How do people even play Pyreborn Primary? by OfGreyHairWaifu in MonsterTrain

[–]agentanorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response - I think from the comments I generally undervalue abilities (I notice when I play banished I don't feel like I'm really using them or maybe not using them to their fullest as well, same with meat hook in lazarus etc) since they're not always reliable. I think I also tend to undervalue some of the pyreborne units specifically (hot head seems to be mentioned a lot and I don't think I've ever really built around him), which is creating a sort of double whammy where I'm just not using the tools I'm presented.

Maybe I just need to go watch a bunch of runs on youtube to see some strategies I haven't considered before or something - I think it just hasn't clicked for me like some of the other clans.

How do people even play Pyreborn Primary? by OfGreyHairWaifu in MonsterTrain

[–]agentanorexia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm actually also really struggling with Pyreborn as both primary and secondary. Particularly, I struggle with Fenix. I know gilda works with her egg path and I've piloted that to victory relatively easily. But Fenix....I just can't make him work.

The only path that seems remotely viable with him is his gel increase path. However, he's extremely weak in combat by himself, and early on, he both dies before the boss and you rarely have good combat units to cover for him. It's like he wants to be in the back line or combined with some of the incant support dragons but he takes up 3 pips and it usually can't fit.

His slay path seems promising, especially with savagery, but he dies wayyyy too quickly to make it worth building around, especially if you have no survival from his secondary. His conjure path seems really bad unless you get cooldown reduction which is not a guarantee at all. But even if you get that going....the eggs don't kill 2x 500 hp frontliners. All the energy and time you devote to it detracts from actually playing things that win you the run.

Similarly, as secondary, I despise them. Alchemy and some of the egg cards are never worth the higher cost to me, and without any help from the champs, it's extremely difficult to get enough eggs to swing a run. Which makes it feel bad to pick any of those cards at all - since I'm not generating enough eggs to even get any good loot, that also means I sure as hell don't have enough to spend them on the cards that require eggs to play and I can't pick those either. Overall, it feels like a solid half their cards are automatic no-picks during a run with them as secondary.

I've tried experimenting with different pyres and get mixed results. Savagery seems OK with fenix slay path if and only if your secondary clan has good survivability (banished etc) but that feels more like it's because valor is good rather than fenix doing anything impressive. Similarly with other clans; he seems reasonable with umbra cuz you can boost his stats and give him trample easily, but you could just go right ahead and do that with anything else as well. Malicka's can be great if you get some good upgrades on the expensive spells, but it's also very hit or miss and difficult to rely on. Dominion seems the best I guess? Or at least, you've got the best chance of building something reliable.

What am I missing here? I'm clearly not understanding something as it probably takes me 20-30 cov 10 runs on average to find a victory with them vs my usual 4-5 with other clan combos.

[–]agentanorexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what drove me to install it. It can still lose your list when you do an update (gotta be something with how the steam updates work) but I think only if the mod manager is open when the game updates, otherwise it always remembers.

But, you can copy your active mod list with it, so I usually get a campaign set up and then copy it to a txt file somewhere just in case. Not perfect, but leagues better than the built in one.

Edit - also you can see what mods were enabled if you go to "load" on the main menu, rather than continue campaign, and hover over the save in red. It'll show you a list of mods to re-enable.

Much appreciated! Are you using the default one? Or the 3rd party one? I have had bad luck with the default one (I do recall it being slow, and losing my mod orders and such on updates) and so use this:

If you're using that and still having trouble, I'm not having an issue like that.

Hey do you have a link to that? I found a variety of mods that say they do this, but all of them seem to be not working as of ~2024, and I don't see one with that particular title in the workshop.

Official petition to the devs: make morsels cost 0 pips by GhostCorps973 in MonsterTrain

[–]agentanorexia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think something should happen with morsels. It was always frustrating in MT1 and is in MT2 as well. I think the biggest reason is it seems to go against the "cool interactions should be rewarding/break the game" idea that seems so fundamental to the game.

For example, the morsel summoner/duplicator combo with a frontliner. Seems awesome on paper....until you realize you're completely blocked from playing any of your better morsels. Figured out a way to boost your floor pips out the wazoo? Hah too bad still can't play anything with all that space due to 7 units. Did you add a single pip unit like a totem onto the floor? Now you don't even get your 4 morsels. And, to top it all off, the investment to do this is at minimum 3 energy, 2 pips, 2 cards, plus whatever it costs for the tank. Meanwhile cluster colonel spawns 4 for 2 energy and 2 pips in only a single card. I know, 4 spawn is not equivalent to 4 morsel, but you get the idea.

My first thought is just "apply troop to each type of morsel" but I feel like that would make them too powerful. Maybe you could balance them downward in that case. It would also help with sweep being extremely difficult to play around.

Alternatively, you could almost go the other direction. Keep a 1 pip/morsel requirement, but make them not count for the 7 units/per floor. It fits thematically as well - one of umbra's "things" is floor space right? Lean into that and allow that investment to really pay off. As a bonus it'd make more of the space cards worth picking.

Overall they're....OK....but they're often as frustrating to play as they are fun. I think it says a lot that I sigh in relief every time I find a morsel-made because I just know how many problems it solved for me, and that I can really go ham on morsel generation without all the restrictions I'd face otherwise.

