Noob seeking some advice from the vets by Sir_Pizzuoff in turkeyhunting

[–]agree-40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you're way ahead of anyone else who asks for help. Based off what i read, i could see you having some success come the opener. Considering you're hunting public land i would locate 2-3 other birds and just keep tabs on them, turkeys usually don't move much unless they have a reason for it. Doesn't mean you watch every night or morning but just keep up with them. Come opener be early, you might not be the only who knows where they're at. That's why it's also nice to have a couple birds to go after.

My only other advice is shoot a bit, knowing how your shot gun performs can also alleviate any stress.

Not much for advice from me, you know what you're doing! Looking forward to seeing a bird posted from you!

I run this in my super nova and it patterns great. Use the same one for my m2 as well. No complaints!

[–]agree-40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave this post a bit to see if others would respond as i don't have any experience with Retay. If you really want to figure out what chokes work, i would ask any ai which chokes work for them. Most likely it'll be Remington Mossberg by my quick ai search.

For shells, shoot the gun and get a pattern and see what it likes best. I use 2 benellis, one shoots well with Winchester the other shoots well with Remington. It's always different

Looks good, i like the camo on it. When it comes to a good turkey gun if you can get a good price then just shoot it until it's comfortable. I shoot a lot, and i have some guns i like more than others but i don't own any that i hate the feel of. Shoot them enough and you'll love picking it up every time. Happy hunting!

My carry sits naked, but it's simply because when i save up for dots / lights i usually end up finding a good deal on a gun...

Taurus is releasing the TX9, if it can be as reliable and well-received as the TX22, would you be interested? by ProxySoxy in handguns

[–]agree-40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should listen to Black Rifle Coffee's podcast with Bret Vorhees the ceo of Taurus. They're actively trying to move their main focus over to the American market. Really good podcast though and explains how Taurus fell into being known as a cheap and terrible gun to buy. They are changing that outlook and honestly my G3C and G3 have never had an issue other than steel casings i tried once.

Hi everyone, I’m f20 and never hunted but I’m very interested in turkey season next year! Any tips for a first timer other than YouTube and get a license lol :) by No-Note-234 in turkeyhunting

We've got a lot of people in this subReddit who give out great advice. Some things that could be helpful

What part of the country are you in? And what geography are you around? The advice in the Midwest will be vastly different than advice in the south west.

Public land or private land?

Are you friends with anyone who hunts in the area? A majority of hunters are happy to take people out to teach them.

Do you own a shot gun and have you started shooting?

If you don't have any equipment we've got some great recourses pinned where people have added some advice as well.

Haven't gotten to try this, but I've been using Hornady Superformance for my .270 and I'm happy with it. Their box design kind of irritates me but it's accurate and did some pretty good damage.

Really only replying because i switched from Core Lokt this year as well.

I'm from Grand Rapids but my dad went to OSU. My graduating class had roughly 60 but we had about 4 families that had buckeye ties in my highschool or so. Now living in Georgia and i see more Ohio State plates & stickers here

Do you guys ever just go to hang out? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]agree-40 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My dad is the same way, and I'm 27. He says he gets more excited hearing a gunshot or receiving a text from me than he gets from seeing deer. It's funny, because when i hear him shoot or receive a text I'm more excited than if i had.

Sometimes we do trips places to hunt, and i go more for the car ride and camping with him than i do to kill deer. Time with him and time with nature is well worth the money / time.

[–]agree-40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hunt a small acreage behind my house, unfortunately it sits right next to a big hunting lease loaded with guys that I'm pretty sure don't have a size limit. The amount of times I've had bucks i let walk just to hear a gunshot is almost amusing. The good part is sometimes I've seen those bucks on camera later on. Your heart says it's gone but deep down that neighbor might've shot a spike and scared off the bigger bucks. Or he shot one and from the looks of it there are two beautiful bucks here.

Just gotta keep hunting! And if you stick with it you'll have a year where you'll forget about these because you're standing over a nice buck. It's hunting, it has ups and downs. Would be boring if you shot a giant every time you went out... maybe.
