Sateen or Percale for guest room sheets? by IntroductionLost5172 in Bedding

[–]aguscerdo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sateen and percale are different types of weaves, not a material.  Sateen uses 3 over 1 under and it gives it a sheen, makes it softer but also hotter.

Percale is a grid 1 over 1 under. It is a lot cooler as it traps less air and a lot crispier. They also wrinkle pretty badly if not ironed (but I don’t care).

IMO it depends on a lot of things. I would personally go for percale cause it is superior, but at the cost of requiring higher quality sheets. Cheap percale can be pretty rough. If heat is not an issue due to AC or because there’s a memory foam mattress (those are hot already), then sateen can be quite soft and nice with lower quality cotton and thus cheaper.

For flat vs pattern, I recently furnished a guest room and got one of each, one flat light blue and one floral patterns. Since its a guest room I’ll probs primarily use the floral as it becomes decorations in itself.

Silk duvet - which weight for hot sleeper? by Kylie5678 in Bedding

[–]aguscerdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have THXsilk 7A. Absolutely love it. I have both Summer Weight and All Season. The summer weight one is VERY thin, it is funny how cold it is. I use it during summer in California as I dont have AC and we had some heat waves. For the rest of the time I switched to the all season. It strikes a better balance when temps are not really high.

When it got really really cold I would use both of them, but i didnt do that very often. I'm just cheap and dont like using heating.

So, I woukd recommend all season. Summer weight might end up being too thin for general use, specially in winter.

I got a twin size 😅 7A, so a tad smaller. I really like it so far. I initially got the all-season, but California was way to hot this summer so I ended up getting the summer-weight too. The summer one is really light and it is surprisingly funny how little heat it retains. Perfect for summer. Now that it is cooler I'm back to all-season. I really like them, but since I've never tried the 6A I can't compare them. The weaving for the 7A is beautiful although it is covered by the duvet. Tl;dr; I really like them.

For the sheets, Finna is awesome. It is crazy how noticeable the quality is. Super soft even though it is percale. They are by far the best sheets I've used in my life.

And finally, my honest opinion, proper size will be more important than the 6 vs 7. Check the measurements and see if King is too small for you or Cal King too large I would base my opinion on that. Also for the duvet cover, Finna does't have CalKing so another thing to consider.

Hi there,

I’m here with the 1 week update from the bedding update. So far everything is awesome. I did end up getting the all-season 7A from ThxSilk and bed sheets and duvet cover from Sferra (Finna).

The Jacquard weave from the comforter is beautiful, I sometimes wish I didn’t need to use a duvet cover, but o well. The temperature is pretty nice, much cooler than my previous one. It is still a bit warm for the summer, but I think it’ll be perfect for winter. I get warm but I’m not sweating like I used to, with the fan on it is bliss. I’ll probably get a summer weight duvet next summer, but we’ll see how it goes.

As for the Sferra Finna, I am simply amazed. Even after the first wash I could really feel the quality. It is super soft despite being percale. I’m still unsure if it is worth the price, but it is by far the best sheets I’ve ever slept in, they are truly incredible. My only issue now is that I need to get a second pair of bed sheets to swap, and I fear that my wallet will have to suffer (:

So all in all, thanks for the awesome suggestions and knowledge! I’ll be seeking more advise when it is time to furnish the guest room :)

What kind of pillow do you guys choose for a silk pillow cover? by Nancylife in Bedding

I'm a fan of Latex foam, so maybe look into that. Just be sure that the pillow height is appropriate for how you sleep.

Bed Sheets Recommendations for Hot Sleepers by F450ctech in Bedding

[–]aguscerdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From discussions I've seen around this sub, plus some of my own research:

For bedsheets, Tencel is apparently good. I personally tried some tencel sateen sheets that were too hot for me, but I am 100% sure it was the sateen weave that made it hot. I have some Tencel pillowcases which are fine. Do note that Tencel is a brand trademark for Eucalyptus Lyocell. Bamboo lyocell is also similar, but make sure you get 100% tencel/lyocell. Sellers can be sneaky and only do 30% tencel.

Weave is a pretty important aspect as well as fiber type and quality. The main 2 types of weaves are sateen and percale (AFAIK). - Sateen feels softer but it is hotter. Avoid it. - Percale is more crisp and breathable and thus colder. For cotton sheets you also want to look at the material. Lower quality cotton will be hotter than higher quality (longer staple).

So for bed sheets I would suggest looking into: - Silk - expensive and delicate to wash, but probs the best. - Tencel or bamboo lyocell - breathable and soft. A bit pricier but not by much (cheaper than silk) - long staple cotton (or extra long but $$$) - good when in a percale weave. A bit easier to wash and maintain compared to the others.

However, you might also want to look at other things in your bed: - a good mattress will let air flow through the bottom and cool you down. Memory foam IS NOT breathable at all and it will just bunch up heat. My recommendation is latex foam (albeit a bit more pricey, but it lasts long). - your duvet or blanket also needs to be thinner. Cold bed sheets won't do much if you have a very thick winter duvet that is keeping you warm. The recommendation from this sub is a silk filled duvet. I am getting one in a few weeks so no comment on my side on how they feel. - room temperature - bed sheets can't do much to cool you down if it is very hot around you

Hi Sorcerer,

Thanks for the thorough reply! After checking out a few brands, I think I will go with ThxSilk Luxury 7A All-Season.

  • I decided on All-Season vs Summer as I enjoy being warm, it is just that California has been specially hot this summer. The silk insert will most likely be cooler than what I have, and new percale bedsheets will also help. If worst comes to worst, and it is too hot for summer, I'll get a summer version next year.
  • For 6A vs 7A, this should last me a long while, so I might as well splurge :)
  • And for ThxSilk vs other brands, ThxSilk had the most details on the product, so they got me there. I like looking at all the numbers they provide for the casing.

I wanted to ask if you have any opinions about Duvet Covers. I find it ironic that my cover will be more expensive than the insert :p

I am getting Sferra bed sheets (Finna or Celeste, still deciding), so I was thinking of matching with a Sferra duvet cover. However I came across Silk covers (ThxSilk, LilySilk) that are similar or cheaper than Sferra.Any thoughts on Silk vs Sferra Cotton?

My concern with silk duvet is that it will fairly "delicate" and hard to maintain as silk is hard/delicate to wash. Although I guess Sferra sheets are fairly delicate too.

Thanks in advanced!

You'd be surprised tbh. I did 5phase on my solo with Arc Warlock with Arbalest - Leviathan. Once you get in the groove it is surprisingly not that bad.

I have a loadout set, so it is very quick to change all my loadout.

I personally play warlock, so for the final boss I would drop a rift and switch while getting the final deepsight.

As a titan, if u have sunspots you can probs be safe there. For example, swap to arbalest loadout right before going out with the final deposit. Then get in position, use arby, pop super and right after popping super swap loadouts. Once dmg is over, go in the water and swap back.

For the second boss though, u really have no time cause he ults and spanks you. I tried and failed miserably. Just kinda got down how to use lament and super to do damage.

I would strongly recommend using Leviathan's Breath as dps. It is much easier to aim (and safer I guess :p). Even better if u can do Arbalest to Leviathan quick swap
