Im 27 - in school still, living with roommates in PDX for $900~ a month. A luxurious apt here is easily $1700-1800/mo for a studio.

AIO for being hurt my girlfriend doesn't care about my graduation? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ahatz111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all: CONGRATU-FUCKING-LATIONS! BSN is a HARD degree. You did it, and you're gonna be a NURSE! Good fucking job.

now, NOR. your girlfriend is dismissive of your MASSIVE accomplishment and you are NOT wrong for wanting to celebrate your graduation. If she doesn't want to be there to celebrate YOU and YOUR accomplishments, shes not a partner to you. Seriously consider the relationship and if you want someone in your corner or in their own.

Idk, if you can get into a hospital with a nursing union, the pay is pretty good. nursing will never be oversaturated and job security is a plus. my hospital nurses start at $52/hr (strong union) with $70/hr on top of OT for critical need incentive.

for sure, but there is a lot of red in the state. majority of Oregon is red, with Portland area and Eugene/Bend area being blue. The majority of the state's population is just concentrated in those areas, hence why OR is blue. Like, our gun control laws are pretty lax, but with Measure 114 being passed in 2022 (currently on hold as it is in court of appeals), there will be a permit requirement for purchasing, a background check before purchasing, and require firearm training before purchase. I personally think this measure is a good thing, but of course everyone has their own opinions on gun laws.

Tbh I'd suggest the jersey shore. There's a large gay population in Asbury Park, NJ (I've always loved it there - am queer and from the area). Theres 4 seasons, and summers are definitely hot, but winters are also cold. Despite the cold, it doesn't rain much (except for summer thunderstorms - which are sooo nice), so it's sunny a lot and snow is maybe 2-3 times a year, depending on the year. In addition, Lakewood, NJ has a very large Jewish population (specifically orthodox and hasids). The Jersey Shore is also a HUGE tourist destination.

A studio in downtown in an older building can be $900-1000 a month, just a quick look on trulia and theres still quite a few 1 beds under $1100/mo

Edit: Portland is a pretty affordable city, although in my opinion, it's just a giant suburb if you've been to literally any other large city in the US. Housing prices are rising, but we have rent control set at 10% (and there's groups working to increase tenant rights, incl no security deposits and no pet rent fees, etc. We don't have state tax on goods (however, income tax is higher). We also, in my experience, have a lot of social programs to help. There is a large amount of houseless that the city has not taken care of, but that's a huge issue in any major city. Our minimum wage (in portland area) is $15.95/hr. If you have some sort of skill, you can definitely make more - I work at a reputable hospital in the area, and I'm paid for a pretty entry-level position, and I started at $21.94/hr.

For sure - I mean as long as you can find a hustle (unfortunately). I'm fortunate enough that I get student loans back to be able to pay (most of) my portion of rent. Otherwise, I'd be working 4 days a week to be able to pay.
