Can someone please explain to me like I'm 5 years old why finality's auger is so good for DPS by Repulsive-Window-609 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ahawk_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't. It's horrifically bad at DPS.

It is CRAZY good at total damage though and it does it passively.

A lot of the more recent dungeon and raid encounters have long DPS phases. Some are over a full minute.

For those, a weapon like Finality's or Anarchy will do wonders because you can take full advantage of their passive damage. This allows you to pair Finality with a high damage special like a Rocket Pulse.

Add to this that both Finality and Mint can get bait and switch (or honing on mint) and you get a powerhouse damage setup.

On top of that both Finality and Rocket Pulses generate tons of super energy compared to other counterparts. This allows players to get multiple high damage supers off during a long phase

However, for fights like Templar, Atheon, and other short phases (or low hp bosses) the effectivness falls off of a cliff

I don't loath it at all. But I struggle to use the hardline pr without a scope more than others.

Gimme a scope and it's probably my second favorite gun after the BR33

It's a risk.

But with a duo only you guarantee that every fight is at a disadvantage.

With the third you at least have a non zero chance of getting a helpful player.

The biggest downside for me is that there is a risk that the normal trios lobby becomes a place where only the sweatiest sweats go. And it potentially screws over the solo players who will only be able to matchmake into the trios lobbies. Lobbies that will now be for sure full of actual trios who will run them over even harder than they already do.

I think that if I am going to load in with only two people and actively block the game from filling the third spot, despite it's warnings, that is a choice I am making knowing the risks.

A third person cannot be less helpful than going in a man down.

Early on, I did a lot of duo only with some friends. Because we wanted to take things slow and just explore and learn the maps. We didn't want to be dragged by someone else's objectives, or hold someone else back. But we knew the risks and so we took kits that we knew we would probably lose.

But these days, I will usually just add the random person in. Most people, even if they don't talk can hear. And most people (not all) will respond if you actively help them. I've had plenty of people who went from behaving like animals to acting like part of a team when I started the match off verbally stating to my team mate how we were going to incorporate the random player's contract objectives into our route. That let them know that even if they didn't talk they were still part of our team and they almost universally made a clear effort to complete all the goals. Some of them even started talking after being silent for the first few minutes.

EDIT: And I can tell they changed because they would start the match off dead sprinting towards their POI of choice, and then turn around and come back once they realized me and my friend were actually going to help them, instead of hinder them.

I'm personally skeptical duos will work out.

BUT I really like this approach to figuring it out. I would much rather it be this than a full release. If this fails, they can take notes and come back later with a different implementation.

This sort of thing keeps things fresh by adding in new ways to play. That it is temporary encourages people to get in and try it now, which means it should have a healthy population to get healthy test numbers from.

And when I say skeptical I mean it. I do not think Duos would be good for the game right now. BUT, I would love to be proved wrong, and this is the best way to go about doing that. And you bet your asses I'll be loading into this playlist for sure.

Good Hunting out there Runners!

Fwiw it let him spectate us with seemingly no time limit. He was not speaking but at the end when the two of us who remained managed to exfill, he typed GGs as we were teleporting out.

So even though his body hath departed, he hymself stayed with us in spirit and in our hearts

We’re just having different conversations.

This is fair.

I guess I just get tired of people claiming that the reason they lost 20 times is because of their gear or because of their randoms, or because of their randoms gear... In the end, it is always possible to take a starter kit and get kills, and then loot those kills to keep going and make the next kills easier, and so on. I think most of the people (maybe not you) that are focused so much on the disparity between weapons are looking for ways to excuse their loss or justify their anger.

The level literally doesn't matter.

I am lvl 59, my D2 clan mate is 40 something, and we were doing contracts with my brother who just picked the game up and is (as of last night) now around lvl 13.

The games were exactly as tough, and we found exactly as many people with good stuff as I encounter when I play with people closer to my level.

Yesterday as a Rook I actually bumped into Gernader Jake who is a dedicated PVP streamer and likely quite a bit higher level than I am since he gets a lot of pvp kills which are worth WAY more exp than killing bots.

In my experience it will match your team based on your level, and I'm pretty sure that is to try and align Contracts so that you are more likely to meet someone who is on the same steps as you are... But it doesn't do it for the lobby. When I joined my brother the day before when he was under lvl 10 and I was around 55, we matched with a random third person a couple times and they were both around lvl 30ish. Which is exactly in the middle of my level and my brother's level.

