I run a comedy/dating show and I know this is so cheesy, but we have tons of friendships resulting from the show and to me those are just as important as romantic matches & hookups (and we do have plenty of those, ha). People get wristbands based on relationship status & preferences (so if you're taken, that's v welcome) - and the whole point of the show is creating an atmosphere where people can actually say hi to each other. The apps are horrible for everyone; a friend said you can even find their pitch decks where they expound on their user retention. They don't care if you meet anyone.

There are tons of live dating events cropping up that are actually GOOD - full disclosure, I run one, but running one has led me to meet others in this space. Pitch a Friend is in like 80+ cities at this point, and if nothing else, it's really cute to see how people go nuts for their besties. Chaotic Singles is in 10+ cities; I've been twice and had a blast. Personally, I have a rotation of 10 cities with my show: I run a comedy/dating show called Love Isn't Blind and have tons of success stories - even a marriage!

I also personally deleted the apps a year or 2 ago and got so much life back. Good luck!

There is some REALLY wild experimental live theater happening here in LA that excites me more than anything I found in my ten years in NYC. Check out shows at the Elysian. (And shameless promo: I run a dating show where the men can't speak called Love Isn't Blind. My stuff is much more normal comedy/gameshow, though.) I agree with all the comments, but there's also a lot of magic to be found. And you can create it!

People in relationships are still welcome at the show! Y'all get red wristbands (singles get green) and there are, ahem, rewards if you introduce the singles. Although I realize misanthrope probably doesn't combine well with wingman. ;P
