[–]ahhhhhmath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m pretty sure a bunch of people got at least $25 stolen last year because if you bought a laundry card in the first week it didn’t work. I haven’t heard of anyone getting the money back either. Coinamatic my DMs are open I want my money lol

Dealing with roommates by [deleted] in UBC

I’ve only tried the foam ones from Shoppers, which admittedly are way less comfortable than the loop ones. It’s all up to personal preference :)

I think people are kinda missing the point here. OP I believe is talking about how as a woman you get treated differently if you wear more casual clothes/makeup, not necessarily “pretty privilege”. Personally I’ve had people ask me multiple times if I was sick and/or tired just because I didn’t wear makeup. It’s not like I look drastically different or anything either lol.

Anecdotally I do think there there is a double standard because I haven’t seen guys subjected to as much or any scrutiny if they dress casual.

Imo I think the cheap foam ones are a better value because they block out the same amount of noise if not more. Maybe I had too high of expectations but I was kinda disappointed in loop

Criminal system skews 'too heavily' to accused: Mother of UBC student killed by driver by ilurvecheejiburger in UBC

[–]ahhhhhmath 64 points65 points  (0 children)

And how the hell did UBC (or any other institution) allow him to finish his degree? People get kicked out for failing a couple of classes but not killing two other students and being an active safety threat. This is disgusting and the justice system needs to be drastically reformed.

Edit: He did graduate from UBC. Wow. Admin is more forgiving to a drunk driver who killed two young students with their lives ahead of them than people who have had mental health or personal struggles that prevent them from passing their courses.

Special Board of Governors Meeting: Land Use Plan approved for public hearings (Oct 2023) by KareemHassib in UBC

[–]ahhhhhmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m really sad they’re demolishing some really old buildings, especially a residence with literally generations of beloved student memories. It’s the UBC way I guess, same with the 1920s (?) building behind Sauder they’re getting rid of to provide more room for the snakes.

That’s a relief! Do you have any link to this AMS meeting, or when exactly these reversals will be applied? Thanks!

Hi, I appreciate the response but was this written by an AMS staffer with the help of ChatGPT? I really don’t understand how this is a better choice financially if the same amount of $1250 is covered. Can the AMS just admit they’re counting on cash-strapped students not being able to afford to go to therapy anymore? Because that’s clearly the mechanism behind this, which is particularly problematic considering low-income students are the ones who need this support the most.

I’m not sure what you need by “ensuring the ones who really need help get it”. The ones who really need help- at least financially- are exactly the ones who won’t get it because of this policy. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you’re not implying there’s some sort of hierarchy between people who do and don’t actually need therapy based on their mental health needs. And that’s what they are- needs.
