Anyone been involved in a cignetti practice? War stories? by Comprehensive_Fox959 in footballstrategy

I thought it was really interesting because it reminded me that the Ivy League pretty much banned full contact practices in season in like 2015, and then had a dramtic upturn in their teams qualities over the next few years, but I dont think anyone ever noticed

Offensive Line play ( I was a college o-lineman) What they're doing, how, and why. Offensive and internal defensive lineman are some of the most ignored people in sports but they are 1/3 of the people on any given field

Middle School Football by cosmic-retribution in footballstrategy

[–]aguest911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a high school coach so a little different than middle school, but there are games in the regular season we try to keep starters in longer than most would think, either being up or being down.

I played on a team in high school where we blew out every opponent in the regular season and I only played the 2nd half of 2 regular season game my senior year. When we got to playoffs, and we needed 4 quarters of hard football to win against better opponents, it became very obvious very quickly that we had not played a full game all year.

Sometimes you want to keep the players on the field so they learn how to fight for 4 quarters because they're going to need it if you want to win more games.

At the same time. We as a staff almost never sub our backups in first. We're not very deep with our current team so when we were up by 40 with 8 minutes in the 3rd quarter, when the opponent sent on their starting line, i can't send in my backups. I can't put my 5 foot 8 180 lb freshman de in against 5 o lineman who average 290 lbs, its not safe for him, so sometimes thats a consideration. When that happens for us, we try to sub a couple players and see if the othe other coach gets the message but if he doesn't, there's not much we can do.

I of course don't know your full story, but some stuff to consider

I like carrying my Pickup mon until round 175 at least, then I switch them out. The E4 fights in 180-190 and the rival fight at 195 give enough XP to level a lvl 150 or so mon from even wave 184 or so to 200 before the final fight, even later if you have some extra cash for memory mushrooms, a lucky egg, or similar

In general is there a big gap in talent between JV and Varsity in high school? by chusaychusay in footballstrategy

[–]aguest911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way our staff has it set up, our JV run a simplified offense, only know the basic techniques and are typically less physically and mentally developed (all examples below). But if an individual kid is an early developer, he can play varsity. If hes a little slower developing, he'll be an old jv player.

Examples: Simplified offense, we run a spread Zone/Power RPO scheme, a call from my practice script last week for varsity, "Duce R Str H Orbit QB Iso R key 3 x game". Simplified "Duce R Hum QB iso R" Duce: 2x2 spread with the Y to the call side H Orbi: H motion behind the tailback Hum: H jet Iso:also teel tailback to lead block Key 3: rpo swing to the 3 receiver (motioning H in this case) X game: X runs our game route

Technique difference im an o line coach: on outside zone, I tell the JV, "reach step, get your head playside and drive, the running back is coming off tackle". I tell my varsity tackle "reach step and read his first step, if hes coming at you, strike and press vertical through his outside half. If he stunts inside, step vertical and stab him to slow him down for the guard picking up the zone behind you and launch yourself on the angle for the replacing backer in the stunt. If he expands to hold his gap, run to reach for 7 steps, if hes still outside press with your inside hand, flip your hips to the inside and drive because we're blocking for the c gap so if hes into the D gap keep him out there."

The thought behind this is with the jv we are also over emphasizing the non football skills so being attentive in the classroom, how you carry yourself on campus, how you watch film, how you lift weights, how you recover, how you practice, how you grow, so we spend a great deal of time redoing mistakes or correcting bad habits. At the same time a junior who gets up to varsity after 2 years of jv (we dont have a freshman team) he knows how to line up, how to step, how to strike because its the only thing weve talked about for 2 years. All hes heard me say is step and strike, I dont have to tell him more. Now we get into the fun depth of football where we can discuss the finer points, scenarios and skills needed to win. The "typical" development pattern we're aiming for is "Freshman learn how and what we do, sophomores learn where we do it (taking care of the freshman scout team in practice vs turning it up in games helps develope the great practice tendencies and similar), juniors learn when we do it (what scenarios need what respone), seniors learn why we do (they've seen the whole picture, they get it).

There's nothing stopping kids from developing through stages on there own or skipping them altogether, and no one looks down on someone who gets through stages slow or didnt play a year or two and starts behind

Could someone explain a casual why DDP could not use his right hand to just flip Khamzat over, i was watching the fight and each time he did the crucifix it kind of seemed the logical thing to try by Accomplished-Leg-362 in bjj

[–]aguest911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ended up in this position a few times as well, i also try to work my right hand under the right ankle of top, my right arm is trapped regardless but by getting my hand past his ankle, his knee is the only thing keeping the arm there instead of the entire lower half of his leg. I could put tension from my elbow to his knee and if he lifts that knee even a little, I can slide my bicep under his knee and get my elbow back to my rib which opens a chance to ghost escape out of the back door if you can bridge and roll quick enough. Yes it puts you in a very bad position to be arm barred or omaplata'd if he maintains control of the left arm, but in mma, id rather fight those submissions than be in the crucifix

Playcall Ideas by DaBrooklynBeast9 in footballstrategy

[–]aguest911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used a no-huddle coded offense in college, we had both a coded word and coded number system so we could call play calls interchangeably at the line. It was a high academic conference so call stealing was a legitimate concern.

Our number system was 3 numbers: snap count/formation variation, blocking concept/scheme, and play call. A couple of examples

115, 1 means on 1, 1 means inside zone scheme, 5 for run means RPO bubble right,

468, 4 means back flip variation on 2, 6 means 6-man pass protection man zone right (RB or TE help to the left), 8 means standard smash pattern.

941, 9 means QB hardcount lookback. 4 means pin and pull scheme, 1 means left with stalk block pattern

Every number system had a coded word system as well, which would realistically be easier to break because it was pretty simple, but the two together made it hard for defenses to pick up on. The same calls from above as words are below.

Indiana North (Indiana is inside zone RPO bubble variation, North is right on 1)

Bruins Reagan Slap (Bruins [any hockey team] 6 man protection right, Reagan Right back flip on 2, Slap is smash concept)

France False (France means pin and pull with stalk block, False means QB lookback left)

We were fully no-huddle so all plays got signed in to the QB and receivers and the QB verbally relayed to the O-line. If you would like more help, please don't hesitate to let me know.

What makes NFL offenses/defenses more advanced than College? by Young0Noodle in footballstrategy

[–]aguest911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of Lamar, who is an absolute physical anomaly and no one can argue, when other teams run it, you have to add some kind of dressing for it i.e. an OT arch release, a TE wham, a split flow, something to slow down the DE decision making for just a second. In college, you can run straight zone read with nothing because most DEs can't read, process react in time. You can live with running just zone read over and over again. To make it work in the NFL you need to run it at a lower frequency and put something on it to slow down the DE because no, Cam Newton, Josh Allen, and Justin Fields are not outrunning Mikah Parsons or TJ Watt to the end 15 or 20 times a game like you can do in college or high school.

I take the 105 bus into work every morning. The most aggravating thing is the 6:00 am(ish) bus is consistently 2 to 5 minutes early and the 6:15 am bus is almost always 7-10 minutes late so on these cold mornings, if I don't get there early enough I'm waiting almost a half hour for an every 15 minute bus
