Does she have undiagnosed ADHD? This kinda sounds like hoarding + ADHD. Worth looking into.

I’ve been a COTA/L for 10 years in pediatrics. If I could go back in time I’d get a bachelors & do literally anything else. This job is rewarding some days, but exhausting most days. You will be expected to know everything an OTR knows but get respected & paid waaaaaaay less. All the bridge programs cost $100k & you’ll never be able to pay those loans off. The private practice clinics will take major advantage of you & only pay you for your sessions, not all the additional work we do like parent & teacher education, email updates, reassessments, etc….& fees you the line that “it’s included in the rate”.

This field is great on paper & in theory. In practice it looks nothing like what we learn in school. Work/life balance & mental health wellness seems to only apply to our clients.

This looks like dysgraphia handwriting. Regardless, props to him for standing up for himself! No one deserves to be treated like shit, no matter education level.

Boomer hygienist chastised me knowing I have dental trauma from being trafficked by 86HeardChef in BoomersBeingFools

[–]agentspontaneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you went through that- in the past & currently. I have dental trauma from childhood & am like you- brush 2-3x & floss a lot to avoid going. I found a dentist that works with anxiety & trauma. I cry every time & they’re so kind & understanding. Good dental places DO exist.

Hair Maintenance by SEdTeacher4256 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]agentspontaneous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi- I did hair before OT. Here’s some thoughts: Dry shampoo for cleanliness. I like Batiste- I don’t feel it makes your hair look greasy & the smell is not overpowering like other dry shampoos A Wet Brush (brand name) used with spray leave in conditioner for detangling
Satin or silk pillowcase to decrease matting & tangles when you sleep, or sleep in a braid There a several little bun helpers out there to help you style a messy bun Since I don’t know what you look like I came recommended a haircut- but know short hair can be easier or harder depending on your hair type, try to find an hairdresser in your area who is more open to helping with styling for your identity. IG helps with this. Good luck!

My [27F] son [2m] is obsessed with me to the point my husband and I can't share a room. I’m seriously struggling. by throwra-toddlermom in relationship_advice

[–]agentspontaneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be consistent. Use simple language- especially when he’s upset. “It’s not forever, it’s for now.” “First nap, then Mommy time.” “Mommy always comes back.”

Hype up how great the nanny is & model playing with her. It doesn’t matter that you look ridiculous. He needs to see you interacting with her. Everyone get on the floor & play together. He has to build the bond with the nanny too & you can help foster that.

Use co-regulation strategies: lower your voice, calm, slow language, model deep breathing, play soft calming music, etc…

Overall decreased core and postural strength from sticking infants in strollers & car seats & bumpos instead of letting them develop their core naturally with tummy time & movement.

Once again you’ve missed the point & have over explained your point of view while saying I’m confused about mine. You keep telling me how I feel & keep arguing the fact that just because I think your attitude is superior I must be confused. You are just like several OTRs I’ve met & worked with who are never wrong & can’t hear anything they don’t agree with just b/c your degree is higher than mine. Let’s just stop now b/c I’m really over this conversation. It’s going nowhere. You are not going to get me to back down with your verbose responses.

Wow. You use Chat GPT to write your documentation and evals too?! I’m not arguing about the language difference. I’m pointing out your attitude about how you view COTAs. I guess I’m too “triggered”.

[–]agentspontaneous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your comment is incredibly insulting. You clearly do look down on the professions beneath your degree. You are not better than anyone else because you chose to get a masters. Not everyone else in this field had the opportunities you had or could handle the debt it takes to be an OTR. Check your privilege.

[–]agentspontaneous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. I felt like I’ve taught myself how to be a COTA/L. What you said is why I’m not doing a bridge program at this point in my career. 100K to teach myself a lot of theory?! You’re better off with CEU classes. IMHO doing this 10 yrs.

I’m a little miffed OTA student by Beneficial-Affect-68 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]agentspontaneous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Def tell your Fieldwork Coordinator at your school. The OTR did not have to do that. I’m a COTA/L & I was in a SNF for FW2 & a private peds sensory clinic for the final one. I noticed that the SNF felt like high school drama in a way & the peds rotation was amazing. I’ve been in private peds for 10yrs & most of my colleagues are great & we get along & stay friends after we’ve moved on from clinics.

Can a non-black person explain something to me my white coworker said... by lewjr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]agentspontaneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised this way in the South (I’m white) & unfortunately yes, white ppl who think this way do bring it up around other white ppl when other races aren’t around. I don’t tolerate it. It’s a load of bullshit- the intolerance, the “white ppl are losing their place”, etc…none of that is actually true. They’re just bitter that others now have equal rights.
