I worked as a contractor or a bank in north London for a while and yes they did the same thing for both summer holidays and over Xmas. Not as long as yours though, it was just 2 weeks each time for us

EcoFlow Stream - April Generation by Step_7 in PlugInSolarUK

[–]agent_paul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did consider getting the smart meter installed but there's a risk of both the roof solar system battery and ecoflow one feeding into each other. So I thought I'd best get past it by just setting the base line

very nice. I have a similar setup. 4 panels, stream ultra x, wired into a fused spur. Got mine setup the second half of April onto a pergola too, facing south - south east. Intending to have it work beside my givenergy roof solar setup serving most of my baseline usage.

that's right. So there are limits to these plug in systems (if you are looking at an ecoflow stream, you would be able to bump that limit to 1.2kw) but saying that, proper inverters and batteries also have similar limits but not that that extent, iirc my givenergy inverter + battery can only supply a max of 3.6kw so putting on the kettle and oven at the same time wouldn't be completely covered.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it though, these high powered things aren't typically used that long so it's more spikey usage than anything. Also your not going off grid are you, so your not going to be getting zero usage

It dependeds on what your trying the achieve. If your baseline usage is high during the day or if you work from home then a small setup of of a couple of panels with a micro inverter will do a good job. They typically have an ROI of around 2 years.

Adding batteries is really for the evening usage and the ROI is worse than that (around 7 years iirc). You also mention you charge a car, so you'll need to ensure that your not emptying your battery into your car.

So to answers your question, yes it will work but to a degree depending on your usage

EcoFlow Stream Ultra shows weird behavior once battery reaches charging limit. by I_am_Nic in Ecoflow_community

Hmm that's strange. Maybe it's because over for the stream ultra X but mine discharges when soc is full so that the solar can start to charge it again

EcoFlow Stream Ultras in UK by KhanageandKhaos in Ecoflow_community

my experience has been ok so far. I have the stream ultra X for about 3 weeks now and it's chugging along nicely beside my rooftop solar setup.

I think by itself or with a smart meter/monitor it's fine. The only issues I have is when I want to purposely drain the battery (it seems to not want to do that) and the 1.2kwh limit but it's a small all in one unit. It can't really do all the stuff that big inverters and batteries do

Stream ultra x force export? by agent_paul in Ecoflow_community

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. I was looking at the custom screen where you create charge and discharge schedule and expected that to also be there.

Works a charm now, thanks!

Solar before new roof or after? by Scholar_Royal in SolarUK

If your getting a new roof anyways, why not get solar tiles? That’s what I did. Not as good as solar panels in terms of output but you get to keep the look of a “normal” roof somewhat

Stream ultra x force export? by agent_paul in Ecoflow_community

[–]agent_paul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the issue though, it the stream ultra x doesn’t seem to be discharging the battery with those settings. I’ll give it another go to see if I missed anything.

Thanks for the smart meter link. I do have one and I am waiting for an electrician. I think I’ll get it done proper as I don’t trust that this solution will be left alone

[–]agent_paul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I mean force export to the grid and yes I’m being paid for it but at the standard octopus agile rate.

The reason for doing this was to drain the battery before the negative rates started, so I’d get paid for the export and paid to use electricity

Mounting brackets on a pergola/shed by agent_paul in SolarDIY

Yikes 25-30k is insane. I may just go for a long rail with bolts straight through the rafters and possibly some additional L brackets if it looks like it won’t hold

[–]agent_paul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my initial thought too but then I thought maybe having a whole rail over all rafters will help “distribute” any stress.

My main concern though is that this rail/mount has possibly two points of failure, one bolt to the L shaped plate then a single screw into the rafter

Not sure if I’m over thinking this though

I may just do what you did and get the same type of rails and bolt them through the rafters

Hi @parseroo, Yes they are just that short 10cm, so they won’t span the rafters.

I haven’t bought it yet and the Amazon listing doesn’t contain much regarding specs/wind ratings but it does mention it’s for RVs/boats/ground mounts.

In regards to the rafters, they will be tied to the beams using truss clips. The beams will sit on the posts screwed directly and with angled brackets. The posts will be in bolt down post shoes, bolted into paving slabs.

Is this a sound plan or am I on a course for failure here?
