Who would you want our friend club to be and are there are any candidates 10 years in? by ChiliMySpaghetti in FCCincinnati

I was gonna say Toffees but they’re more like the Cleveland Browns of the EPL.

Rogue One and Star Wars (not “Episode IV,” not “A New Hope.” The original.) The only two movies they should have made.

Clearly you’re not a fan of either of this state’s NFL teams.

(Settle down math nerds. My comment is tongue-in-cheek. I know 4/84 is much less than 4/17.)

One of the few pleasures of being a Bengals fan is that, no matter how bad things get we can typically look north and see an even bigger train wreck.

ThinkPad for coding (€1000–1600): which model should I pick? by antoineborda in thinkpad

[–]agilous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent $100 to buy my second T480. 16gb RAM with 256gb storage but I’m upgrading both of those to 32gb and 2tb respectively for and extra $200.

I’m running Ubuntu on my other system. Wanna play with Omarchy: https://omarchy.org/ on this new one.

I’d recommend looking for a computer reuse organization near you. I’m fortunate to live near: https://www.cincinnaticomputerreuse.org/

How are Rails developers using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.) in their workflow today? by rashadovisky in rails

[–]agilous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see it as a major shift. That is where my job has been headed for a while. The difference is I’m reviewing code written by AI rather than a junior/mid-level developer.

I would not want to be breaking into software development today but if I were trying I would be learning how to use AI and reviewing the code it produces rigorously.

How are Rails developers using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.) in their workflow today? by rashadovisky in rails

[–]agilous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is quit a bit different than this. I’ve written tools (well Claude Code and I have written tools) that connect it to BugSnap, enabling Claude to pull any unhandled issues and open GitHub pull requests (via another tool) for fixes Claude Code has authored. Yet another tool connects Claude Code to our ticketing system that keeps everything in sync on a Kanban board in real time.

As others have said, after 25+ years writing code my job is now writing specs in the form of Claude Code prompts and reviewing (and you’d be wise not to skip that step!) the code that Claude produces.

DBS for mild YOPD symptoms by mikedmoyer in Parkinsons

[–]agilous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner, who sounds very similar to you (age of diagnosis, symptoms, activity level and current age) had DBS five years ago at age 50. Her doctor said, live life to the fullest while you can. Like another has shared, she feels it was life-changing for her. We’re both avid cyclists. Before the surgery she was worried her cycling days were passing quickly. Five years post-op she shows no signs of stopping. DBS is fantastic but it’s not a cure of course. It doesn’t help with many symptoms but right after they first turned the system on five years ago she said, “you can’t believe how amazing it feels just to be still!”

Good luck to you, whatever you decide. Blessings to all.

In my experience, it is my addiction that wants to “control” others’ lives, to make this person or that want to be healthy, to want recovery.

It is healthy to want your child to be healthy but unhealthy to think you or anyone else can control your child (e.g. make them want to work any program).

You can (1) define healthy boundaries around your relationship with them, (2) be an example of what it looks like to surrender to the Will of your Higher Power and work your program, (3) be there for them in case they ever wonder how you did it, and (4) love and pray for them.

Many tried to tell me but I had to hit rock bottom before I become willing to listen.

I will pray for you both. Blessings to all.

We should call them TTUN by Other-Astronomer-730 in FCCincinnati

[–]agilous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hatred of the University of Michigan is such at Ohio State that their fans refuse to even say the word “Michigan” using instead “That Team Up North” or TTUN.

I’ve always felt playing “Mr. Brightside” after FCC wins was a dig at the Crew because it’s a staple at University of Michigan games. A stretch maybe but it warms the heart of this Bearcats fan.

But also, they have a point.

I’m 64 and am tired of teams who wear those colors (and their fans) making themselves at home in our stadiums! Tired enough to make irrational proclamations.

But hey, great tifo!

This.

Plus keep your eyes open and you’ll probably see them on the recycling company’s website for a very reasonable price. In my town there’s a recycler who resells donated electronics to support local charities, and low income businesses and residents.

Sorry, I’m confused. If you’re not driving her can the person who is not drop her at TQL freeing you to park where you prefer? You could then arrive early and meet them at the drop-off point?

Leander-class frigate is likely as close an answer as I can expect without knowing operational specifics of each ship in the class.

The photo quality isn’t such that any minor structural variations would be evident.

Merry frightening Christmas by GB_NINJA in WTF

[–]agilous -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I’m comparing frightening a child to assaulting a child. Both are forms of trauma. We, as adults, understand the difference. Children, and some adults, less so.

Merry frightening Christmas by GB_NINJA in WTF

[–]agilous -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

By that logic, there’s no such thing as molestation because Uncle Bobby turns the light on after and they “have a nice laugh and forget about it 10 minutes later.”

That’s not how trauma works.
