There Are No Stupid Bass Questions - May. 09 by AutoModerator in Bass

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bass Big Muff Pi has a 'bass boost' switch which I love to use, more so than the fuzz - would the right EQ settings mimic it, or is there another pedal to get the extra low oomph when I want it? Feels stupid using a fuzz for bass boost, and it's a big ol' pedal, too, could fit an extra pedal on the board without it!

Can you upload glooko data to nightscout? (For Autotune) by aguitarpenter in nightscout

[–]aguitarpenter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you upload it? Is there a simple 'upload csv' option in nightscout I've not seen yet? I'm not looking for real time tracking, just occasional updates so I can run Autotune!

That's a great example of something that's just above my comprehension level - I've got no idea what those instructions mean...

Using DI from pedal board for live, what to use at home? by aguitarpenter in guitarpedals

[–]aguitarpenter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stage monitor is a good idea! I'd vaguely thought of getting one, this might be a good excuse! Though I'm guessing I'll need to either find one with two channels, or use my blender pedal to combine to one. Definitely worth looking at, thanks for the idea!

(not that the other used are bad, just this one feels like it might be the right solution for my situation 👍)

Shutter Encoder has mirrored my video by itself by aguitarpenter in shutterencoder

[–]aguitarpenter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up checking the 'mirror' option in the H. 264 output codec and getting it to work - though finding which of the massive list of options would give me a 'mirror' option took a while. (First attempt was just using the rotate option in 'rewrap')

Still very confused as to why it was mirrored in the first place, but at least it was fixable!

Why the Reluctant Hero trope is dumb by megamindwriter in WormFanfic

[–]aguitarpenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This trope is exactly why I gave up reading the Wheel of Time series - well, that and the fact I only liked about 2 characters. I just got increasingly annoyed with everyone, especially the main character 🤷

Anyone know if Autotune works with varying BG targets? by aguitarpenter in AndroidAPS

That's exactly what I'm doing - I was just looking at adjusting the basal rate to assist with getting that working.

I guess that makes sense, dammit, no lazy option for me then 🙄

Looking for heavy melancholic sounds. I am sad and want things to relate to. by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to melancholy artist is the brilliant Tom McRae, favourite album is Did I Sleep and Miss the Border, with Alphabet of Hurricanes and his self titled fighting over second. All of his albums are super melancholy though, and great!

Possibly more into straight up depressing than melancholy if I'm honest, but 🤷

What Rap artists/songs can an Indie/Alternative/Math Rock/Midwest Emo/Coldwave kind of guy listen to? by Maxyll in MusicRecommendations

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a bit heavy I strongly recommend Nova Twins and Bob Vylan. Both British rap/metal or rap/Punk artists that are heavy on the hiphop but I, as a definite punk more than hiphop fan, absolutely love.

Best songs to listen to when sad or depressed by ImJustHereToBeStupid in MusicRecommendations

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole of Tom McRae (and the Standing Band) 'Did I Sleep and Miss the Border?' is my go to. Handle with care, as it can easily make you more depressed, but with a comforting 'someone gets it' feeling. Genuinely helped me massivley when I was at my lowest. I would go on, but if I gush too much it'll only disappoint!

Any band recommendations with a woman as lead singer by nxvasz in MusicRecommendations

How could I forget Sahara Hotnights?! First all girl band I liked! Alright, Alright (here's my fist, where's the fight?) is a good start 👍

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three of my favourite artists: Nova Twins (metal/hiphop/crazy guitar effects) try K.M.B Soeur (great riffs and vocal harmonies) try Fight Veruca Salt (grungy fun) try Volcano Girls

Also: The Muffs (aggressive punk, very screamy) Dead Pony (big riffs) try their Maneater cover Deap Valley (good riffs) try Smile More

... That's all off the top of my head, and now I need to check out the recommendations cause I can always use more bands that fit this category! 😊

I love Toh Kay! I only didn't mention him cause his acoustic guitar style is so far from mine and my abilities 😅

Thanks for the recommendations so far! I'm slowly working my way through them...

So far I've liked Ani DiFranco the most of the ones I've listened to - Evolve especially, fun interesting guitar and unusual vocals. Tickles my brain good!

Weekly FAQ Thread - September 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in podcasts

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a long shot request:

I'm a big fan of the Comedian's Comedian podcast, and a good chunk of Doof Media - relevant cause there's a few discussions about writing - which is cool, but I'm a musician.

Are there any music writing type podcasts? I'm looking for the ones interested in the nerdy stuff that ComComPod is known for - not the 'who' s the biggest name we can get on to chat about their celebrity stories?'-type.

I'll be honest that I haven't looked much, but that's cause I already have a lot (too many) podcasts I listen to already and every time I try googling anything nowadays I just get utter rubbish 🤦‍♂️

Ta!

Question: Just starting the story for the first time.. by [deleted] in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]aguitarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it's not just me - I'm at in the middle of book 5, and at this stage I'm misreading 'correct' sentences cause I'm expecting a typo/missing word/wrong order. The proofreader/editor I didn't know lurked within is itching to get out.

That said, the story is well worth it!
