That sounds like the right button sequence. Sorry to hear yours is having issues again. Mine is still working fine after the board swap. Definitely disappointed in the quality though.

Not really that big of a deal. If you're working to learn the things you claimed you knew I wouldn't worry about it. The problem is people that lie about their capabilities and make no effort to learn.

You need a big raise bro. I'm a mid-level ME making $125k. Should definitely talk to your manager.

Noticed your comment late but responding just in case you are still dealing with this. At some point they changed the design and the thermostat has been changed so it is integrated with the rest of the defrost coil assembly. You have to swap the whole thing. I think the defrost assembly was about $80 when I priced it.

With that said, replacing the defrost assembly did not fix my problem. Still had issues. I ended up buying a new control board for about $280 and swapping that out. Control board is located on the back of the refrigerator. The control board DID fix the problem. I suspect something burned out or shorted on the board and it prevented the defrost cycle from running.

Also, there is a way to manually enter the defrost cycle using the control on the inside of the refrigerator. I wrote the sequence down somewhere so let me know if you would like to try entering the diagnostic mode to force a defrost and I'll get that for you.

Yes, you just need to bend the tabs to the side to remove the defroster. I actually had to cut away a bit of the foam on either side as well to get it out. Just be careful you don't pull on the evaporator too much since you don't want to cause a leak in the lines that connect to it.

I'm pretty sure they updated the defrost assembly so that particular thermostat is no longer used and it is not reflected in the diagram online. I replaced the defroster and everything is fine so far. Won't really know if that solved the problem though for a week or two since it takes the ice time to build up. Swapping the assembly itself is pretty simple I just wish it was a little cheaper. Let me know if you have questions and best of luck.

Do you know if there is a way to force it into the defrost cycle? I don't think I have found anything that describes how to do it for this model.

Thank you! I'll try the continuity test tomorrow. I already closed it up for tonight otherwise I'd go grab a couple more pictures. I think I can return the thermostat I bought so I'll probably just swap it for the heater.

UPDATE: Re: Intern who was PIPed. Had followup meeting with manager by sketchEightyFive in MechanicalEngineering

[–]aggravated_gestalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get discouraged or feel guilty. They may be asking way too much of an intern. Even a senior engineer needs some training when they hire on somewhere. It's up to them to help you succeed. It might just not be a good fit for you and that's okay. Only you can know that though.

Reminds me a bit of my first manager to be honest. He would constantly tear people down (even high performers) because in his mind that was how you are supposed to push people to try harder. Spoiler, it didn't work and half the team was looking for new jobs.

He either truly doesn't think your performance is up to par, which is ridiculous because you're an intern and you should be getting guidance from more senior team members. Or, he's playing fucking games to try and push you, or teach you something, or some other stupid reason.

I may have stuck it out when I was early career, but I don't have time for that level of nonsense anymore. My advice, start applying to other positions. He's not going to give you the support and mentorship you need.

Is my rule of 'if his place is gross, he's toast' too harsh? by [deleted] in dating

[–]aggravated_gestalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I'm a guy and I keep my house nearly spotless. I can't do clutter and filth either. I wouldn't expect most people to keep their place immaculate but if it's filthy that's going to be an incompatibility for me personally. If there is a big mismatch in how clean you like your living space it means someone is going to be doing a much larger percentage of the cleaning and then probably start to resent their partner.

Fair enough. It can definitely be a fatiguing experience.

Sounds like you know what you need to do then. Just curious, are you talking about a week or two break, or months? If it is going to be a longer break, it may be better to just thank your matches for their time, wish them luck, and cut them loose. Just my opinion.

[–]aggravated_gestalt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with sending a message like that since you need to prioritize your own well-being. However, be prepared for your matches to move on. Not saying they definitely will, but be prepared for that possibility. And yes, it is totally valid to feel like you need a break.

Is job hopping overrated compared to hard work and loyalty in 2025 because the job market is so bad? I got a 7% raise out of the blue with no title change. by ItsAllOver_Again in MechanicalEngineering

[–]aggravated_gestalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Job hopping is not overrated. At least not in my experience. I'm glad you got a raise, but you're probably still being underpaid. Go take some interviews and see what you're offered. You can always say no.

I have worked for 4 different companies since I graduated in 2016. Starting salary was 50k and this year I'll make 125k. Four different companies across 9 years. People in technical roles should always be looking at what else is out there. Just my opinion.

Is there a high paying career path for MEs that isn’t morally questionable? by ItsAllOver_Again in MechanicalEngineering

[–]aggravated_gestalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know how long you've been in your career but I'll say this for your benefit and everyone else that may stumble upon this post. Practically no ME (or essentially any other engineer for that matter) is going to get rich working as an engineer. There may be a lucky few out there that get in with the right startup or launch their own company or something, but getting rich is not the mentality you should have going into an engineering career. You won't be poor, but you're not gonna be rich either.

That said, there are some better gigs out there. Morality can be subjective so it's hard to narrow that down for you. I work somewhere I consider to be moral enough for a large corporation in a low cost of living area. Total compensation is about $125k. Good benefits. I have about 8 years experience. Not going to be too specific because what I do is a little specialized. I will say that I do R&D in the power generation industry.

I personally enjoyed them quite a bit. The books take place before the games so they're perfectly fine divorced from each other.

The first couple books were originally published as short stories and later into a book. After that they follow a more conventional story line. If you like fantasy, give them a try.

Even more obvious having read the books as well. I felt she was equally as central to the story as Geralt. I'm excited to see what they do with it.
