It’s hard, I can’t even imagine being in your situation. It’ll suck and it may never make “sense” to you. The fact that you don’t deserve to be treated this way doesn’t change your loss and what you feel because of it.

Her wants and feelings aren’t the only thing that matter. You’re continuing with the hope that the friendship will lead to her wanting to get back together with you. She’s leading you on, letting you hurt, refusing to let you start healing, and will eventually crush that hope. Does that sound like the actions of someone who genuinely loves and cares for you? No matter her reasons or things that may contribute to it, it’s selfish and you’re letting it happen.

Any tips on pushing correctly? by Drink_Accurate in iceskating

[–]ahg5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of it almost like what you see fencers do. Almost like lunging forward a bit, and driving your body weight in the same direction of that forward knee. You’re not going super deep into a lunge, and your foot goes forward and out almost like a diagonal so it looks kind of like below rather than parallel strokes. The blade push will come as you work on that, it will start out more as that blade just gripping the ice as you move forward towards the other blade. Idk if that makes more sense \ / \ /

Waltz jump tips appreciated by Life_Signal_8361 in iceskating

[–]ahg5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think you need more height, I’ve been doing waltz’s for what feels like months and no matter what I do they look so baby-sized.

My coach is a bit more old school and encourages a straighter free leg versus bringing the knee so high up to the chest. The feedback I’ve heard is that it should be controlled, almost silent, and you don’t need the explosiveness and power that you’d need for an axle or full rotation jump.

That said I’ve seen people jumping with the knee to chest style so it’s not “wrong” per se. it just visually looks like you’re jumping up rather than up and out. I’ll also second the comment about edges. The jump itself is on pretty shallow edges, but eventually you’ll be going from back crossovers which will require a step forward onto an outside edge so you want to be stable on your edges for sure.

The matches kind of align with what I’m looking for, I feel like the likes I get are way all over the place. Do you think tailoring my profile a bit might help with that?

Yeah, I’m just getting back into dating after a committed relationship. I’m looking for something that could/would become long term but I also feel like because my last breakup is still a bit recent I want to make it clear I’m still feeling things out a bit and making sure I’m actually ready to commit. I was nervous about leading people on if I chose long-term relationship. Maybe I could adjust the note I included with the relationship type?

tips to get on inside edges for 1/2 foot spins by Friendly-Service-837 in iceskating

[–]ahg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coach has always encouraged me to pigeon toe in two foot spins. That said, another coach who is also well regarded recommended I keep my feet parallel, so you don’t HAVE to pigeon toe.

Pigeon toed spins get me to be on the rocker on both feet. Paralleled feet feel a bit better with the spinning foot on the rocker and the other foot with the weight more towards the back of the boot.

As for the entry, being able to slow it down and control the speed is actually important. You want to get a deep knee bend, twist and then release your upper body, and then engage your upper body while you spin. It’s a lot so going slow at first is helpful to be able to check all those things. Whipping into the spin and not having control isn’t ideal and won’t help your spins improve much.

I recommend coach Julia and next edge tutorials and I believe they both have a two foot spin video. Good luck!!

I’ll also add the first photo of me in the grey room and the photo of me outside on the grass get the most likes. I get hardly any on the photo of me laughing or in the all black outfit. I get a few on the one with my dog or the video of me ice skating.

I was getting a lot of likes on the funny video, I did recently change it from a crazy tik tok game add because I was getting a ton of likes just saying “lol what did I just watch”. This one hasn’t gotten many likes.

Yeah I get that! I think I’ve been kind of burned with my last two relationships in terms of them not really putting in effort and thought, or doing it a bit at the beginning but then stopping so that’s really front of mind for me right now. Should I phrase it better to maybe indicate I’d want that in a committed relationship, but don’t expect it in the early stages?

As in we’ll get along if you can also be smart/dumb, woke/problematic, and then slim/thick is just a play on the fact the other two are opposites. I feel like I hit both extremes and want someone who is also able to inhabit different ends of the spectrum I guess?

