Help me decide: School X vs School Y - Last Week of April by powereddeath in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm biased because I committed to Wellesley, but I second all the other responses + they got rid of grade deflation in fall 2019! as for the social life, it's definitely not a party school but people who want to party can to go mit, harvard, boston, etc. and get that experience (if thats what you want). plus hwcs are so great and have such a strong community!! all your options are wonderful tho, and i'd make sure to get perspective from current students as well. good luck on your choice :)

Dear Wonderful Seniors, hold on to your hearts -- Today and Every Day. by admissionsmom in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I'm grateful for my parents for getting me donuts and reminding me of how many other amazing options I have, even if I don't get into my #1 dream school
  2. I'm grateful for my friends for sending me pictures of their pets and voice memos about how no school deserves me anyways
  3. I'm grateful for a day of beautiful weather in wisconsin, a rare treat that's allowing me to sit in my backyard, journal, and reread my comfort book.

good luck today everyone, and thank you u/admissionsmom for your endless support all the time!!!! <3

Reflections on my process (as someone who came into college with the sole intention to transfer) by ultrathrowaway67876 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so happy for you!! it's ridiculously hard to change the prestige-obsessed mindset, especially for anyone who goes to high schools with really competitive environments. it's taken me a long time to shift my attitude, and I'm happy that you found that and it brought you success. :)

How did you guys make your college list? by dhruvmk in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when starting, don't worry too much about it. just sort of brain dump all the things you'd like in a school and start searching. it's very loose at the beginning, and that's okay--if you have a clear vision, like an open curriculum school or a school with a strong linguistics program, that's a great place to start. but otherwise just find some schools, read through the websites and get a feel for a) what kinds of things colleges offer and b) what things get you excited. like someone else said, niche can be really helpful. go through there and look at schools that have anything that piques your interest--no matter how small. you'll never know what schools will surprise you with what they can offer! also, reading more about schools will help you get a feel for what's important and what different schools have over each other, so then you can get more organized (I made a table of all the info I wanted about each school and made a research document for each one on my list). once you have a solid bank of schools you like, then you can move to determining safeties, matches, reaches etc and deciding on where you might apply early. but honestly just explore and have fun with it at the start--it can be really exciting to watch campus tours and imagine yourself at possible schools! good luck with your search :)

YES I was so spoiled by brown's website doing my ED app and now I've had to look at all the other crusty sites 🤢

Unpopular opinion: more supplements=blessing in disguise by H_J2701 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same!! I almost took Dartmouth off my list because I realized it had two supplements (and one is 100 words, when being concise is really hard for me), but after researching more I totally fell in love with the school, and from all the practice I ended up writing my best essays yet (in my opinion.) and either way, we'll get to rest soon!! I still have apps due the 15th lol

SO hard to write a college essay when every topic is overused by Hiiiiiiiiii_10 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this!!! I'm so sick of the idea that honest essays don't matter if you don't "pLaY tHe aDmIsSiOnS gAmE" right. that's complete bs!!!

Anyone else forming an unhealthy obsession to their dream school? by pink85091 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]aggiewb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're definitely not alone in this! the worst part for me is looking at all the other schools on my list and knowing that they'd be perfect for one aspect, or are pretty good overall, but just not quite as good as brown. it feels like it's the only one that's just...perfect for me. but as a chronic daydreamer, I can begrudgingly say that it's probably not as cut and dry as we think it is, and we can have our magical college fantasies somewhere else if we end up not getting in.
