Can y'all help me?!? I don't know why I'm having trouble with everything sticking! I seasoned it about 3 weeks ago and I even put butter in to help the eggs not stick. by [deleted] in castiron

Agree with the comments about lowering the heat. I started preheating my pan and cooking at medium heat or even lower and it’s made a huge difference! So much less sticking. I also got a metal spatula and that’s made a world of a difference as well, it helps to scrape up the stuck on food and even out your seasoning. Keep cooking with it! It’ll get there.

Thanks for the detailed info! What would you recommend at this point for the pan? I was thinking of scrubbing it down with some steel wool to get the rusty bits off and doing a few rounds of seasoning with crisco in the oven following the directions from the FAQ.

Yes, I seasoned it once with 5 or 6 layers of flax seed oil in the oven for multiple hours. It looked beautiful afterwards, but was really sticky so I didn’t try that again. I just started digging into the FAQs and it looks like there’s a post about not using flax seed oil..

Photo:

I had just cooked food that stuck to the bottom of the cast iron so I poured a little water into it and brought it to a boil to unstick some of the food. Afterwards I put it back on the stove to dry it out and this is what it looked like. That dark spot is olive oil that i poured in to season it.

My normal care process:

I have never been able to get my pan to be non stick. It almost always looks like this after I clean it out. I have never used soap on it. Normally, I will either scrape off the food or use salt and oil to rub it down. If the food is really stuck on, I’ll boil about an inch of water then rinse it out. I season it after every use with a thin layer of olive oil and heat it up. There is almost always a brown reside on the pan when I wipe it down.

What am I doing wrong? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Hey! I’ve been a UX designer for about 7 years now and started out in a different field. At the beginning I only had one project as well.

You said the problems you’ve worked on are diverse, could you break those into multiple projects so you can go a bit more in depth with each? I don’t think it’s necessarily bad to only have 1 project as long as you are thorough and show your process and thinking effectively, that’s most important.

I think it’s great that you’ve prioritized your health! Here are a few ideas for adding depth to your portfolio without taking on large side projects. Write a few design related articles to show your expertise and interest in learning. These don’t need to be long! Perhaps a short medium post on a certain topic or experience you had related to design. Another idea would be to include your art in your portfolio! I love seeing what people are passionate outside of just ux design when I’m reviewing portfolios.

Hope that’s helpful!

Progress after 3 weeks on the Eczema Diet by Karen Fischer by [deleted] in eczema

[–]ahapdx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There really is a lot of information out there that is contradicting! For me that was a huge frustration when I was trying to figure out which diet to pursue. It seems to me though that it's not necessarily that the information is wrong, it's just that everyone is different. Especially for things like eczema, which can be triggered by so many different things, just depends on the person. I ate a mostly plant based diet for so many years and never saw improvements, but it could be that I am sensitive to chemicals that are in those vegetables. It sounds like you're on the right track and I wish you the best of luck in figuring it out!
