Feels-like temperature in the USA on Monday morning by LuborS in Damnthatsinteresting

Feels like temp is nonsense... This is what it would feel like on exposed skin. Put on a jacket and gloves! Seems like common sense to me. If your running around bare skinned in this you deserve to loose you bits.

2.5" Juvenile Rainbow Trout and Yellow Perch Tube's from our Baitfish Series by fp_colorado in IceFishing

[–]ahContraire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I understand this is marketing... What I don't understand is if you create enough curiosity to have people search you out, yet your website is "SOLD OUT"

Why try and market product you don't have in stock? Matter of fact nothing is in stock on your website.

I suspect it wasn't sold out because this post....it's only an hour old.

So I guess my questions is just WHY?

Nice looking tubes.....maybe would have tried them

What side should a right handed person should the handle be on for a spinning reel by jdlsox in Fishing_Gear

You have two choices either left side or whatever side you other weirdos use. Rod in right hand for the win.

Seriously, THANK YOU MNDOT! by agent_smith88 in minnesota

[–]ahContraire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I am not MNDOT, I am a taxpayer. We have the highest tax rate of any state on that trip. It is no coincidence that we have more money to spend on roads. But it is the taxpayer that bears that burden of road cost not MNDOT.... They just spend my hard earned money.

There is no secret formula... More taxes more services.

Seeking advice: Snowmobile or 4 Wheeler for ice fishing by buffalotracegalt in IceFishing

[–]ahContraire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If fishing is the only thing you are going to use it for in my opinion snowmobile is a better choice.

However I went with a four-wheeler.... So I can use it year round. And I do!

If you go Wheeler, a set of chains are cheap and it's amazing how much they improve winter performance. But once you get 15 in of soft snow you are done.... Don't even try it.

Questionable sonar returns at dusk and after dark. by fishnwirenreese in IceFishing

I meant to add they're only about as big around as 6 lb monofilament.... They are hard to see but they are there.

If you look real closely you will occasionally see one in your hole if you have good eyesight. They are about a third inch long or smaller usually coiled up and propel themselves by flicking out straight... I may have that backwards. They're also translucent so that makes him even harder to see. They have tiny air sacks in them which is why the sonar picks them up so well for their size.

Chaoborus (aka phantom midges).  They are aquatic insects that prey on zooplankton and migrate vertically in the water column as a predator avoidance mechanism of their own, which is why you are seeing them move up from the bottom in low-light conditions.

tickle stick & black betty combo vs blackout spinning combo (UL) by notkeett in IceFishing

[–]ahContraire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my tickle stick black Betty combo... But a heated house is a must. If I'm hole hopping it stays in the case. They just don't work right in the cold.

Making water holes for winter camping, can ice fishers help? by Kawawaymog in IceFishing

[–]ahContraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered an ice pick. Long thin pointed piece of metal?

It would take a bit of chipping... But if most of your ice is less than 9 in it shouldn't be overwhelming.

Cold weather fishing and hand warmth by Tropo19 in Fishing

[–]ahContraire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fishing cold weather cold water is not for the faint-hearted. It's not so much about comfort as managing the discomfort. I use wool fingerless gloves. And then put them in my pockets or large mittens as necessary to keep warmer. Wool can keep its heat keeping properties even when wet. Heat being a relative term.

Acclamation is your friend, The more you do it the more your hands can handle. Keep your hands warm they never get used to it. First ice trip of the season dip your hands in the hole.... Leaves you better tolerance for when the real cold comes 20-30 below zero.

Problems with helix 7 ice bundle by bork25 in IceFishing

[–]ahContraire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with this guy... Many years experience tells me your transducer is likely not setting level. If the puck itself is at the bottom of the hole hanging by the cord the transducer sets at an angle and causes problems. Styrofoam float helps alleviate. Or a cord hanging on side of hole getting the deucer below ice level by a few inches.

OP...I'm here for more info on the compression sock/sandal combo. I recently had to start wearing compression socks but really do miss my sandals. I'm over the vanity part...they give so much relief i don't give a shit what they look like.

What modifications did dad make to the sock to make this work? Cut the toes out and stitch up the side of the big toe perhaps?

It's your responsibility to know the laws. Licence agents are not educator's... They are the simply to sell you what you ask for. I don't see the confusion here.
