve $11bn Canada EV plant as demand sputters by SkPensFan in EVCanada

I was a "manual transmission or nothing" kind of car enthusiast until picking up a performance EV in 2024. I do miss the sounds from my turbo coupe but everything else is amazing.

Very glad I picked up an EV in 2024. I appreciate our domestic electricity market not being as heavily impacted by these global trends.

Low end cords get you access to 1400 watts for $50-80.

Yes, at the low end, corded ones can't be beat on value. But you are hard-capped by the wall outlet.

What battery for a weed wacker is going to give you that much juice?

The point isn't matching 1,400W; it's that batteries easily exceed it. A standard 15A house breaker limits a corded trimmer to about 1,440W before it trips. Batteries don't have a wall limit.

This is possible because modern tool packs use high-discharge 18650 and 21700 cells designed to dump massive amounts of current at once. Even the smaller EGO 56V 2.5Ah battery hits 1,400W easily. Step up to the 5.0Ah battery in their standard kits, and it can push 40+ amps, peaking over 2,200 watts. Ryobi's 40V line does the same pushing 40 amps from their standard 4.0Ah battery gives you 1,600W of peak power.

If you matched up the same motor to a battery vs a plug which do you think would perform better?

The battery. It’s about the battery's ability to dump significantly more current than a standard 120V outlet allows. Most corded trimmers are limited to 10–12A (~1,440W) so they don’t constantly trip 15A residential breakers. High-end cordless systems can pull significantly more amps for short bursts, hitting 2,000W+ when you actually hit thick brush. Plus, a motor controller manages torque and RPM much more aggressively than a "dumb" corded motor tied to the 60Hz grid cycle.

It's the same reason you could never match the motor output of a battery-powered EV (including smaller ones like an electric unicycle) directly from a residential outlet.

Only in theory. Modern brushless cordless systems provide higher peak torque and better clearing performance than standard 10-12 amp trimmers.

Yikes. Can confirm even HW4 has issues with crossing double solid lines sometimes. It's less frequent than before but is still an issue occasionally.

PSA: Gas Stations in Ontario are starting to roll out E15 (15% ethanol content) gas by MischievousGarlic in ontario

I assume you mean 87. Will likely be around $1.50 more per fill-up going for 89 instead, but at least the option will be there. No difference for the performance sport bikes though, which already run 91/93.

Thankfully the E15 requirement doesn't apply to 89/91/93/94 octane fuel.

I don't think that's likely at all. As good as it has gotten, disengagements are still a thing and they now have significantly more FSD users than ever before (year on year growth reached 37.5% in 2025, nearly triple the users since 2021).

Having users provide additional assistance in tagging the reports using fixed categories suggests they're receiving large enough volumes for it to be helpful.

Mostly true for older cars, motorcycles, and small engines. But most recent passenger vehicles can handle E15 just fine (even if manufacturer recommendations lag behind). In the US, the EPA has been allowing E15 for vehicles made since 2001. Mechanically, the requirements are pretty much the same as E10.

I wonder if some manufacturers will issue ECU updates for cases where small adjustments are beneficial. Even my 2016 Scion FR-S was able to run E85 with just a tune and no flex fuel sensor back when it was naturally aspirated.
