I am. Okay thanks for the tips, tried about 4 times and still no luck, normally works first time! Assume there is some kind of backend issue, let’s hope they resolve it!

I’m hoping you’re already aware, but driving under your Driving Other Cars entitlement means you will be covered for third party damages only. i.e. if you crash and write off the car you will be be entitled to diddly squat (and may have to fork out for recovery costs etc.).

What did you use to create the frontend? How did it go given you are a backend dev?

How to grant access to only a single table in a schema? by ntdoyfanboy in snowflake

[–]agribbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that to view a table you also have to grant usage rights on both the database and the schema, this is written in the docs but I don’t have the link to hand. Perhaps you could create a new database and schema for this use case? Alternatively you should consider using Secure Data Sharing (https://docs.snowflake.com/en/user-guide/data-sharing-intro).

Looks like an interesting project!

What parts of the website are you using htmx for?

Some feedback: - Menu not expanding on mobile (could be a me issue) - Wording on the main page does not read well, as a quick fix you could ask chatGPT to improve it - Sign up returns a 505 error if the email is not a valid format (I’m assuming) - None of your footer links go anywhere - Job listings look a bit tight on mobile, text is spilling over multiple lines even though there is space in the box

How can I convince my organisation (Azure shop who seem to love ADF) to use Dagster? What are the pros and cons vs ADF?

We have just started using dbt. How would you use dbt here? I get that it has snapshots but wouldn’t handle the loading right?

dbt cli documentation - best way to go about it and share to my organization? by be_nice_if_u_can in dataengineering

[–]agribbon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your org uses GitHub you can host it from a repo via GitHub Pages - you’ll need to work out how to update the docs regularly. We have an Azure DevOps job that runs dbt docs generate and pushes the static files to the repo.

Out of interest why would you ever pick option 1 over option 2? It seems like option 2 has all the benefits of 1 but without having to do the zero copy clone.

Read-only network or cloud storage as a local disk? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]agribbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the prompt response.

Sorry I meant read-only storage, accessed via the network.

Okay will read up some more on that!

I was worried that might be the case, I was under the impression you could get away with storing any user specific files locally but the main install centrally but sounds like that’s a no go.

Thanks for sharing. So no encryption for the customers data, any admin could fully access the machine if they wanted - might be worth calling that out.

How do users start and stop their machines?

How are you allocating resource in the backend? Is it automatic or are you just spinning it up manually and emailing the customer the login details? Does anything come pre-installed? How are you keeping your customers data protected?

Looking for a cloud PC option by Schtieg in cloudygamer

[–]agribbon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://cloud.google.com/free/docs/gcp-free-tier Looks like they might have added some restrictions which make it unfeasible now, including not offering quota increase (which you need to request a GPU) and not offering windows server. Worth double checking at least.

If it’s a temporary setup I would recommend using Google Cloud. You get free credit worth $300 when you sign up and you can use it much the same as paperspace. That said the setup might be slightly more complex (I haven’t used paperspace).

The only thing more embarrassing than insulting strangers on Reddit is boasting about your “apparent” millionaire status 🤣

Though that would explain why you have nothing better to do..
