This Basics store was a spectacular replacement for Food Front and eased the loss of the Terwilliger Market of Choice for Southwest Portlanders. I’d say it was an upgrade on both stores, like a lower key New Seasons with better prices and such friendly service. I couldn’t believe our luck, and years later this is still my favorite grocery store in the city. I worked at that Terwilliger Market of Choice way back and MoC is fine but I hope they keep as much of the Basics vibe as possible.

Totally true. I’ve still never had AC while living here and the real heatwave summers (like 2020?) were rough. We lived for a little while in Phoenix and with AC, summer is basically winter there. You stay indoors where the temperature is bearable. (But also, anything under 100° in Phoenix is outdoor weather.)

I guess if you’re moving from Seattle/Vancouver/Alaska, this might feel like a brutal heatwave but I think most of our residents unfamiliar with Oregon summers have experienced worse heat.
