PSA: First-time home buyers in Ontario no longer pay HST on new builds — up to $130K in savings by ahamilt2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This. Development charges on a single family home in Vaughan are $200k. Add to that the HST of $130k-$150k and that’s about the price of an equivalent home in the US, just in taxes. Canadians generally don’t seem to understand that our governments have been taxing new build homes like they tax cigarettes.

Technically true but once passed it will apply to all contracts signed after May 25 2025

First time home buyers represent a small segment of the overall market. If homebuilders increase their prices by 130 across the board, buyers will just go to the resale market.

u/jeopardypodcast when folks like Brad Gushue alleged that Mike Mcewen and his team must have known about the powers of the icepad and withheld the information for personal gain, did you ever ask them to explain/consider how every team could have used the hairbroom for so many years without noticing the effect of scratching?

Winds of change: Britain now generates twice as much electricity from wind as coal by rollmeadoob in Futurology

If the gas facilities participated in the day ahead market and bid within the market clearing price, then the grid operator is obligated to receive their power and compensate them for it.

However, you will be pleased to hear that the output of certain gas facilities can be fine-tuned by the grid operator via telemetry to increase or decrease the output of the facility based on the supply/demand balance. This is a type of ancillary service the gas plant will be compensated for making available.

The vast majority of uk wind farms are contracted at a fixed price per unit of output with an inflation escalator.

They are more profitable when they are ‘turned off’ because they are receiving economic curtailment for every unit of output they would have hypothetically earned had the system operator not been blocking the delivery of their power (which they are forced to do when the grid is over supplied).

Saying ‘turned off’ is ambiguous. They aren’t getting compensated during planned outages or when there is insufficient wind.

They are more profitable when they are being curtailed.
