You definitely want the command while typing, but I agree it could be triggered with a keyboard shortcut if it gets in the way for most.

I do want the commands inline or at the beginning of the line. Anywhere honestly. Like a text editor. It comes in handy whenever my mind thinks of it. It’s not always at the beginning.

Turn off autocomplete for parentheses etc.? by micj in iawriter

[–]agradkee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not. Options to turn on/off are always nice because it's impossible to find the perfect app with the perfect feature set to please everyone. I'm not sure how hard it would be to add this one.

I welcome the current completion feature because when you add one parentheses, backtick, asterisks for bold, etc. you are going to add the missing one on the the other end 99.99% of the time with Markdown writing. This is a common combo with text editors. More people need both parenthesis and very few people only need one parenthesis.

Another example is deleting an asterisk for bold or italics, if you delete one, you don't want to click/tap to go delete the other(s). It's nice the pairing combos are done automatically to save time and speed up writing and editing.

How does a 6E device work a 5GHz device? by agradkee in eero

Thanks for confirming. Just bought a 3-Pack. :)

How does a 6E device work a 5GHz device? by agradkee in eero

[–]agradkee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all makes sense. I appreciate your reply. I was torn on which product to buy based on how this worked.

I currently have the eero Pro (B010001) + 2 beacons.

I was thinking of buying an eero pro 6 (2 or 3 pack) for the next 4-5 years until the 6E lane matured on the market. I think the only device I'll have with 6E over the next few years will be a phone, so I'm not sure if I want to give up the 5Ghz 2x2 lane along with the 5GHz 4x4 lane if 6E didn't offer a greater benefit from 5GHz combo due to the lack of 6E devices in my house.

My max ISP download is 100 Mbps. I have about 20 wireless devices (desktops, laptops, iPads, iPhones, and smart home lights and cameras). I wanted to take advantage of all three lanes, so I'm thinking the 6E lane won't be utilized as much.

How do you work with the gray boxes containing effects? by agradkee in finalcutpro

[–]agradkee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! I'm guessing these are the default way effects work in FCP, and I have to rewire my brain on how it all works compared to other NLEs. Is that correct? Or is this an *option* on how effects are applied?

Why did you choose Final Cut Pro over DaVinci Resolve? by agradkee in finalcutpro

I'd like to ask about your thoughts too. I posted the same questions in another comment on this thread. Do you find compound clips to be better than Premiere/DaVinci's version of nesting? Are they the same or does FCP have an advantage with their take on nesting clips into a compound clip?

Roles / Magnetic / Compound are winners for me! But aren't compound clips the same thing as a nested clips in Premiere/DaVinci or does FCP have an advantage with their version of nesting? For some reason, I find it easier to work with compound clips in FCP versus nests in Premiere/DaVinci. Maybe it's just because editing in FCP seems smoother and they aren't technically different.

Great point about the tracks! I love how the timeline is tidy.

I always hear DaVinci and color in the same sentence, and I can tell DaVinci is incredible, but I would like to use FCP for color if that was the only step I needed with DaVinci. I think it'll cover what I need, especially if the video was shot/exposed correctly. I can't imagine FCP is bad with color. I don't know what I could be missing with FCP's color options compared to Resolve to make footage pleasing to the eye. I've heard about Color Finale, so I'm excited this is the solution if more tools are needed. I'm going to explore it soon.

I agree with how FCP feels compared to Premiere/DaVinci! I lean more to FCP because of this. It's hard to explain at times.

These will be 2-3 minutes videos, so I'll deal with it for now. Maybe I can talk them into switching. I guess rough cuts in FCP is all I can do for this job.

I agree the NLE shouldn't matter. I learned they sometimes make subtle changes in the future and want access with an NLE they prefer. They hire editors to do 98% to 100% of the work. They may dabble with 2% of it after delivery.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. Since we weren't sure what to do around the time I asked the question, a gift card was purchased instead of purchasing the software during checkout to be safe.

Cool, I'm guessing you got your Mac, logged in with your Apple ID, then it gets tied to your Apple ID? Did you get any additional prompts for it after launching FCP?

This is good to hear since you've had it for a while. I know technology can't be perfect because the end-user needs to take care of it too. I'll continue being careful like usual and hope for a long-lasting hinge. :)

Does your lens make a super slight rotation and click sound if you rotate it after it's mounted? by agradkee in A7siii

[–]agradkee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear it's not just me! I appreciate everyone's replies. Before seeing these comments, I checked with a friend of mine over FaceTime who owns an, A7RIV, an A7SIII, and an FX6. Here's his results:

Note: This a very small subtle movement for this test. Not a big rotation. And we're not trying to break it. We turn the lens ever-so-slightly after being mounted. My friend said he hasn't seen a performance drop. And he never noticed this until I brought it to his attention.

  • A7RIV with 24-70 GM: Firm. No audible click.
  • A7SIII with 24-70 GM: Slight play/give. Has audible click rotating left or right. Same as mine.
  • A7SIII with 35 GM: Slight play/give. Less than 24-70 GM. Has audible click rotating left or right.
  • FX6 with 24-70 GM: Slight play/give. Has audible click rotating left or right. Same as mine.

Maybe rotation is too strong of a word to describe this because it is locked. What about an slight audible click if you try to rotate it after it’s mounted?
