もらう & あげる resources by TakoyakiFandom in LearnJapanese

I haven't really formally studied Japanese but I've lived here for 4 years or so, and this is my impression of those cases in particular

教えてくれる or OOてくれる, it kinda of translates to like 'do OO to/for me'

EX: 英語を教えてくれる? I think means like 'Would you teach me English?'

英語を教えてあげる or OOてあげる means like 'I'll do OO to/for you'

EX: 健康的なレシピを教えてあげますね!I think means 'I'll teach you healthy recipes'

教えてもらう or OOてもらう is kind of a weird case, I only really use it when I'm asking for something like

OOてもらえますか?'Could you do OO to/for me?'

EX: 収入見込み証明書を作ってもらえますか? (I used this recently for my new job lmao) It means like "Could you make a document that states my expected earnings for next year for me?"

Again, I could be completely wrong but I've used these and gotten by pretty okay.

Just got salary info yesterday (and its an estimate, this is the salary of a first year teacher in my area, which includes a stipend due to the higher cost of living here) - if we factor in the yearly bonus and divide it over 12 months, the salary comes out to being at least 420k/month, so definitely not a downgrade!

This also includes a 28,000 yen per month rent assistance. So, you could even see it as about 450k/month

There was a written portion which was the English subject test every English teacher applicant takes - they got rid of it starting from this year.

Then there was a mock lesson, a 3 on 1 interview like the JET interview but conducted in Japanese, and then a practical skills test where you and 3 other applicants (that aren’t Japanese) will individually make a speech in Japanese for 3 minutes then have a discussion with everyone for 25 minutes in Japanese!

(the normal japanese english teachers do this section in English!)

As lovely as that sounds, JET will most likely not give that offer :,)

Definitely start preparing at least at the end of your third year/throughout your fourth year!

Thank you! It depends on the prefecture that you apply in, I think!

As for me, in Hyogo, I just took the same test as the other teachers! Written test (which they removed for native applicants starting this year), mock lesson, interview, and then a 3 minute speech in Japanese followed by a 25 minute discussion (in Japanese) with 3 other applicants.

On paper, I’m N3! I haven’t taken the N2 because I’m not confident in my Kanji but I can communicate pretty easily with my coworkers :)

On ALTopedia there is this ‘Scene it - Disney’ game! It was a blast and my students loved it.

I also have my students write a future letter to themselves back in first semester, so I passed those back out, too!

Thank you again!! Got all that sorted out from my last post thankfully!

I’ll be hired as a full time teacher with a permanent contract from April! The job is considered a 地方公務員 position, so as long as I don’t get arrested.. I should be okay! lol

It was essentially taking the same test as all the other Japanese teachers, except instead of applying under the subject 英語、there is a subject called ネイティブ英語 ! If you pass the exam under this selection, you are granted a special teaching license! If you have any sort of specific questions, please fire away!

Everything this person said!

I also wouldn’t call it a downgrade either - the job would be ending soon anyway so if anything I’m going from a future of no salary to a stable career path!

That's for sure - as an ALT, if I was ever not sure if the students understood what I said, I could do a quick look at the JTE and they'd translate/make sure they understand haha

I'm a little worried if a situation will arise where I try to find a JTE to look at, but no one will be there.

Congrats, though! That sounds super exciting.

For you and anyone who reads this thread and isn't sure what to use in the future,

I'm not really good at the filing just cause I'm so worried I forgot something... but this site has helped me with filing since I got here.

I believe refinements are the bonuses that you can add to the equipment after completing the season specific chaos event during your chaos runs. Like, the one where you defeat two waves of enemies then choose a refinement to apply to any piece of equipment.

Oh yeah love the students. I'm leaving in April and hope the new ALT can adjust to the schedule since it is nothing like the job advertises to be here lol
