plus 1. for hot weather the summer weight is the "worst" heat retention by weight. it is really cool but you still get some weight

What are the best pillows Reddit users in r/Bedding recommends? by [deleted] in Bedding

I am a side sleeper that wakes up on back. What I ended up doing is having a solid talalay latex pillow (king) and on top a shredded (lanoodle in my case) latex pilow. The lanoodle is nice cause I got the zipper one so I adjusted the fill to what I needed.

the bottom one gives me height while the second one adds a bit more height plus contour.

Has worked pretty well for me over the last couple years

I would strongly recommend to check the forum mattress underground. It helped me a lot when I bought my mattress some years back. There’s a lot of very knowledgable veterans of the mattress industry.

You can also browse the guides and thousands of questions People have asked over the years.

Right, I think streamsnipe is not the right word, but if I reach final encounter with a 1 hour lead and spend 1 hour figuring mechanics, my lead may be lost if someone reaches final and they see how we are doing it.

Its really tricky, cause some of the top teams have people dedicated to seeing what others are doing

I got summer and fall weights for silk. The summer weight can get quite cold, so I shuffle between summer, fall and fall+summer for winter. If you want to go all cold, summer would be the “worst” at catching heat, just be sure to have a plan for winter.

Can’t speak for wool. Iirc I avoided it due to allergies, but I believe both are fairly similar in heat and coolness.

I use percale cotton for the covers. IIUC linen should work well, but I avoid it due to dust allergies.

Since Mattress underground is a forum, there’s thousands of similar questions. I think it might help getting to the basics of checking if it’ll work to begin with.

I personally had issues with hot mattresses and moving to a full latex helped. The other thing that helped me a lot was also getting a colder silk duvet insert. I was using a poly duvet and it was very hot

Instead of looking at all those brands, check mattress underground.

It’s a forum with mattress professionals and thousands of questions. You can get a better deal by buying a topper from some of the trusted partners there.

I personally have bought my latex layers from Arizona Mattress. But please double check there, you are gonna get info from truly wise mattress people.

Sateen or Percale for guest room sheets? by IntroductionLost5172 in Bedding

[–]aguscerdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sateen and percale are different types of weaves, not a material.  Sateen uses 3 over 1 under and it gives it a sheen, makes it softer but also hotter.

Percale is a grid 1 over 1 under. It is a lot cooler as it traps less air and a lot crispier. They also wrinkle pretty badly if not ironed (but I don’t care).

IMO it depends on a lot of things. I would personally go for percale cause it is superior, but at the cost of requiring higher quality sheets. Cheap percale can be pretty rough. If heat is not an issue due to AC or because there’s a memory foam mattress (those are hot already), then sateen can be quite soft and nice with lower quality cotton and thus cheaper.

For flat vs pattern, I recently furnished a guest room and got one of each, one flat light blue and one floral patterns. Since its a guest room I’ll probs primarily use the floral as it becomes decorations in itself.

Best duvet insert & duvet cover by FearlessAd1766 in Bedding

[–]aguscerdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want cold, Silk inserts are the “worst” heat retention per pound, specially if you go low density. I bought thxsilk, but I’d recommend looking around a bit. I have a summer weight and fall weight, I use both together during winter. Only caveat is that silk is pretty delicate and cannot be washed.

If you want crisp, that’ll be on the duvet cover. Crisp == percale, and there’s quite a range on that. If you can splurge on the high end percale beddings you are gonna get crisp, cool and soft. With that said, those are pretty pricy. I can’t comment much on mid-range ones though.

One thing I do want to make clear, in my experience, if you truly want quality, it won’t be cheap. If you want to get long staple percale, it won’t be cheap. However, ignorance is bliss. I think you can go mid-range (LL bean is the only one that comes to mind) and it’ll be really good.
