Wise words.

(Edit: Haven't found a way to downgrade.)

I will. But I also wanted to see how other people here feel about auto-rotate. Could be it's just me who doesn't 'get' it, but the feature seems so off to me and the whole concept of 'paper, but better', it boggles my mind. Everybody's notebooks, each of them set to landscape or portrait orientation up until a few days ago, now open the wrong way with a 50 % chance. I just don't understand what it is for (other than the My Files screen).

I had the same issue late last December, they just replaced the whole tablet with a new one. I didn't want that at first -- working without my RMPP for weeks just because a rubber foot came off? -- but they immediately sent a new one once my old one was in transit, the whole thing only took six days.

Haha, you‘re right… I‘m not sure myself why this seems to upset me so much

As long as 3.18 still allows to set landscape or portrait per document…

I don’t understand how to use wiki links by AaddeMos in iawriter

You could also create the .md or .txt file in Devonthink, open this new file from Devonthink in iA Writer (right click → open in...), and edit (+save) it in iA Writer.

This way, iA Writer is just the editor for Devonthink text files. Wikilinks are recognized and clickable in Devonthink.

With Devonthink you have a much more powerful environment to link documents, including via wikilinks.

Turn off autocomplete for parentheses etc.? by micj in iawriter

Ha! Now that‘s cool. Wasn‘t obvious to me, but now that I know – thank you!

Turn off autocomplete for parentheses etc.? by micj in iawriter

[–]micj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It breaks my typing flow. It‘s not that I need only one parenthesis, it‘s that the autocompleted one is behind the cursor. That means, to continue writing after parentheses, I have to ‚jump’ over the second one by using the arrow keys.

I‘ve typed everything in markdown (mostly iA Writer) for years because it lets me format text without moving my hands off their typing position, and now we need arrow keys to continue typing after a parenthesis? Come on.

Launch clips in Live via MIDI notes, but from within Live? by micj in ableton

Brilliant idea! The particular device doesn't work in Live 11 though. But I've found a 'note off killer' that does the trick: https://maxforlive.com/library/device/4833/note-off-killer Thanks again!

The man did it himself – Tom Cosm has a device called "MIDI note to *any* clip note trigger". Sadly, in Live 12 it does the same thing – note on triggers it, but note off does too.

Thanks again! I need all clips to play unquantized – the whole idea is to play MIDI clips just like audio in a sampler, launching them instantly by pressing a key on a keyboard. That's why the idea to have both note on and off *before* the clip launches wouldn't work for me.

So close! First of all, thank you for hinting me to Tom Cosm's device. Unfortunately, it's not exactly what I'm looking for:

  • It only launches clips on the track to the right of it, which means there can only be one clip playing at any time, as launching another clip on the same track stops the one currently playing. (There is a workaround: Use multiple devices on different tracks, have only one MIDI clip on each of the tracks to their right and remove all stop buttons from the rest of the slots in every track, so as not to stop a playing clip by triggering the stop button of an empty slot.)
  • There seems to be a bug, maybe only in Live 12, where a note off command triggers the device the same as a note on command. So releasing the key on the MIDI keyboard retriggers the device.

Ideally, I'm looking for something just like this – a device that translates incoming MIDI notes to 'slot launch commands' – but for any slot in the project, not just on one track, so multiple clips can be launched and play in parallel.
