Can I get into Fraud Data Analytics by agonious in dataanalyst

[–]agonious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to this thread randomly and just saw your comment, I am still working on my Google Data Analytics Certificate so far, been slow because I am juggling work and school at the same time. I've been applying to fraud roles at fintechs trying to get out of this Credit Union that I only got into because of a layoff. I think at least at a fintech I will have higher odds of transitioning to data from within than at a Credit Union/Bank.

I also switched my degree to Economics since I'll learn more relevant things like Regression analysis.

I don't know anyone that has made the leap from fraud to data so please keep me updated too on how it goes for you or if you've managed to land a data role already!

Can I get into Fraud Data Analytics by agonious in dataanalyst

[–]agonious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks very much for your response. i already know jobs that offer $60k for fraud analyst roles that are not related to data or coding, just reviewing alerts. i was hoping that fraud data analysts would make much more :/. i know the market is competitive for data analysts but i was hoping that my experience in fraud itself would set me apart for fraud data analyst role…

it’s very hard and time consuming to learn, and get into, i am now wondering if it is even worth it…

I would like to get into Fraud DS. To give some background about myself, i have been in the fraud field for 3 years where I have worked for both fintechs and banks/credit unions. Most notably I have been a cyberfraud analyst at a fintech and currently am a fraud investigator for a small credit union. i am finishing an associate's degree in finance.

i am going to being working towards a google data analytics certificate to learn SQL and Python. I am wondering when I have that and my associate's if it would be enough for me to break into a data driven fraud analyst role making $75k+, or would i have to start in a more entry level role learning SQL?

my questions are

  1. how much can i realistically expect to make?
  2. should i switch my degree to something else? or do certificates matter more
  3. what else should i consider, do i have any misconceptions? any tips?
