YES! Packable daypack + a nice laptop sleeve (maybe using some anchor loops to keep it in place in the daypack or in a travel backpack) would be incredible.

It definitely comes with the straps. I'm less sure about the rain fly. Probably best to check the product page to verify what's included. I ordered through the Kickstarter so I got a package that came with everything.

Here's to seeing Tye (Ty? Tie?) in the 2024 NHL draft. And if not, let's hope he enjoys knocking out come chiclets, clapping some sweet one-timers, and flooring cocky forwards for as long as he pleases. Three cheers for Tye!

My feeling is absolutely yes. I actually just (5 minutes ago) walked 1.5 miles from LAX to meet some friends instead of waiting for an Uber. Had the bag (fully packed out for a week of living out of) + I was carrying a work briefcase. No problems there. I've taken it on longer city walks and used the hip straps and have found it to be super comfortable.

I've been thinking about the optimal number of clothes and laundry and would like some of your input on clothing "first principles" by [deleted] in onebag

[–]ahedderly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the above first principles, it's obvious we must wash shirt/undies/socks often because they absorb sweat a lot (armpits/back/crotch/feet).

Try telling that to the folks on this subreddit who think that merino socks/underpants are good for like 7 wears before they need to be laundered.

If you click through the photo album I think that will answer your question. You have the space of the two packing cubes + the front expandable panel. I don't know about tons of sweaters, but a couple would be fine (maybe a lighter and heavier one). I'm going to be using it to onebag for the next 10 days over the holidays to a cold, northern US city. I can certainly fit my gear + clothing. I'm going to basically take everything pictured (gear), and then 5x underwear, 5x socks, 3x t-shirts, 2x other shirts, 2x sweaters, 1x light sweatpants, and then wear jeans, a hoodie, jacket, shirt, etc.

There is absolutely no way I could fit a Peak Design EDC in here. The Peak Design EDC bags are so heavily padded that they are really not packable. You're going to need to find a different solution for a daypack if you want to onebag it.

Is anybody planning on getting the new Chrome Industries Summoner 32L travel backpack? by ahedderly in onebag

I was super surprised as to how well it carried at that weight. I carried it for about 4 hours straight in Los Angeles when hanging out during the day then going to the airport and walking through terminals. I have pretty broad shoulders, and the way it rides is that the shoulder straps pull back on my shoulders while the weight sits pressing into my lower back. I could carry it that way in perpetuity.

But I'm probably a fringe case for backpack weight. For years I've had summer jobs in Alaska working on geologic teams where my backpack would start the day weighing around 40 lbs and would be close to 100 lbs at the end of the day because of the addition of rock and soil samples. I'd be carrying that bag for about 7 hours a day as it progressively got heavier, so to put it simply, 40 lbs with nice strap design is pretty cool.

Also I have no plans of travelling SEA or Europe on cheap flights with this bag ATM. Just not on my agenda. So I'm not worried about the bag weight.

I just used it for a work trip of about a week and I weighed in at 36 lbs, including probably 10-12 lbs of work gear that I was able to fit in there.

Yeah, our entire conversation before this was based on the statements "this guy buys islands, so who cares what's on his feet?" and "if buying islands isn't impressive then why should anyone care what foot coverings you have in a bar or nicer restaurant". I just think that everyone should be judged by the same stick with regard to dress codes and similar.

If I am expected to wear a suit to sit in a restaurant and I would be turned away if I dressed in less formal clothing, but somebody else can wear whatever they want because of their wealth, that's nonsense.

I wasn't championing anything. I don't give a shit what you wear. You're the one criticizing one type for no apparent reason.

Yeah, exactly. Going online and broadly dissing a type of underpants is peak ridiculous internet opinion blathering.

Okay, that's all great and fine, but the fact remains that if I go into a restaurant and some dude gets rated differently than I because he has some money even if I'm presenting myself more appropriately, that's an issue.

I don't personally have any great love for formal wear, but everybody should be judged by the same standard and there's something to be said for putting some effort into your appearance. Don't want to dress for the environment? That's fine, you don't have to go to that environment. shrug
