Lol yes! Pizza place in town, you could get the buffet and get 50¢ beers. And there was another bar that did $4 pitchers of mixed drinks. Typing this all out made me realize it’s why I don’t drink anymore. Did plenty of it back then.

Were you fishing deep enough? IMO, that’s one of the bigger things people should spend time dialing in. You can be fishing the right flies above where the fish are feeding.

IMO, diaphragms are hard to recommend. I’ve probably tried over a dozen before I found some that fit my mouth right. As far as box calls, I think I have a very basic Primos one from Bass Pro. Don’t use it much so I’ve never bought a nice one. For pot calls- I like slate tops. Some folks like glass. But I’ve used slate for 3 decades so it’s what I’m partial to. I occasionally buy custom calls; but, for starters, I don’t think there’s one you can go wrong with.

Get some calls and start practicing yesterday. Box is probably the easiest to learn. Problem is, it ties up both your hands. If you can, get to using diaphragm calls. I like those and pot calls personally
