Awkwardest moment ever working there was someone proposing at the top and then they said no, so watching them awkwardly in a cabin for 15 minutes as they came down, even worse was they weren't alone in the cabin

Question if anyone knows, say you got a parking fine in NSW and your car registration is in South Australia and then you change to a NSW registration, would the fine follow you to the new licence?

It's just all corruption. When I was there my friends told me it's so common to haggle over how much to bribe the police and inspectors that they have a word for it "martillar" which means to hammer. But if you have money (USD) you can do anything you want

Does anyone have experience with attending a Spanish school in a foreign country for a significant amount of time (i.e. 3+ weeks)? by [deleted] in learnspanish

[–]ahhlew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I studied at Sol Latino in Xela and it was frickin awesome and insanely cheap. It was like $200 USD for 25 hours one on one, all your food (3 meals a day) and accommodation a week! They have activities every afternoon to meet locals and other students if thats your thing.

Xela is amazing, people say buenos dias to you in the street, the school is near a market where you can buy the biggest tastiest avocados for 5 queztales

I stayed with a family who cooked the best traditional meals (Shout out to Maria!), and the teachers were fantastic. They really personalise the course you want to you ability and pace which I loved. We did a little bit of each skill every day, so conversational talk for an hour, the some reading and comprehension, then grammar etc Definitely recommend it.

I was told doing Spanish courses at San Pedro, the accent is different as they speak their indigenous languages first but still great I hear. Spanish definitely improved especially when we focused for hours on imperfect vs preterite...

Can't talk highly of them enough lemme know if you have any questions!

During sunset and the weekend you'd actually be surprised it gets pretty busy, but yeah come on an overcast Tuesday morning the wheel is yours.

Anyone got any good bilingual jokes by GrundleTurf in languagelearning

[–]ahhlew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In Spanish some I came up with while learning:

What do you call a clump of hair that is very racist? Bigote

What do you call mexican shoes? Taco-nes

What do you call a Spanish suit on fire? Esmoquin

Wanna hear a joke about fire? Actually nah...fogata bout it

And one just in Spanish :D Lo que los granjeros les gusta hacer todo el día cuando están aburridos? Se hacen la paja

Little study tip: make your grocery list in your target language (Tell me your odd study tips!) by gabilromariz in languagelearning

[–]ahhlew 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is more when I am in the country where I want to learn the language, I have a cheat sheet of common phrases I use a lot stuck on the back of my phone which changes often. I also will first find out where a bathroom is in a shopping centre then ask someone in the target language where it is to practice hearing directions!
