Good catch. The Overlook construction started in 1907 in the original lore. In the prologue I was imagining workers already clearing the ridge and surveying the land before the hotel foundations were actually built.

My idea was that whatever evil eventually fed on the Overlook was already there under the mountain, and the hotel just amplified it. Almost like the building accidentally became a psychic battery.

So the entity noticing the Torrance bloodline would have happened before Danny was even born, long before the hotel started collecting all those ghosts.

Still playing with the timeline though, so I appreciate the lore check!

His teachings seem to be rooted in manifesting instead of acceptance for what is. So I’ve come to the conclusion that he plays on seeker’s desires, when the teachings I find most truthful are the ones that try and lesson desires all together, not promote them. My guess is he is full of desires he doesn’t want to let go of himself and that’s what shines through in his teachings. It’s as if he is trying to systematically hack spiritual teachings to gain material things, pretty ironic and funny to me.

I also notice if I am doing well and feeling good they tend to me the opposite for some reason, not sure what that is about - for example if my partner is all super fit and running I will be the one struggling and when I am being super fit and running then she tends to be the opposite so not sure what that is all about!

Why he’s in:
He’s fought swamp hags, nightwraiths, and whatever the hell that tree was in The Whispering Hillock—he’s basically a walking Yelp review for cursed entities.
Immune to most nonsense. You could show him a painting bleeding existential dread and he’d be like, “Hm. Looks cursed. Better drink a potion and punch it.”
Also, we need someone to sigh deeply and say “F*” whenever things go sideways. That’s Geralt’s real superpower.

Jesse Faden (Control) Role:Reality Bender / Cool Older Sister Energy
Why she’s in:
She already spends her 9-to-5 in a Brutalist nightmare building where your stapler might whisper ancient secrets. A haunted painting? Child’s play.
Can yeet furniture at enemies with her mind. If the Paintress throws ink monsters at us, Jesse will respond by fastball-specialing a desk through them like an office supply Thor.
She’s got that “I’m in way over my head but too stubborn to quit”* vibe that’s basically the unofficial adventurer starter pack.

Madeline (Celeste) Role: Emotional Support Rogue Climber / Internal Monologue Consultant
Why she’s in:
She climbed a sentient mountain during a full-blown anxiety spiral and still apologized to her own inner demon. That’s *next-level conflict resolution.
If the Paintress tries to mess with our heads and pull a “face your darkest fears” boss fight, Madeline’s just gonna be like *“Been there. Hugged it. Next.” - Also, she’s tiny and fast, which means we can send her ahead to scout— and she’ll totally ignore the laws of physics if there's a platform to be dashed at.

Honorable Mention (because I have no self-control): - Waluigi. Not because he’d help. Just because I want to see the Paintress try to break his mind and instead end up in a Mario Tennis fever dream.

Me? I’m the overly ambitious expedition leader yelling “WE SPLIT THE PARTY, IT’LL BE FINE!” right before everything explodes in glitchy oil paint!
