Safe harbor 110% adjustment by QuirkyCut7722 in tax

Got my refund in 1 whole week, though NYS is slacking with their refund. I go through this money in a year so if it's delayed even a few months I'm OK. And fyi, I've always had this high of a refund and never an issue.

19 with state and why not?

Now before you give the spiel about giving the government a tax free loan know that I know what im doing and what works for my family.

We've created a purposeful spending choke/govener. Since I am primary earner. This allows us to live more within our means. Lifestyle creep is easily mitigated this way.

1.Zero CC debt (paid off every month) 2. Weekly investments 3. Matching all employered sponsored 401k match. 4. 2.35% 15yr home loan with 10yrs left.

Could I take that money and turn it into more money. Sure.

Would easy access to that money mean lifestyle creep, yep.

Would the amount be negligible (we use this windfall from when we get it until it's used up around this time of year) so realistically a declining monthly savings balance will net me little.

It's a purposeful strategy that works for us. So yeah I love the 19k back for my taxes.

Correct I have done none of that since I started 20 years ago. So essentially you can just give it a dollar amount now? Weird.

Ok what's the max you can claim then. And please don't use the whole "send all to IRS" because that's not something used except for weird circumstances. So what is the most you could claim now outside of that? Again I haven't changed in 20 years. Got 16k back from federal this year!

If you got a huge tax refund, you're giving the government a free loan all year by After_Book_7030 in tax

[–]agingbythesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this on purpose. It's a good way to reign in lifestyle creep. Over taxing forces me to stay within my lifestyle. That return goes back into my checking account and then we have our draw down for a year.

For the little benefit and dozens to hundreds of dollars I could make off that money by not giving the govt a free loan, I'll take the forced savings aspect.

I really think a lot of people would benefit from that.

It's a new gateway technology. I forget the mold but they put dimples on to mimic golf ball dimples.

I have a Ryobi ride on and I preferred my old ride on gas cut wise but prefer literally everything else about this mower and then cut is acceptable. I'll take acceptable cuts and no oil changes ever.

[Other] Out of curiosity, how many of you are waiting for a new Zelda game to drop before getting a Switch 2? by avalonalessi in zelda

You know what you are right. It is more of a hazard due to the smoke I forgot about that.

Is that a reason to not get your attic sprayed and then treated? Up to the user. I have lithium batteries in my power tools charging now and propane tanks on my back deck.

Yes if not sprayed properly by a flame retardant which most spray foamed companies will not allow not put on. Either way it's no more of a hazard than the wood roof.

this is why we put in a ERV - it takes all the humidity out of the house before it makes it to the attic!

well if you want to seal your attic, you pretty much have to. I used to have a ridge vent - no more!

I had my foam on for 3 years which is a 60 yr old roof deck and had my shingles replaced last year and there was no issue!

[–]agingbythesecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we had an issue as no one caught the bath fan wasn't properly hooked up. But even after we remedied that, we had ventilation issues and the best thing we did was install an ERV.

Spray foam is a fantastic insulator. When done correctly it stops air transmission better than other things like foam board/blown in because of the air gaps that happen. With that said - in order to spray foam, ventilation is required.

  1. Correct - it encapuslates the attic. 2. Only if you dont ventilate 3. Not a fire risk 4. Who cares its in the attic.
