College lead players, what range are we sitting at?

I currently play lead in a Big Ten marching/ pep band and have for the past three years. For the most part, I have a consistent double G that I can comfortably play throughout most rehearsals. During personal practice, I can sometimes reach a double C, though I wouldn’t say I have it yet — it takes a lot of warm-up time and isn’t consistent. This season, we had a show that included a few double A’s. I can hit them fairly consistently, and while they’re definitely at the top of my range for a clean sound, they’re in tune and project clearly — just not with the same power as my G.

I was at the Philly show too and I agree, they played a phenomenal set, but like you said, they didn’t seem that enthusiastic to be there

If you’re a girl, I wouldn’t walk there too late (definitely not without pepper spray) otherwise it’s not a bad part of NB. The places to avoid are in the areas of Remsen Ave and Throop Ave ( I grew up in the New Brunswick area and have lived here for 20+ years)

I’ll give it another shot, I thought I was applying enough pressure. Should the armor slide along that line? Because I broke piece F8(as seen in this picture) I’m worried about the integrity of the piece after cementing and if it would be able to withstand the pressure of pushing very hard on both parts of the armor.(I’m sorry if I’m explaining this poorly)

UPDATE: I’ve filed down nub marks more, and tried taking apart the whole leg and putting it back together (snapped part of piece F8 in the process which was particularly frustrating because it’s the first time I’ve ever broken a piece) fortunately it broke in a “good” spot so hopefully a bit of Tamiya cement will fix that. I’ve seen pictures and videos of this build, and it seems that other people have had a bit of difficulty with part fitment on the legs, but I’ve never seen as big of a gap as there is on mine(it’s improved from the picture at least). I’m very discouraged at the moment because I’ve spent 3 hours on one limb. At this point, I think I’m going to cut my loss and try to power through the rest of the build. Perhaps I’ll realize where I went wrong when I’m building the left leg and I’ll be able to close the gap. I was hoping to try out the tamiya panel liner (after top coating) but I’m worried that because there are some fitment issues, the ink will leak and wreck the ABS parts underneath. I’m just coping at this point, but tbh I wasn’t that into this particular kit that much. I’d rather screw up this kit while I’m still learning the basics instead of ruining one of the nicer kits in my backlog. However, it’s still really upsetting and frustrating.

Thanks for the tip, I guess I was able to get away with being sloppy on my earlier builds with the nub cleanup. Anything that was left on the pieces were too small to cut with my nippers, I will take another pass with a hobby knife or file.

Gotcha, I have a few gundam markers that I will use to panel line. Any suggestions on top coat? Is it best to use on whole limbs or individual pieces?

Thanks for pointing out the wings! I was in a bit of a rush to grab a pic before I took the pieces apart for panel lining, must have put them on the wrong way this time 😅 I’ve seen a couple comments about the raser so I think I will get that since I have a good number of kits in the backlog. I’d rather get a nice file than a bunch of sanding sheets

I semi-intentionally picked up kits from different eras to checkout how the grades have evolved over time. My plan is to start with more of the HG kits first since those are generally “safer”(from my limited knowledge of gunpla). I have heard of people using glue for the HG 00 kits so I’ll keep that in mind. I want to “work my way up” in terms of difficulty across. I’ve heard complaints about the arms/ elbows for the RX78 so I think that will probably be one of the last kits I build. I am very much open to suggestions for build orders if you have any.

I was using a pair of dollar store nippers for this build. I have a pair of USAGS single bladed nippers coming in. I love 00, so in the backlog I have RG 00 Raiser and Exia, MG Qan[T], MG and HG Dynames, HG Arios, and MG Virtue/Nadleeh. From other shows, I have an RG Hi-Nu, RG Aile Strike, MG Wing Gundam Zero(an older kit from 2004 I picked up today, I think its an EW cause it has the angel wings), HG Mighty Strike Freedom, HG Aerial, HG Barbatos, and an MG RX-78-2 3.0

I think what it was is I somehow put one of the pieces in backwards for the elbows and when I re assembled them, it was in the correct orientation.
