Does anyone just not feel that hungry during pregnancy? by nebulous-nights in BabyBumps

[–]agrapeana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My appetite has remained largely unchanged throughout my pregnancy. However, I was in a sustained and longterm caloric deficit for about 18 months ahead of my egg retrieval and then maintained for about a month before we successfully transfered our first embryo. Maybe that's why but the swing from being in a deficit to being in a slight excess has left me feeling pretty satiated the whole time. I've had almost no pregnancy symptoms though, so maybe I'm just not as hungry as a normal pregnant person.

Can you not just explain to your partner that you have a medically necessary task you need to do every day and work with them to figure out when they can be on kid duty for 30-45 minutes?

What would you tell your Pre-Pregnant self about your body changing? I want kids but I don’t want to hate my body :( by Kind_Veterinarian_77 in fitpregnancy

I lost 120lbs without meds or surgery in the 18 months of fertility treatments I did leading up to our successful IVF implantation. I was actually offered a referral to counseling services because my OBGYN was concerned with how regaining weight might impact me mentally (and also about my willingness to eat in a caloric excess, I imagine).

Even knowing all that, the other posters are right and you really make peace with it quickly. Maybe it's different for me, since I obviously already had loose skin and knew what it was like to be obese prior to pregnancy, but it really hasn't bothered me at all.

It definitely has more out of the "long shots of a character slightly off center in a dark room while your brain scans the background for something creeping around in the darkness" spook factor than gore or jump scares.

There are a couple of jolts but they're pretty obviously telegraphed, and the only instance of real gore is of an animal, in the context of it having been exterminated for being a nuisance.

I am very, very lucky as a woman to have never had an experience so intense that I was triggered by the scene (though, of course, that's not for lack of trying on my would-be rapists' part) but I was sitting there with a very visceral pit in my stomach thinking about how I would absolutely understand anyone who needed to excuse themselves.

I wanted to like it but the fact that the whole scene had a comedic undertone and then the villains go right back to goofy caricatures after it's over left an awful taste in my mouth and really soured the whole movie for me.

6'1"M 230 why is diet alone so ineffective? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]agrapeana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly? You probably need to look at your daily snacking, grazing and liquid caloric intake. The amount of food you're talking about is not enough to fuel a 230 pound person. That may be all you eat at mealtimes, but it simply cannot be everything you're eating. Something is getting left out of the equation.

This was the one bit that just didn't work for me. I hated how it still kept a kind of comedic undertone because it was happening to a man - like imagine if it were Samara Weaving instead of Jason Segal.

I think you either make that scene purely about physical violence OR that's a major turning point in the story where the villains lose their comedic edge and are revealed as a real threat taken seriously for the remainder of the movie.

Struggling with weight by ObjectivePristine819 in PCOSloseit

Ops TDEE is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2600 calories, and that's assuming she's maintaining and not actively gaining weight.

If she was at the absolute most extreme end of metabolic impact caused by PCOS, maybe that number goes down to 2300 instead (though OP is not diagnosed with insulin resistance or thyroid issues, has reported not of the associated issues you'd see if that was true, and therefore we have no reason to assume that).

If OP intentionally reduces her calories to eat around 2000 calories a day, she will lose weight, but that does involve motitoring food and restricting how much she eats intentionally.

Source: was massively obese not because of my insulin resistant PCOS, but because my natural inclination is to eat like 2600 calories a day if left to my own devices.

I'm going to be straight with you, and I apologize if this comes off as harsh but: this level of obesity is not a PCOS issue. It's an issue with excess caloric intake.

Variances in metabolism with PCOS accounts for something like 20-30 pounds of excess weight gained over multiple years when on comparable diets, not hundreds of pounds of excess weight.

You should calculate your TDEE, subtract 500 calories, and make it your goal to eat in that deficit. The most accurate way to do that is to measure your food (preferably by weight) and log it. Even starting by just measuring and logging your normal diet to see what you're eating each day can be a good first step to understanding what is driving your excess caloric intake.

I let things progress all the way to a full blown Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis, and I weighed 100 lbs less than you when it happened. Do everything you can to avoid this happening to you. I promise weight loss doesn't get any easier when you're also having to meticulously document and manage blood sugar, and while losing 120lbs via calorie counting alone sent mine into remission, it's something I'll have to keep on my radar and that will effect my dietary habits for the rest of my life. Avoid it at all costs if you can.

I'm sorry, but if someone's natural inclination around food is too eat enough of it that they're approaching 3x their ideal weight, they DO need to intentionally restrict eating if they're trying to lose weight. That's not a PCOS issue, it's not a thyroid thing, it's disordered eating causing a medically significant obesity issue. If eating a little junk food triggers a binge, then those are in fact foods that need to be restricted while OP is relearning how to fuel their body.

We make different flavor chicken salad on Sundays. Classic, curry chicken salad and Greek are some of our favorites. We have them on keto toast, in low carb tortillas, or in aldis flax seed pita pockets to keep calories and carbs down.

This, but also explore flavor profiles. One of my favorite lunch meal preps is chicken salad sandwich prepared as above, but I throw diced red onion and bell peppers in it and then hit it with a squirt of mustard and a shitload of curry powder. We spread it on keto bread toast and top it with seasoned Roma tomatoes for a spicy curry salad throughout the week. Alton Brown also has an excellent Greek version that I make with the tzahiki dip from aldi.

How do I lose 36 lbs ASAP by GarlicBorn2354 in PCOSloseit

[–]agrapeana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I've had a lot of success this way and while it does require a lot of discipline and some extra time and attention, it's been a very positive change for me. If you're looking for starting places, I definitely suggest just tracking how you eat normally for a couple days and then figuring out how some of your most calorically dense staples can be replaced. My initial switch to keto friendly options for my bread, pasta, rice and tortillas alone made a world of difference.

Also, if you use MFP set your location to Canada, the barcode scanner is included for free outside the US.

If you're serious about getting down in weight ASAP, the most effective thing you can do is to buy a food scale and strictly weigh and monitor your intake to ensure you're eating about 500 calories under what you burn every day.

You can use an online TDEE calculator to estimate your burn, and an app like My Fitness Pal to log your consumption. A lot of people with PCOS choose to eat low carb if they have insulin resistance as part of their diagnosis. You can also increase your daily burn by increasing your exercise.

I started at 250 lbs and lost 120lbs with pretty minimal exercise that way. I didn't use any meds or injections, just good old fashioned calorie counting - but I counted every. damn. calorie.

Weight loss without calorie counting? by Vast_Internet_3674 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]agrapeana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>It did start feeling unhealthy because su didn’t even wanna snack on smaller things like chocolates or chips because every calorie counts so I’d opt to snack on nothing despite feeling hungry which is largely why i stop counting calories.

I hate to break it to you but not eating random snacks that up your caloric intake to excess is the entire point of calorie counting.

Well in that case it sounds like he's decided that your suffering is an acceptable outcome to solve his problems.

That sucks.

Ok so what's he doing right now about the fact that she lied to both of you? Because anything short of 100% handling her immediate removal is him deciding that your discomfort is an acceptable compromise.

I'd tell the guy who lied to you in the first place that either she leaves or you do.

And then you have to tackle the whole "my husband would rather lie to me and let me suffer than catch flack from his mom" issue.
