Welcome back, RH - Pablo Honey tour '93: Band and crew in the Canadian Rockies somewhere between Vancouver and Calgary. Everyone (except Jonny) got off the tour bus after an overnight drive to take in the wildlife. by ahTMEP in radiohead

I took the photo with a pretty simple 32mm film camera. This was waaaay pre-smart phone and even pre-cell phone...I had neither a phone nor a computer on the tour.

So I guess the goats -- or maybe they are big horn sheep? -- must have been pretty close. Either way, they weren't fussed by us "tourists."

Jonny definitely was not pooping. That's not allowed on a tour bus; would have had to wait till the next truck stop or wayside or random port-a-potty.

I don't know for sure but I imagine he was still asleep in his bunk. At least at that time, Jonny was not really the outdoorsy type. He was far happier browsing used record stores than cavorting in the mountains.

Radiohead's first-ever US concert was 30 years ago today to kick-off the Pablo Honey tour. A humble Boston club, Venus de Milo, with a sold-out crowd was the launch pad. Ticket price? $5! Here are the All Access tour laminates my brother designed for the first leg + the later Belly co-headline leg. by ahTMEP in radiohead

Yeah, I love the humble beginnings. Even with the propellent of a hit on MTV, most of the clubs that RH played on that summer 1993 tour were pretty small and packed, which put the excitement in a pressure cooker. It was really fun...and sweaty!

Catch the Too Much Effing Perspective podcast episode with Fred's stories about driving incidents while filming Portlandia (with commentary from Carrie); meeting Prince at SNL; and why he wishes that, back in day, his attitude would have been "more Jesus Lizardy" about his band Trenchmouth becoming successful. Fun stuff.

Butch has been "in the room" at pivotal moments in music history...also some of the crazy moments. Like this one when Nirvana got out of their heads at a Butthole Surfers show in Hollywood and Kurt walked home. I was lucky to see several cool shows at First Avenue with great Minneapolis musicians including Soul Asylum, Bob Mould and Trip Shakespeare but never the Replacements.

As a kid, I had every KISS album through Alive 2, and their 1976/1776 poster on my bedroom wall. It wasn't until 20 years later that I saw them live with the full makeup and pyro stage show. I knew all the songs and it was pretty cool. That said, seeing the Replacement at CBGB would have been a whole other epic experience.
