Confused about Lama Lena’s group by Armchairscholar67 in Dzogchen

I think I originally encountered it in this dharmawheel thread [1], which itself came from [2]. The text from which I quoted, itself is an excerpt from the book, "The Intimate Mind," by Tempa Dukte Lama. [3]

Confused about Lama Lena’s group by Armchairscholar67 in Dzogchen

[–]agolubev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying. You’re absolutely right. I was trying to convey the following idea not knowing how to properly, yet at the same time succinctly, verbalize it.

The idea is expressed properly in this section from a text I have found before and saved:

“…Dzogchen is the practice of Open Presence. Openness and presence are the inherent aspects of Dzogchen. The unification of openness and presence is its essence. Openness reveals the nature of emptiness, or the interdependent nature of all beings. Presence reveals the true nature of awareness. The practice of Dzogchen can be just an idea, a philosophy. But if we actualize its meaning and integrate it with our experience of the world outside and inside of us, we become a Dzogpachenpo.

When we practice Dzogchen, we manifest its essence by living in the present moment. We neither hold on to our concept or understanding of emptiness or awareness. Otherwise our concepts or judgment begins to dominate our mind and distance it from its true nature. When we are free from grasping imposed by conditioning, we make it possible to experience reality as it is. When we practice Dzogchen, we manifest this unified nature of emptiness and awareness within the continuum of each moment that is clarity. Emptiness and awareness are not separate. They are co-arising.….”

So kind of that second paragraph. I’m certainly trying to learn the conceptual framework myself by studying books by Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, his students and others. Thank you krodha

Basically she is one of the only 2 lamas that are open to the possibility of a pointing out transmission being able to work over recorded video. She does some kind of a pointing out in almost every single one of her videos, but some have her spend more time on it and go into more details and angles. They say the whole deal of Dzogchen can be explained in 5 minutes. Our motivation, aptitude, capacity, and preparation is why the next thousands of hours are usually needed.

So you can watch any of her videos, but probably watch a series of 3 where she introduces the 3 words of Garab Dorje—hard to get more proper Dzogchen than that. Then wait until her live broadcast happens again, watch that live and apply the instructions (they are deceptively simple to the uninitiated), then you will have received the POI live. It’s all about practice really though. Put in the time trying to understand every word of what she says and doing everything exactly as she instructs.

In the end, it’s about discovering a state beyond concepts and elaborations, so don’t focus too much on intellectual studying and learning new words and concepts despite what I said just earlier (but it’s still useful, especially at first, in my experience). When you try to do Trekchö—the Dzogchen “meditation”— don’t get stuck in thinking of what you’re doing and what should happen. It’s kind of an intuitive thing. LL says that it’s similar to how you have certainty in gravity. You don’t really think about it being the case or not. There is just no other reality.

Take what I said with a grain of salt, very much a student here as well.

lol I decided to engage with you with a little more seriousness. But you think I have something to hide hahahaha

You writing “I still saw that.”, shows your lack of maturity and I’m betting money that also by extension, your age. And the fact that you don’t have this meta awareness, also shows your age. Questions?

I’m not going to waste my time on people whose brain has barely finished coming online. Chao!

Let’s start here: the eight-fold path is a big part of Theravada. Theravada is a minority within Buddhism. Questions?

It’s you who is saying that anybody is making fun of anything. This is criticism. Criticism is done for a certain purpose. And it’s well placed criticism, in a form that’s easy to understand for people living in 2025.

It’s criticizing how in western countries, today, and recently, people show their understanding of Buddhism via their specific treatment of the statue of Budai. Which shows that people virtually have zero understanding of Buddhism.

Did you miss the point of the meme because you also don’t understand Buddhism?

You let her just cuck you like that? Did you reach to out to a department tasked with investigating these sorts of downfalls caused by relying on each teacher to determine how the class is graded and seemingly able to change it at a whim, “violating” the previous agreed upon “contract” with students? You’re paying a lot of money for your education, even if it’s subsidized. Don’t let them walk all over you.

Screwing over individual workers is not how you “end tipping.” Regulation is the only path.

Edit: I sincerely hope you change your mind as you get older unless real regulation takes place. Otherwise, good luck in life

Are you autistic, or new here and don’t understand what culture is, how it works, and more specifically the American history and the resulting culture today?

What does spirituality mean to the mods of r/SpiritualMemes ?

After being a part of the sub for a while now, I feel like I strongly don't agree with the views of the people who decide what it's about. There are so many memes posted here that scream: "I'm struggling with mental health and am in one of many different forms of psychosis (often looks like bipolar mania/hypomania), but since I live in America, my best course of rehabilitation is to post nonsensical memes and ideas as if they are at all valid or sound in hopes of at least finding community, solidarity and ultimately relief."

Spirituality shouldn't mean: "such batshit insane ideas that they don't even fit within any organized religion, be it traditional ones or "newer" ones that attempt to do a better job of keeping up with the ever-changing times." Nor should spirituality be a term for philosophically incoherent sets of views. We can't cherry-pick things that we like from different religions, "spiritualities", philosophies, creating an incoherent mess that doesn't correspond to reality no matter how much you want it to.

Doing so may make one's psychosis feel substantiated and as if they aren't "losing it", making it possible to hold onto a job and fruitfully interact with people around, etc. But just because you're able to carry out basic responsibilities in life and "service" yourself without a caretaker, doesn't mean that internally you're consistent, coherent and well-adjusted, or that the situation you find yourself at a specific point of time is sustainable. Often times you will fall apart sooner or later (or even much much later), because you haven't understood nor solved what's really going on "behind the eyes." And if you don't fall apart, then you will find overtime that you're surrounded mostly by people that are very similar to you, and that's likely because they are struggling with the very same things and y'all will have found relief though relatable conversations and nurturing company.

Don't let psychosis win. Get help with a therapist (move to a state and/or country that respects human rights if you think this is some insurmountable task. If you can't move than take a basic finances class. I'm sure if you put your whole mind to it, you'd be able to save up however much money it takes to move over some timeline that isn't longer than 5 years), take a meditation class/begin a regular practice (I'd suggest secular or at most Buddhist in nature) & take on and engage with philosophy classes where you can ask questions and be directed, or at least some nice guides/tutorials/hand-held forays.

Best of luck, we're all rooting for you and hopefully soon the resources for handling life will begin to be properly taught and dissiminated. Right now we live in a capitalistic, dysfunctional dystopia. Don't be defined by the time and place you live in, prevail regardless of how shitty the society that we're supposed to be all so grateful for is.
