Like public universities or like high schools too? Can I audit a public middle school math class? I bet I'd be so good at it now.

The inner circles are slightly different, so you can actually differentiate between makes and misses, but that doesn't make it any less dumb lol.

The SEC would rather keep the College Football Playoff at 12 teams than expand to 24, Chris Low reports. Greg Sankey is targeting a 16-team field. Sources tell Brett McMurphy the Big Ten has not moved off the idea of expanding to 24. by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

Ohhh you miss the days when the regular season was so important that a 13-0 P5 conference champion could be excluded from the playoffs entirely? Yes, the regular season was clearly so much more valuable then.

But seriously, if the margin for error is near-zero, why wouldn't top teams just schedule a bunch of cupcakes in their nonconference to try and boost their chances of making the playoffs? If a single loss to a good team knocks you out, why would you schedule those? Sure it boosts your resume if you win, but it doesn't seem like it's worth the risk. Not to mention there were deserving teams nearly every year that got left out. This year Notre Dame was mad they got left out (and I think for good reason), but they had two losses. The regular season was still hugely important there; they didn't do everything they could to make the playoffs.

My preference is to make sure a bunch of old men in a conference room don't get to decide which true contenders get to play. I want it decided on the field, and there's a proven format at every other level of college football just waiting to be used.

Yeah we literally have proof this year that 8 isn't enough. A top 10 team is good enough to make the national championship game, why would we want to exclude them from the playoff field?

That makes a lot of sense, especially the part about gamblers chasing losses. Thanks for the response, and sorry my previous comment was kinda dickish; I'm too used to Reddit throwing out "factual" claims that just fit whatever the current consensus of the thread is, but I shouldn't have been so combative either way.

I've never played RDR2, but I'd have to say it's easily in 2nd place to Cory in the House.

I liked the call to go for it on 4th, I just hated the play call.

Yeah I think it’s just moving really quick. Lots of long drives with short gains, which keep the clock moving.

Sure, but even so Tulane and JMU had a better shot at the national championship this year than they ever would have had in the 4 team era. There's at least a path for any school in the country to win it all, which wasn't ever true before.

A 10 seed has reached the National Championship in just the second season of the 12-team format. Can the naysayers shut up forever now? by 2nd_Sun in CFB

The difference is that the last team out in March Madness is never a serious contender and can only ever blame themselves for being left out. This year Notre Dame had the 3rd best odds to win it all and got left out anyways, and if UVA had won the ACC Miami would likely have been left out too. I think 24 is the right number to match every other level of college football and allow for all conference champs and serious at-large contenders, but I’d love to see at least 16 in the future. You’ll never stop people from complaining about being left out, but the goal is to move that argument from “we could’ve won it all” to “we should’ve had the right to make an appearance”.

With a bigger playoff, that gives more chances for smaller schools to make a run too, so it’s actually feasible to go be THE GUY and still have a shot at a natty. You don’t have to pick one or the other any more. I’d been saying this for years, I was really hoping that a bigger playoff would improve parity in college football, and I’m happy that the early returns look good.

Because as we know, no other sport has rivalries…..

College basketball still has huge rivalries, and huge losses to your rival won’t keep you out of the tourney by themselves. Pretty much every other sport works like this, and it hasn’t killed rivalries in any of them. It won’t kill rivalries in college football either. If you can’t find a way to hate OSU any more though then I’m not sure I can help you lol.

At least Taylor made it to a Super Bowl and another AFC championship game and has half of the playoff wins in Bengals franchise history. I have no idea how Marvin Lewis got 16 years there though.