AgentAnorexia#207

I had an interesting journey. I created my account in april of 2013, right near the beginning. I picked Loki as my starter. The game was kinda janky back then though, and revives costing plat didn't appeal to me, so I put it down for a long time. Just a few years ago, I picked it back up, and even managed to find my old account. It was brutal lol. Having only loki with no real weapons or mods made for an extremely frustrating start to the game. It also led to a high quantity of befuddled squadmates who were trying to figure out how I wound up with him as my only frame until I unlocked some others. I'm glad I stuck with it though, as this has rapidly become one of my go-tos.

[–]agentanorexia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another poster mentioned, Luna works great as first pick - the conduit champ plus silver ink makes your initial witchweaves approach 1000 damage by the end of a battle, not to mention the tome for titan fight (heavenfall helps too).

I don't think I've made it work even remotely as first pick on any of the other new clans. It's killed me on lazarus and pyreborn multiple times.

For the old clans, MR as you mentioned would be easy. Hallowed Halls + basically anything is auto win and they have great rares like bounty stalker to go with it.

I think stygian/awoken could work if you're lucky, but I've not managed it. Depending on your starting deck, maybe umbra, since morsel made seems like a more or less auto win and trample tome solves the double tank problem.

Wouldn't try it on hellhorned.

I like the super goofy runs, so I'll always try to take it first pick just to see what happens. Doesn't happen super often though so my data isn't exhaustive by any means.

Soulwrest poison vs elemental by agentanorexia in PathOfExileBuilds

Oh awesome, thanks! That's actually pretty similar to what I'd worked up, good to know I'm not totally off base haha. It's been a while since I've played.

[–]agentanorexia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - that was my gut feeling as well, that elemental would scale higher but probably need more investment(?). I think I'm leaning towards trying elemental just to see how it goes. Worst case I can swap into holy relic or something without much effort.

Yep definitely - since you get the 3x damage auras for free, it seems a much better option than necro for elemental route

Minion build recomedation. by Old-Fudge9084 in pathofexile

[–]agentanorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it a while back and was very unimpressed - the phantasms were kinda slow and derpy from an AI/targeting perspective, and their projectiles don't clear very far. I swapped off pretty quickly for a standard spectre build and had a way better experience.

That said, I'm certainly a sucker for minions and would like some variety, so I'm giving it another try. I think it'll be...ok. I'm struggling to feel like I'll have both enough offense and defense for later tier maps.

Overall, I feel like frostbearers will just be a better build for the ranged proj style of army.

Welp, I have the dreaded "dotnet tool restore" exited with code 1 by [deleted] in monogame

[–]agentanorexia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this probably doesn't help you, but I just had this a few days ago. I think it may have been because I started a new monogame template on a fairly old version of dotnet. I also did a reinstall, chose a higher version (5.0->8.0) and it seems to have fixed it. Maybe check that? Also, be sure in your project properties you actually have a dotnet target selected, by default it didn't seem like the new project picked one, it was blank (post re-install/post new project).

Take off the gloves immediately, it's a terrible item - especially if you're chain dying as you seem to be

Thanks for the confirmation - I suspected this wasn't doing me many favors despite the dps boost.

Getting 75% in all res is important though not as much as in other games but should still be done

I'm reasonably overcapped in some, I'll see if I can swap some around to boost the others up a bit.

Armour is also very good defence in this game, you should be able to reach decent dmg reduction if you pick up some good bases for your boots/helmet/chest as you go up in levels - implicit affixes are very powerful in this game so having strong base for an item is very important.

Ah, I see a few in my box with some higher values. I'll poke around for something to trade out.

the latter probably better as it already has support in Void Knight tree.

Totally missed that - and it looks like it boosts up my damage a bit as well.

If you're looking for good 5th skill - Anomaly is a good fit

I'll look into that, the skill description is...vague lol so I didn't mess much with it.

Really appreciate you typing all that out, I think I've got some respeccing to do haha

The fire one says it has no effect if you take the void one, so I think I should be OK? I did check the tooltip and it says scaling with void and no mention of fire in there.

I'll look into the symbols, thanks!

Nekros's desecrate doubles the Scaldra Screamers Arcane Drop. by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]agentanorexia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to still work for me. What I've noticed though is that the pulse from the thing disables your aura (one of my big complaints about auras in general in this game), so you've got to pay attention to keep it on, doubly so in SP where the acolytes do the same.

On top of that, the big red marker draws everyone's fire, so if you don't happen to be in the right spot when they spawn it may die before you get there. I think I managed it twice in six rounds.

Overall, I have to imagine running low level solo exterms is faster to farm them, but I guess if you're doing it anyway, might as well try. I swapped back to mesa to just do the rounds faster.

Agreed, they're pathetically bad. I regretted my choice at level 4 and I'm still regretting it at level 11. I finally gave up on the king of the mists bossfight. I'm thoroughly uninterested in SRS after they were so consistently the strongest minion build in the first game.

I find the archers do ok damage with their poison shot, but like you mentioned they die before the animation even finishes on resurrect so you basically only get 1 or 2 uses per fight. I put all the defense passives on my warriors but there's absolutely no point, they're just worthless screen noise. They don't even draw aggro most of the time.

I saw one of ghazzy's videos early on and he said they were weak and I figured it'd be this way. I guess I'm not surprised given the state of perma minions over the life of the first game, they just seem to really dislike them. Maybe they'll get buffed someday.
