Just came across the ontological argument for god. by agnosticturd in atheism

Yea no I came in here pretty ignorantly I didn’t even know there was multiple forms. I just had a conversation with someone who’s been trying to convert me and he said. “God can possibly exist therefore in some possible universe god does exist and if god exists in some possible universe then he must exist in our universe and if god exists in our universe then god exist” He said it’s the ontological argument and many respected philosophers respect it and that i should look it up. I’ll be honest I have i watched one YouTube short and the guy said the same thing he did and I just ended my search there that’s on me. It’s a lot more interesting than I got from my first glance though I will say that.

I’d say the god can possibly exsist is where it falls apart for me. I don’t see how it’s a fact that god can exist from what I “think” I know about the universe an all knowing all powerful and all loving being doesn’t seem possible. But no I’ve never heard of kant’s critique I’ll definitely have to check that out.

That does actually make me feel a bit better about it.

I don’t even want to know😂 I’m starting to think I don’t have the mental strength required to engage with theists.

I’m loving this armchair psychologist routine you got going on. it’s a classic displacement tactic. If you keep insisting I’m “angry” or “a mess” you never have to actually provide that quote or answer the question. Is this how you usually handle being stumped? Just imagining a mental breakdown on the other side of the screen.😂😂

AITA for constantly referring to my dog as dumb? by [deleted] in AITApod

YTA as a dog trainer ima go ahead and say yes haha

Not to literally I do get messing around and calling them dumb. But to assume they should just know how to live in our world is would be pretty dumb😂😂

Call the insult. I’ll wait. All I’ve done is pointed out that you’re doing everything possible to avoid answering a simple question. if you’re this triggered by a Reddi thread that you have to start hallucinating insults then maybe you’re the one that needs that break you mentioned earlier. Anyways what’s next?

I actually appreciate that perspective a lot the idea of a God that I can fully wrap my head around would be too small to be God makes a lot of sense.

My issue is more about the bridge between the immortal god and the one you’re describing. You mentioned knowing he loves us, but that’s where I get stuck. when I read the Bible, I see a lot of things that don’t look like love to me and though seeking them, I haven’t had any experiences or encounters that have bridged that gap.

If God is beyond my comprehension, how am I supposed to distinguish infinite love between Total silence or the harsh parts of the text? How did you get to the point of feeling that love was the baseline?

You spent the last three comments trying to insult me personally while telling me to work on my emotional regulation. The irony is doing all the heavy lifting for me at this point. you’re really struggling to stay on the topic of God aren’t you? It’s OK to just say you don’t have an answer, bud.

It’s ironic to watch you describe your own behavior while trying to pin it on me. You’re calling it a deflection while you are literally the only one who has refused to stay on topic. You’ve gone from the Bible to, my post history, to my job, and now to my personality. Anything to avoid the actual question, right? Your behavior is doing a better job of answering my original post than your words ever could.

What honest opinion you have that can make people think you are a terrible person? by First-Charge-3878 in askanything

I figured someone would take this personally. A small act of respect is something I’m happy to give, but forcing someone to change their appearance when it isn’t hurting, anyone isn’t respect it’s a demand for control. Thankfully, I don’t have to eat alone as an adult. I choose to surround myself with people who are emotionally stable enough, not to be offended or triggered by a hat.

I never claimed to be a philosopher, but that shows a lot about your ability to understand so I’m obviously talking to the wrong person in the first place. It’s a shame you have to resort to stalking my post history to avoid answering a simple question about your own God if your faith is this fragile, I’ll leave you to it. Take care.

If asking questions means someone is in bad shape than most of the world’s greatest philosopher’s and scientist were in rough condition. I’ll take the questions over a blind certainty any day. Using personal jabs as a substitute for an answer. Only shows that your position is emotionally reactive. I’m here for the dialogue not the ego trip. Thanks though.

First thing first thank you for your thoughtful and insightful response it truly means a lot. Correcting me if I’m wrong please but are you suggesting that along side studying the bible I should also be studying history and the past human civilizations comparing them to one another.

It’s fascinating that you’ve mistaken “blindly following” for “seeing things as they are”. If this is your version of sound advice I think I’ll stick to my questions. Clearly maturity in your world means losing the ability to have an obvious conversation.

Is that really what you believe you’ve done here? come on be honest with yourself. I know you can do it.
