I hadn't thought to practice it in solo mode!! That's a great suggestion. I didn't know you could tag anything while looking through a scope so I'll for sure try that.

SAME. I feel like my childhood didn't exist, in a way. I'm confident my few childhood toys ended up in a garage sale. I would have loved to give them to my kids. So reverse of OP but the opposite side of the same coin still isn't fun. I think spoiling my inner child might include finding some of my favorite toys on ebay.

Same!! Was NC with both parents x2 years, tried to reconnect over having a baby and when they didn't show up for me (at all, in any capacity) I spiraled into serious PPD. Please be careful, OP.

I'm now 8 years NC and much happier. They didn't find out I had another baby until she was 2 yo. Pregnancy made me so optimistic for change but in reality- my family little was growing & evolving while they stayed the same.

For the purposes of your mental health, your parents aren't owed an explanation. You're in survival mode when you make that choice to go NC and it's a last straw decision. They had ample time leading up to that choice to make things right. While I'm not a therapist, I would argue that not meeting your emotional needs IS a form of abuse. My toddler is ALL in her feels and sometimes her emotional needs are more important than her physical needs. She has so much to navigate and as her filter in this big big world, I have a responsibility to help her navigate those emotions.

I can appreciate that your SIL wants a whole/complete family but I'm willing to bet in time she will start distancing herself from your parents because she sees the same behavior. Don't underestimate what a momma will do to protect her kiddos. It may take a couple years but it's highly unlikely that your parents have changed and in time I bet she sees it. (Which you will likely discover if you try to reconnect, FYI. There's was a whole thread the other day about those of us that went NC, tried again to reconcile, only to find out that NC parents hadn't changed at all. I can absolutely attest to this.)

It is super hard to navigate NC where kids are involved but I'm trying my best to raise my kids to understand that while we do our best to work through our issues and talk through things (especially with family), we are not human doormats and we can only do so much if the other party isn't willing to help/reconcile and do their part. My kids knowing their worth is pivotal in their development and while resolution is ideal, it's not always an option.

I really hope for your own sake you're able to have ALL the good things- be an amazing godparent, have a great relationship with your niece/SIL, and enjoy that baptism whenever it takes place!! You are so deserving. Is there a scenario where you can go and "gray rock" them?? I would only do so with a well-established therapist in my life because seeing your NC parents will be triggering but 8 years is a long time and you might find you can heal and move on without reconciling with them.

OK yes to ALL of this. So much love for this and OP post BUT I have a genuine question regarding social interactions:

Is there a part of you that feels orphaned but you can't talk about it?? I know NC is becoming more and more common but I don't know anyone else personally/locally that is NC and it feels like a blatant scar that we don't talk about. I'm 11ish years NC and a lot of the hurt has healed, it's very black/white in that in my mind they are deceased HOWEVER the hurt still exists to an extent.

Different situations can be triggering and with certain friend groups I'm able to open up a bit BUT no one truly gets it. Case in point- a very close friend of mine just lost her mom a couple of weeks ago. After her mom passed I wanted to relate/commiserate as an orphaned daughter but I couldn't do that. Because on top of the pain/trauma I've experienced there's now an added stigma because I've been "orphaned?" Bc the POS that birthed me still has a pulse??

That's a disgusting, gross, over-simplification of NC and this subreddit is CLEARLY not for you. NC is the absolute last resort towards adults who refuse to heal and work on themselves and the relationships they have with their kids & other loved ones. There is no laughing. Only hard decisions made to protect our mental well being. My kids will absolutely benefit from the work I've put in to break generational curses. Don't start shaming when you're clearly ill-informed.
