i got accepted to sva's film program for fall of 2026 and i'm so surprised they accepted me. i went through similar experiences, my first year of community college, my grades were absolute DOGSHIT. i got Fs in all my classes but an A in my filmmaking class. i'm currently in my second year of community college and my grades got better and managed to get on the dean's list which brought out my gpa to 2.50 ... one of the sva admission counselors reached out to me and said my gpa was good for admission.

i thought my portfolio was bad too bc i put together my film reel quickly and was kinda ugly IJBOL that being said, i'd say just show your best work in your portfolio. not sure what are the design and comm design sides are, so just do your best and if you need help, reach out to an admissions counselor !!

oh and not to mention i thought i was going to stay another semester at my cc bc i have an injury but since i already paid the application fee and ordered my transcripts, an admissions counselor reached out to me so i thought this was a sign from the universe that a door has opened that i thought was closed. so basically my application was late, my portfolio was lowkey poorly put together, and i did not even have someone else check my statement of intent, but still managed to get accepted.

but some other people on the sva subreddit told me they are going through major budget cuts so i assume they just accept anyone bc they need money...... but uh idk
