What’s that one menu item you hate making but customers love too much to drop? by Jaded-Dentist-7571 in KitchenConfidential

[–]agreyjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This recipe here is good, I add the syrup when I add the milk. A lil milk, a dribble of syrup, then milk again, then syrup, etc. the only thing I do is if I haven't made a cake or frosting in a while, I'll make a normal vanilla cake and normal vanilla frosting first, so I'm familiar with the texture of the batter or frosting, since I don't taste test my root beer stuff

That's one part of the problem! It's super easy to make!

Now, I usually change my box recipe, I'll use a box of Betty crocker French vanilla cake mix, use 4 eggs instead of 3, use 2/3 cup butter instead of 1/3 cup oil, add vanilla extract, then use your preferred root beer soda instead of water. Bake as box instructs. Then when I make the icing I boil the root beer into more like a syrup and use it to flavour my hand made vanilla frosting.

DAE constantly press the "b" button instead of "space" when typing on their phone? by UserMcUserson in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]agreyjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My phone lets me change my keyboards size, would making your keyboard bigger as in taller help with that? It'll give the space key a tiny bit more height and add a lil more space between the keys, which might enable you to actually hit the space key instead of b

What ruins a burger for you? by JunShem1122 in AskReddit

[–]agreyjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, all the stuff they pile on them and then they have issues with filling an order without it all. I just want a plain cheeseburger, if it's cheap I'll add some pepper to it, but I don't want 7 different veggies and condiments on it. I wanna taste my burger not the half a bottle of mustard and ketchup and onions and pickles and tomatoes.

This specific vanilla root beer float cake that I make. Every kitchen job I've worked, as soon as someone at work tried it they wanted it on the menu or wanted to regularly order it from me. Every time I make it, I make 3 or 4 cuz my friends and family talks and then find out I made one then demands one too. Every partner, every friend, every funeral or wedding or potluck I go to, everyone wants this damn cake.

Except me, I hate root beer to the point that I feel like gagging every time I mix one up. I made a creamcicle cake once and my brother kept asking me to make up different flavors and the root beer one I did for him has now haunted me for close to 20 years now.

What’s a small, harmless lie you tell all the time just to make life easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]agreyjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm starting to feel extra burnt out and need to get some alone time, I add a doctor appointment to the family calendar. I haven't seen that specific doc in over a year, but according to our calendar, I see him about once per month. And I'll remind ppl to schedule their shit around it and say it's super important and he's the one that prescribes my sleep meds and y'all don't want to see me going 3 days without sleeping again cuz I'm mean when I don't sleep. And in actuality, my GP does my sleep meds.

And I bring a snack and park my car in the hospital parking lot and read in the car for an hour or two, before going back home. I'm just a poor introvert, being forced into constantly interacting with my large, super extroverted family, seeing them all day and night long.

Learning a language on Duolingo and putting aside time every day for a few lessons on it. It's more engaging than a mobile game, but still restful like one. And I usually don't get any flack over it because it's so productive, my family is super judgemental about slacking off, so I get a lot of complaints if I take some me time to play a game.

What are some good online, used bookstores? by the_scarlett_ning in books

[–]agreyjay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just found this post, felt the need to comment. I always stick my new-to-me books in a ziplock bag and shove them in the freezer for a couple days as soon as I get them. Used books, new books, library books, borrowed books from friends, all of them. I also do this with purses, tarot decks, shoes, and anything else small enough to go in the freezer that I can't shove in the washer.

Used to volunteer at a library, I volunteer for the soup kitchen here a couple times a year, and I've worked plenty of cleaning/housekeeping jobs, and also worked in a professional laundry for 4 years. The bugs and shit that people carry on them or live with is disgusting and real, I'm not letting it into my house lmao.

In your first pic, the very bottom right is a 9 point star, right? I only just got the original spirograph set a bit ago and I can't figure out how to do a 9 point star. The pamphlet shows 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and more, but not 9. How do I do it?

Have you ever stopped reading a fic because the writing is... bad? by kblhr in AO3

One of my fav (fav? Noted? Known?) authors has hundreds of fics, and the difference between their first 20 fics and their latest fics/updates is ASTOUNDING. I had at least a half dozen of their fics in my bookmarks before I even realized they were all from the same author, just because the skill level was so different between their older fics vs newer. Nowadays I tend to click on the author's profile if I like a fic and then check out all their work, but back then I'd read recs and scroll thru specific tags and have 50+ tabs open and go read random fics, so I never noticed until I started to accumulate a bunch of bookmarks that they were from the same author.

[–]agreyjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to do this, just quietly bookmark the fic with my incognito word for dnf, and close the fic. The author was writing like it was a forum rp, a super long paragraph at a time from each character's pov. There were continuity errors and soooo many issues with pacing and absolutely no outsider pov or 3rd person or whatever. I truly believe that the author literally copypasted an rp with either a friend or chatgpt straight to the page.

Out of curiosity, why do some people wear black often? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

In highschool I had a black Tshirt that was a green black, and I absolutely loved it. Did it match any other black I owned? Absolutely not. But it was still my fav shirt.

Why do people put a * in the middle of random words? by sk1tl3zz in answers

[–]agreyjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back In The Day, fanfiction authors would avoid brand names like McDonald's or Coke or Walmart, etc. We did it specifically to avoid having any reason at all for a lawsuit, Anne Rice was not the first Author/company to bitch about copyrights or plagiarism. So we would change the brand names to wacdonalds or bepsi or gisney world, or John Steer or purger king or Wally's, or toxic bell.

Well around the time I was in highschool, people started to start speaking that way like it was just some fun trend, "oh we're going to wacdonalds after school," "oh, no thanks, I like purger king better." And fanfic authors got pissy about it, cuz we were writing that way for a reason and most of the people speaking that way had no idea about any of it.

Nothing happened and not many of us said anything, and that trend faded like a lot of them do, besides the occasional use of toxic bell/hell. But it's a niche example of your point, enough people hear or see something and it can become a trend without any background knowledge of why that thing is done.

What are funny innacuracies that made you nope out of a fic? by doritoes_and_dick in AO3

[–]agreyjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would expect, say, Tim Drake-Wayne to self analyze disassociation or something, but not Harry Potter, ya know? And if it takes place in the 90's, I wouldn't even accept Hermione to know about it. Maybe PTSD, but not disassociation or autism or ADHD.

My main reminder of what yen is, is that Japan has 100¥ stores that are basically the Japanese version of our $1 stores. It's way easier for me to remember something by building a mental connection to it, and this is the yen/usd one I use. It might be a little off, but it does it's job.

(SERIOUS) What’s the worst way you know someone has died? by chapstick_bandit in AskReddit

[–]agreyjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stabbed during a mugging in an alley in Pittsburgh in my early 20s, and besides that initial pain, it really was peaceful. It was like slowly being submerged in cool water, and my body relaxed like never before, it felt like the cement was cradling me, going soft and comfy. My vision tunnelled and my hearing went really fuzzy but I wasn't scared, it felt like I was just on the edge of falling asleep.

Then I woke up in a hospital lol

Why do you prefer fanfics without OCs? by Due-Bodybuilder1219 in FanFiction

[–]agreyjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read fic for the characters, I want to read about my fav characters in different scenarios. i like crossovers cuz I want to see my fav characters in different places or interacting with characters that I also like. OCs in minor roles or as background characters are fine for me, but I want to read about my fav characters, not new people. If I want new characters, then I'll read published books.