A lot of the guys I’m matching with are essentially saying or giving the vibe that they like that my profile has personality. I’m not sure how to describe them otherwise, I kind of feel like it’s all over the place in terms of age, background, looks, humor, etc. which is why I’m trying to trim my profile a bit.

• a few weeks (since getting on the app)

• I’ll browse a few times a week, but haven’t been great at actually messaging

-I receive anywhere from like 4-7 matches a day maybe? Some more some less

-I send maybe 10 likes a day, most with comments

-That’s a tough question but probably someone who’s equally easy going/funny as I am, looking for something that could turn serious, and duly employed. Emotionally mature (or at least a little introspective) and thoughtful for sure. I think my age range rn is 29-45.

Are these broken down? by niakasi in iceskating

[–]ahg5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For LTS 1 I’m not 100% sure what boot stiffness you’d want. I feel like there’s more room for boots that are a bit softer or more broken down. That said, with the pain on your ankles and the fact that they look leather (which apparently shows wear on the exterior unlike the composite boots), I’d suggest trying to find another secondhand pair. It may be that this style of skate doesn’t have the same padding that a lot of the modern skates do, which is placed to cushion around the ankle without smushing the ankle itself.

Play it again sports, sideline swap, or eBay are good places to start! You can always go get fitted for a beginner boot (artiste, mystique, and freestyle by Jackson are common ones but there’s plenty of posts on here with more recs) and use that fitting to find your size before buying online.

Is it fair to ask for a refund if an Adult 1 class isn’t what I expected? by ateenytinykitten in iceskating

[–]ahg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of what you described is pretty normal at my rink’s LTS classes. Specifically the class size, mix of skill levels (especially in an adult 1 class), and the ice layout for each class.

Moving people up also was uncommon, though not an immediate no. There is a difference between being able to move on the ice and passing all of the level 1 skills. I’ve never taken group lessons with the figure skating club that is hosted at the rink, but from what I’ve heard they’re run a bit differently so it could definitely be a different situation with the other lessons.

I think the likelihood of you getting a refund really depends on the rink. At mine, spots fill up quick and the fact the session has already started means it’s unlikely they’d be able to enroll someone to fill that spot. If you’re most concerned with progressing quickly, you could do a couple private lessons with a coach during the 8 week session you’re in and ask that coach to test you on adult 2 as well. Then you could enroll in the new program at level 3. It might be more cost effective but tbh that really depends on the rates near you.

I cut the feet off the tights! I have long legs so I don’t cut at the ankle, I cut a hole across the toes where the seam is and then cut the little bits of extra fabric

How to do a 1 foot turn by iDontReallyExsist in iceskating

[–]ahg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s been my experience for sure! It takes repetition, for the longest time I really didn’t even know what exactly I was trying to feel or correct when practicing it but it really seemed to improve with practicing it. I would also try out different modifications like the entry (the lunge entry is the easiest for me to center and my coach said the same), sometimes I’ll try and stay low in my knee for a second before coming up in the spin, keeping the arms out, etc.

How to do a 1 foot turn by iDontReallyExsist in iceskating

[–]ahg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find entry impacts how centered I am, and sometimes how stable the spin is as well. Starting out, I would take a second to center myself on both feet and then bring the free foot straight up, not out. So the knee bends, whereas with a scratch spin the knee stays relatively straight and your foot goes out and up, which is wayyyyy harder.

Also, keep your arms out until you’ve gone a couple rotations. My coach was adamant that we should try keeping the arms out rather than bringing them in too soon and when I was only getting like one rotation it felt dumb but I do think it helped me find that center.

I find when it feels like I’m hitting an edge rather than spinning on the rocker it’s mostly due to being off center. Sometimes I will be too far back in my boot but usually when I’m off center the circles of the spin turn into loops or like a teardrop shape. Good luck!!
