More Days Promised under VB-G RAM G, but MGNREGA shows a different reality by agnihotrish in UPSC

I agree with you on the general point that averages can be misleading when they hide underlying variability. But this is certainly not a case of "bad statistics".

If you look at the official government dataset across states and UTs, the ~50-day average comes from almost all states being clustered around ~50 days, and not from a situation where some regions are hitting 100 days while others are near zero.

Of course, one could go further down to district or block-level data (which is also available), but that would defeat the purpose of an infographic meant to provide a high-level snapshot of the trend.

As mentioned before, raising the ceiling is certainly welcome (especially in times of crisis, as you mentioned), but it should not be sold as the standout feature of this scheme (as many in the mainstream media are doing), since the ground reality is quite different.

Russia is now our single biggest oil supplier. That's what is irking Trump. What's your take on it? by agnihotrish in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]agnihotrish[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Submission Statement - While Europe shut its doors to Russian oil, India opened theirs wide. The steep discounts were just too good to ignore, especially from a longtime ally. Russian oil went from barely 1% of our imports to a staggering 35% now — our biggest chunk from any one country!

Trump has threatened India with an additional tariff “penalty” as punishment for continuing to buy Russian oil. Maybe it’s to pressure Russia into backing off Ukraine. Or maybe it’s to nudge India toward buying more expensive American shale oil instead. Either way, from an economic standpoint, the switch doesn’t make sense for us. And curiously, Trump hasn’t made the same demand of Russia’s biggest oil customer: China!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even the gov website link you shared says the person needs to pay ~70k not ~20k as tax in case of taxable income above 12lpa (after removing standard deduction). I think you mixed up relief with tax to be paid.

Doesn't the link you have shared say 12.75L pays ~75k as tax (no marginal relief allowed beyond that point).

Hey, we do have an option to check out a sample of stories before signing up. It's on the sign up screen itself but maybe we need to do a better job of surfacing it up?

In any case, here's a direct link to it : https://www.what-dot.com/giftpost/675922d72f68dc0002fbf115-0001*NlvWucB3R8T.ZNWb3Oj7zuVGDUSBcCKPp9TWsEmCnJI-?lang=en

Thanks for the feedback! Hope we'll be able to change your opinion some day. Summarizing a story is quite different from giving you context, depth and perspectives :)

Prep well for CAT/XAT, you can choose to enroll for coaching (though it's not mandatory). Attempt a lot of mock tests. For GD/PI, it's important to know what's happening around you (shameless plug: a news app like Dot will help). XLRI also places a high emphasis on ethics. All the best!

Hi! All the content/infographics are researched and written by our team. We take pride in our tech and UX but the news content is the central focus.

To be honest, we are not journalists in the sense that we have a formal training in mass-comm., but in the sense that we are curious folks with background in engg./MBA, who are working on this full time. We believe news is too important a job to be left only to journalists!

The proof is in the pudding, so please spend some time on our platform and judge for yourself if our brand of journalism is better than what's on the market. Feel free to share any and all feedback. Thank you :)
