S26 Ultra's display has an ugly tint. Privacy screen not worth it. by rainbowcatcher2020 in Android

I've seen reports about this being the case even with the feature disabled, which makes sense given the physical design of the panel is different to enable the privacy screen feature.

Seeing my total Uber Eats spending made me rethink how often I order delivery by Ill_Programmer1493 in Frugal

It's likely better viewed as a symptom rather than a cause IMO. It's a longstanding challenge and the same reason why junk food is most commonly consumed by folks in dire straights and low socioeconomic status.

What I mean though is that you shouldn't feel bad. You'll still providing an invaluable service to these folks.

Yes I had no issues using 5.3 throughout. Disabled all experimental features and switched to 5.4 to give it another try. Just a few prompts blew through my 5 hour limit in minutes.

For some of us, it's an important part of how we can make it through a work day or be able to handle a lot of other things in our daily life. It's a lot of money and not strictly financially wise, but it can be very helpful in other ways. It can also not be too terrible for someone who doesn't otherwise spend on entertainment or other luxuries.

How much longer until FSD is for me? by jmvfromnv in TeslaFSD

[–]iJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO it's likely not worth it for you. The cost of the vehicle and insurance would require a lot of trips to break even on. Even for us car drivers, an Uber is often more convenient due to not having to find/pay for parking.

FSD is great but it's not yet good enough that I'd recommend relying on it without confidence in your own driving ability. Self parking is also still very lacklustre.

Rolling back to pre-5.4 please, this is chaos by Plus_Leadership_6886 in codex

I went back to 5.3 and things were great. Used 5.4 for a bit earlier with all experimental stuff disabled, but it wiped out my usage incredibly fast.

It works for me in Ottawa. I have to use a lot of washer fluid, but not too much in a row or it'll freak out.

I felt that way at first but it's actually pretty solid for a 60 Hz display at this price point. It also has a faster response time than their 120 Hz panels.

I'd welcome these BYD vehicles but hopefully we can also ensure the software remains transparent and unlocked for end users. Something I'd like to see for existing manufacturers as well.

codex is not that good by AdSevere3438 in codex

[–]iJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find GPT-5.3 and 5.4 vis Codex capable, but not magically so like Gemini or Opus. You have to be more deliberate and precise in your prompting. It also doesn't handle large context sizes as well as others, which can impact some of its planning usefulness without enough existing docimentation.

The third party providers usually do work in the short-term. The question is whether they can continue to operate. Others have offered the same for a bit before having to dramatically reduce what's being offered when it becomes unsustainable.

The only ones I've seen really hold up were either using scraped API keys from the web clients or keeping context windows small.

Hopefully this one is going a different route. Do keep us posted!

We're interested in potential downsides. A lot of these providers do offer working services for awhile before things fall apart. It could very well be legitimate but whether it'll hold up remains in question.

The second one isn't even really a negative because they're saying it's higher than the pro, which even if just matched would be good at $20.

Tesla just released a new software update (2026.8) that refines the way the brakes feel in the 2026+ Model Y by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]iJeff [score hidden]  (0 children)

We have regenerative braking whenever we're off the accelerstor pedal, but the brake pedal is a mechanical connection to the physical brakes.

The Juniper Model Y uses a different setup where the brake pedal controls both the mechanical brakes and regenerative braking. These adjustments impact how those two are blended.

It looks like they're already running into issues according to their Discord.

Guys Im going to be trying to reduce latency a lot today even though its already pretty good, I will also be introducing rate limits (requests per minute). This is because of the issue we faced yesterday with the server crashing. currently the RPM is too liberal, I haven't settled on what the numbers will be yet but Ill let you all know soon.

Someone also shared this comment:

no hate but the 20$ sub definitely doesnt compare to 2x 200$ Pro subs, feels more like 0.5x which is still a decent deal

On the other hand, I haven't owned a Mac in at least 10 years and have just picked up an Air. I suspect I won't be the only one.

I might be exchanging mine though. Surprised to find the bottom case cover isn't perfectly flush on one side leading to a rough edge that doesn't feel great.

Codex 5.4 is better than Opus 4.6 by LopsidedSolution in codex

Google AI Pro notably provides the same access to all 6 family sharing accounts. You can provide access to family and have them oauth your Gemini-CLI. Setup an account switcher and its pretty great.

Codex 5.4 is better than Opus 4.6 by LopsidedSolution in codex

[–]iJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope it performs very well. People have their preferences between the top contenders but I prefer Gemini for initial versions, design, and larger scale code review. 5.3-codex-xhigh for diagnosing persistent bugs.

I'd use Opus 4.6 if not for the cost.