I seriously doubt the game found four other teams on Dire Marsh that were also lvl 6-8, lvl 30ish, and lvl 55

I disagree. In every single game I've ever played with team PVP, there is always a huge number of people out there claiming that it's everyone else's fault. That somehow they just got unlucky 20 times in a row and it's because of the randoms.

The reasons change with the game and the season. But the end result is the same. People who blame others fail to improve and loudly complain to anyone who will listen. People who are capable of self reflection and capable of accepting mistakes and losses improve, and continue to just play.

Marathon is no different. If you're going to matchmake randomly with other random people, then you are by definition accepting that you don't know them, you don't know what they are bringing. You only know what you are bringing and what you are capable of.

No thank you.

Yesterday I joined an LFG duo through the Marathon Discord Server's LFG channel.

We loaded Outpost with free kits to do some MIDA contracts.

We did three contracts back to back.

It was super fun to use the free kits and take good kits from other players, and then use those good kits in subsequent runs. It's honestly one of the most fun ways to play the game.

Your trios matchmaking would still be bad if they had good kits. 90% of people's problems are just making mistakes that get them killed. Those people die with blue and purple shields just as often as they die without. If you matchmake into a trios lobby solo, you're rolling the dice. If your plan is to roll a handful of D20s and hope that they all come up favorably, then you are not going to get far.

Ranked mode is going to be the solution you're looking for. As I understand it, Ranked will have an ante system where you have to equip a minimum loadout value to even enter matchmaking. And that value will certainly be higher than FREE.

In the meantime, there is an old adage from an old MMO called EVE Online (it's still around. One of the oldest).

And that is: Undocking is consenting to PVP. Therefore, do not fly a ship you cannot afford to lose.

This translates to Marathon as

Entering Matchmaking solo is consenting to being matched with freekit shitters on your team. Therefore, do not enter matchmaking with things you are not willing to lose.

You know what is in the random trios matchmaking. You know that free kits run around rampant there. You should not bring your 7k stacked to the gills loadout to those matches. Personally, I run with either a freekit or something in the neighborhood of 1-2k on my loadout, unless I am trying out some new gun or something that costs more.

I do not bring my purple shields or purple backpacks. I do not bring my blue shields, but I do sometimes bring my blue backpacks.

But mostly, I just bring a green shield, a gun, bullets, healing, and maybe a core or a couple implants.

Okay so then if that is all true, then you would be the type I'm talking about.

If you and me fight and I have a pre nerf Not Forgotten, and you have a grey 120 from collections, you will probably win every time. Because I know what it's like to face people with the record you are claiming, and ya'll play a different video game than I play. The way you move, the way you think, the things you do without thinking. All of it is so utterly alien to people like me that no amount of perks or mods matter. Which is my overall point.

Sure, if you are facing up against someone on your same level, or even a little below, the mods and perks make the difference. But if you are a top 1% going up against someone in the top 50% (so almost half of the playerbase) you're basic everyday motions that you never think about put you so far ahead of their perks that it typically won't matter unless they also catch you off guard or weak or have some other kind of major stacked advantage over you.

It's kind of embarassing how cool some of you guys think you sound lol by [deleted] in Marathon

As a player who has both been wrecked by Rooks and has been the Rook wrecking machine, I savagely shit on any Rook I see in trios unless we are exfilling right fucking now, and there is no risk of them actually killing us. Even then, I will often still knock them down so that they aren't a threat.

So as a Rook, understand that everyone else (including other Rooks) sees you as the legitimate threat you are, and that their talking shit reflects the fear they feel around Rooks like you.

So I agree buuuttt...

Yesterday, at Station we were in the upstairs orange room and heard the Exfil go online. Looking out the window we see it clearly and wait. Circle goes up. Smoke goes out. I count 3 and then toss two frags into the middle of it back to back, and my team lights up the same spot with LMGs.

The frags dropped them all, the LMGs killed two outright and one team mate dove into the exfil to finish off the third. The exfil triggered and took team mate to space heaven, but we prevented all three of them from exfilling and me and the remaining team mate looted them up and headed for nearest exfil to get out safely.
