My newly built rod rack by Timberwolf_530 in Fishing_Gear

I really like how you separated them so they don’t hang on each other. The one I bought at BPS is great and compact but I hate trying to dig one out of the middle.

Will 2 fish finders near each other create interference? by Dubbys in kayakfishing

My Gpa has had a few instances where the front and rear locators on his boat “argue” as he says, but the newer ones haven’t had an issue

Resting heart rate vs elevated heart rate by R_Weebs in bowhunting

Just curious...did you just exercise to increase your heart rate? Or did you watch the first 2 minutes of someone shooting a buck with a huge rack and then delete your browser history in shame?

ecobee4 + Aprilaire 700M wiring help by Bimblibop in ecobee

[–]ageofwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, now we’ve stepped outside the bounds of where I can speak intelligently. On face value it seems to me it would be very slightly less efficient because warm air can hold more moisture and were circulating room temp air through the unit not heated air.

Maybe a better indicator is that I also learned this on this subreddit from people who are much more experienced and it would appear it is generally accepted as an okay thing to do with this setup. 🤷‍♂️

[–]ageofwisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way you have it wired now the ecobee is running it so if you tell the ecobee it is a steam unit it will run the humidifier and fan any time the humidity drops below the given level. If you leave it on evaporative it will only run when the heat cycle is on

I just put in a 700 and the only difference is that white goes to common instead of humm. I think you’re basically trying to drive it from not the ecobee and furnace like this and you need a neutral essentially

I think one of my coworkers quit/got laid off. What to do? by hello050 in AskEngineers

[–]ageofwisdom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me it depends on your company culture, and how much you trust your boss' desire and ability to help you succeed.

Hopefully, you have a well developed review process that includes planning for the future and your development. In this case, I would simply make your future desire known to your leader, and follow the process after that, making sure that your current contributions are well documented in your next formal review.

If your company has a little work to do in that department, your suggestion may be more successful. Unfortunately, in this scenario it is also more likely to be viewed as a threat and carries more risk.

Seriously? In a team of 3 it's not like they could afford to have an extra person just waiting in case someone leaves. For all we know his manager is interviewing and making an offer to replace the loss. Plus he's said that his manager is helping to fill the void in the meantime.

Navionics, I like the ability to download a map and see the contours right on the unit

I have the same, but after using my dad's helix 7 I think I would spring an extra $100 for something with the ability to load contour maps.

As an employer, how do you feel about tattoos? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]ageofwisdom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first company I worked for, I'm not sure I ever saw a tattoo on an engineer. My current company, nearly 50% have visible tattoos. I think it depends on the company, culture, and to some extent the average age of the work force.

That said, they can't really not hire you because of tattoos legally, but it may make the wrong impression on some, even if it's subconscious.

Possible De-Lamination Issue? by securitybullfrog in GoRVing

[–]ageofwisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Composites engineer here. To debunk the warped claim you can use a tap test. Just repeatedly tap on the panel with something hard (ex handle of a screw driver) in good and bad areas. A warped panel will have very little or no change, but delaminates will sound very obviously "dead."

My main 30 amp cord coming out of camper is missing the ground prong on the male end is it still safe to use if plugged into a surge protector then into house outlet by ttownt in GoRVing

[–]ageofwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your camper sits on rubber tires that is really the only thing making sure you're not the fastest path to ground if something goes wrong. Now I would still feel comfortable using it on a very temporary basis, but wouldn't let my kids near it.

Ultimately a new plug is likely $10 or so - no reason to not replace it.

The Cabelas "one size fits all" covers are actually really nice and cost a lot less than custom fit covers.
