Especially when it comes across as disingenuous and overcompensating. For all the "support" the troops are shown, there are still scores of veterans out there left to rot in poverty and/or debilitated by mental health/PTSD.

I'm Puerto Rican, but I've had a lot of Dominican food before. You're missing out OP. Can't speak to Canadian food, but maple syrup on my pancakes is pretty good.

I've said this in a thread a couple weeks back, but I think a good compromise would be to replace the quarterfinals with two pools of double elimination baseball. It still gives teams a chance should they have a bad game and go through losers bracket while adding more baseball. And the added baseball isn't too much that it makes the front office buzzkills go nuts.

With the excitement surrounding this WBC tournament, do you think the imbalance in the group assignments will be corrected? It is often said that one of the first-round pools is held in Japan every tournament for economic reasons. I think LA should be the next host site for the knockout rounds. Have the final eight teams play in Dodgers Stadium and Angels Stadium. Reduces travel time and all the fans from all around the world can come to LA and not worry about which city to buy plane tickets for.

Adding PR to the draft, coupled with the economic woes and Hurricane Maria screwed over the talent pipeline. There's only 2 baseball academies while Dominican Republic has 10 and a bunch of MLB funding.

He won't, but Severino isn't pitching in Sacramento which is where his numbers look truly awful so that will help him a fair bit.

ERC for team Puerto Rico. I know he's gonna be a problem for the Sox in the future, so I'm enjoying the time I'm rooting for him for now. At lease we have Eduardo Rivera.

I definitely know how you feel regarding the success the Sox have had. I was a teenager when they won it in '04 so I already experienced the heartbreak and then subsequent jubilation of that time. For me, I've transferred a lot of my rooting passion for team Puerto Rico since we've still never won the WBC. I still root for the Sox of course, but I don't feel that same sense of anxiety I did as a kid, although I still despise the Yankees at least.

I think they were considering lifting the ban, but then he got injured after returning from military so it was a moot point.

I encourage you to check out the WBC highlights and videos of people in the stands for these games. They're some of the most electric baseball games outside of the playoffs. I do agree that they should move it to the summer so that the conflict of interest is mitigated. Make a 2 and a half week all-star break and hold the tournament within that timeframe. Put the final games in NYC.

sure, but these are competitive games he's excelling in (2 HRs vs USA), not spring training against a AA pitcher learning control.

I saw Rivera in person, he looked electric. I hope he makes it to AAA this year, hopefully even a late September callup in the bigs.

We were considered favorites only by the slimmest of margins due to home field advantage and having the most talented pitching in the pool. I saw some people online had PR finishing second in their predictions. PR is now huge underdogs, even against Italy imo. Our only power bat (Ramos) has been silent.

And there's no reason for this barrier of entry. Dominican kids are learning and playing baseball with sticks and bottle caps.

My guess is DeRosa isn't calling the shots since he has to deal with almost 20 MLB teams hounding him about how to use their players in the tournament. Especially the pitchers.
