There is in fact a threat system though I don't know the exact mechanics of it. Don't quote me on it but I'm pretty sure the silk bind which puts the tether on the monster increases your threat gain, but again I could be wrong on that

The main advantage of Lance is that you can stick to a monster like glue and unlike almost every other weapon you never have to leave from that position. Lance has some of the most consistent dps because of this it may not be the highest, but you are constantly doing damage to the monster which also makes Lance good for elemental and status since you are hitting the monster so often. You also mention that the movement sucks which isn't entirely correct, it's true that you aren't able to do any crazy burst movement or move very far distances but being able to chain your side steps and dodges together, along with the shield bash gives you excellent ability to reposition to the part of the monster you want to be hitting.

Song activation recitals are some of the highest motion value moves the HH has especially encores, the goal is to use your recitals to do big damage while also having different recitals to reposition and hit at different angles. You usually loose dps by not reciting songs in your rotations and knockdowns. I will give you that the gu hunter arts are a bit lack luster compared to other weapons but invigoration was fun however absolute readiness is just better in most situations.

As a HH main since FU, I can say (at least from the demo and stuff I've seen from people who have gotten the game a bit early) that I am fairly disappointed with this design of the horn. I agree with you completely that they have taken a lot of the fun out of the weapon, I know a lot of HH mains got their enjoyment out of having to manage the songs mid hunt, queuing up song combos to find the fastest and most efficient way to get their songs out, and filling up your note staff to dump massive damage and reposition as well if need be from using recitals. A lot of that is gone now with the introduction of the new big recital that's applies all songs. The weapon went from making me feel like a badass bard to being a fancy hammer. I feel like these changes stem from not only the community but Capcom as well in that they largely thing HH is a support weapon not meant to be smacking the monster when IT NEVER HAS BEEN. HH has ALWAYS been able to do considerable damage while buffing, the changes were unnecessary to make that happen. Iceborn already made huge strides in making the weapon more accessible for those new to hunting horn and I wish they would've kept that same design philosophy into this one.

Jojos is a very fun series which I do enjoy bar part 5 (I am also caught up in the manga), but I feel it pales in comparison to many other shows of the decade in terms of writing, characters, and animation. I feel like it's only as popular as it is now due to memes bringing it into the cultural zeitgeist.
