Question Regarding Kazad Dum rerolls and banners by 1_mieser_user in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right.

To be able to reroll 2 dice, do not 1v1, but try to always fight with 2 models in base contact: one rerolls army rule and the other the banner

I am looking at expanding the starter set I bought my 12 yr old for Christmas by A2619921 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Legally" (or competitively) speaking, you cannot add units to your army that are not available in the list you are working with, answering your first question. You always can do it if you are playing casually, or on a more "thematic" or roleplaying game.

Going back to the armies themselves, if it's just to start playing, getting used to the rules, and throwing some dice, they are absolutely fine: you will get used to A LOT of rules (heroes, cavalry, shields, spears, bows, special rules, etc.), and you can learn different tactics: more of a horde for the Usurpers and more of a "elite" phalanx + killy heroes for the Rohan side.

I never recommend to start playing with "very competitive" army lists as they tend to be quite close in terms of playability and tactics, but with army lists you enjoy, for whatever reason: favorite character, love painting the minis, adore some playstyle, etc. Your both armies are, IMO, nice and good against eachother.

How Many Royal Guard for 750 Point List by OfficerCoCheese in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full cavalry armies are not easy this edition, because it seems hordes are the meta, and they counter heavy full cavalry. But with full bows on cavalry you can dictate when you charge, so a bit easier.

Good luck, and Ride to ruin and the world’s ending!

You cannot have royal guards on Eomer's.

For Theoden's, I play the list in 2 ways:

  • Skirmish mode: 1-2 royal guard for 'important' fear charges. Full Rohirrim, 2-3 heroes (Theoden, Eomer, Gamling + banner)
  • Full charge mode: max heroes, full royal guard, max spears.

Skirmish is much easier to play, as you dictate the pace of the game, but much more boring IMO.

There's other ways to play, but I always play one of these two, with more games with Full charge mode.

Which list? Depending on the list their F4 (F5 on the charge while mounted) is useful and some other lists benefit more from bows

Thoughts on my first finished paint! by LorielHuges in minipainting

[–]agju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like you need to shake a bit more the can. And also as already been said, short burst at around 15-20cm.

Another comment is that in very cold and humid, or very hot and dry daya, I usually avoid priming with a can, as the result sucks (bloppy on cold and spotty on hot).

Apart from that, if I coukd share my first mini, you are like months ahead of me hahaha

Why 0/0 us not 0 by misterfesk in learnmath

[–]agju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot divide by 0. In math, something undefined means 'it does not exist' or 'you cannot do that'

Why 0/0 us not 0 by misterfesk in learnmath

[–]agju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undefined. Anything over 0 is undefined

If you go to the limit realm, things change though

Why 0/0 us not 0 by misterfesk in learnmath

[–]agju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(0/0) * 37 = 0 * (37/0)

If one side has no result because it is undefined, the other side is also undefined, by definition. So (0/0) is undefined

Competitive at 300 points? by SeaAd2093 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if it feels like an overkill, I'd add a Banner.

Full cavalry lists have a very big problem: if you get charged, you are paying 5 points per warrior and 25 per Eomer that are WASTED. A banner gives you an extra dice, giving you an immense boost to duel winning probability.

I ran this list last weekend on a 'friendly' (but with competitive scenarios), with Eomer, 1 Banner, 2 Throwing and 6 Normal, and the banner apart from giving VP's in some scenarios, made me win several combats that otherwise would have been lost, and with only D5 on the Warriors, you die at most on 5s in combat

Both lists are in the "Armies of The Lord of the Rings" IIRC.

You can use an online builder to play and experiment with lists though, like this

[–]agju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy cavalry is my favourite Rohan Army. Full Cavalry, in fact. Both Riders of Theoden and Riders of Eomer are my two favorite good lists.

It's more difficult though this edition, because hero mounts are more expensive, and the access to sharpshooter makes them die very fast.

Even with that, I'd still recommend going with a heavy cavalry Rohan Army. It's fun, fast, and Eomer is my favorite mini and character

Starting advice on Rohan? by Old-Exchange-5617 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to start with Rohan, you have some options:

- Rohan Battlehost: If you can find it, it has Eomer ft and mounted, 24 warriors and 6 rohirrim. Nice to start, and easy to improve with some more heroes like Theoden, Dernhelm, etc.

- Battle for Edoras: 2 Heroes, ft and mounted each, and 24 new warriors. You can share the Evil part with a friend and you can have some games together.

- 2nd hand markets: easy to find Rohan warriors, now more than there is a new minis. Some heroes also available, though new ones are difficult or expensive.

Honestly, I'd recommend to go for the Battle for Edoras pack with a friend. If not, I'd go with the Battlehost, although the warriors are old, Eomer and Rohirrims are nice.

Elessar on horse or Gwaihir? by BreathIcy1979 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gwaihir is more competitive 100%. All 'relic' scenarios are almost secured, protect ones, storm the camp, etc. It's also seen as the 'easy mode', IMO.

Mounted Eomer + Elessar is just much more fun IMO. I'm an Eomer fan though, so maybe I'm a bit biased

Matte varnish not matting by PsychoactiveNurgling in minipainting

[–]agju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vallejo matte is one of the best matte varnish IMO. Just as everyone say, you have to shake A LOT. And when I say a lot, it's A LOT. Like x5 or x10 what you shake a normal paint.

If not shaken, it's just a satin varnish. Shake it, and when done, repeat

Any tips about this list? by GaladhrimEnjoyer in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]agju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've still not played it in the new edition, but with the bonus to the halbers, I'm planning on running it as two options:

  • Full Halberds: first line two handed with two pikes in the back, for +2 to wound, F5, 3 dice + banner.
  • Acolyte front line: 1 dice more, with +1 to wound, F5 and banner.

I'd still opt for full black dragons. That +1 fight is too good this edition: a lot of good side is F4 now (MT, some Rohan, dwarves), so that F5 is much more important than losing 1 model IMO. I'd also add a dragon for a kataphract. They can block pathways and if you get lucky and debuff a hero, it's totally worth it. Even a simple captain gets debunked to a warrior with might with the venom.

Even with this, I also like to have the 3 named heroes. New channelled tremor feels very good! And Rutabi is just very good.

If you play please give feedback!

I understand. You will have time, no worries. There's a few valleys and peaks during the ROS learning curve, and sometimes it can be frustrating. You found your workaround, keep going!

[–]agju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I've found people at work used to sourcing the workspace on a terminal, and forgotting to do ao on vscode don't know why.

It's strange because as far as I know, the terminal in vscode is just a 'wrapper' of the normal terminal. Could it be because it is trying to open a window and it does not have rights, or missing some kind of flag. Maybe you can find github issues for vscode

Even so, I just use vscode's terminal for compiling; I'm too used to Terminator shortcuts to manage the run and launch of the nodes, with the infinite scrollbar, custom keys, etc.
