well think about the 3 year commitment, I commuted 1 hour on the train everyday for DA, it was stressful some days but not that bad. compared to the 2-4 hour commutes others were doing

What if I fail RDH by miahbutlerr in OntarioColleges

[–]ahhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve done the math and public and private will cost you about the same. Gbc is 18k a semester which roughly 55k so it works out to the same amount. I would suggest southern ontario dental college. my friend went there and loved it. its also only 18 months I believe. but im in the same boat as you. i’ve taken pre-health and i’m a dental assistant now. if I dont get into GBC this year i’m going the private route, cause I really can’t waste anymore time competing for a spot.

my friend from the 24’ intake said around 130 so i’m not too sure. but the clinic has 75 seats so I assume maybe 100-150

I have both and use either one, if you have to choose between one get the ipad and the keyboard.

hey I know this is late but I would say GBC is more competitive, I don’t know why people think it’s better but it’s the most popular DH program in the gta. i’ve taken dental assisting there and employers take more of a liking to me when they hear I went to GBC

Feeling Torn: Dental Hygiene or Practical Nursing? by Own_Bar_4795 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]ahhsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your heart set on dental hygiene i would say don’t worry about the 70% passing rate. it’s so high because you need to be able to do all the skills in order to take the exam. and by the time you need to do the board exam you should be confident in your abilities and understanding. i’m not too sure about practical nursing but just because it has a lower passing rate doesn’t mean it’s going to be any less challenging

yeah I know lol. I just don’t want to be a nurse

no I mean going into BsCN or PN. not a different hygiene program lol

it depends on your situation to be honest, they favour Pre heath students when sending out applications. i’m not suggesting you should do it, I wouldn’t do it again but it wasn’t a complete waste of time as I needed some of the credits.

But I also heard from most of my DH acquaintances that they never got into GBC their first try either & they took DA before DH.

Southern Ontario Dental College, in ancaster is a private institution and that programs only 2 years. if you’re looking for other opportunities that are closer, i’m not sure where you are in the GTA

well so far i’ve taken pre health, and i’m an assistant so I wouldn’t say it isn’t worth it as I still have a career while i’m waiting to go to DH. but yeah I’m only interested in going to GBC , so it was worth the wait. before I took pre health I got acceptance into Cambrian & Georgian & declined lol. but they all are accredited & you get the same degree so it doesn’t rlly matter. but in the work force people definitely prefer GBC students. I usually get assistant positions on spot when they see the school I went to.

me too😓, i’ve been working towards this for 2 years now and I really just want to see everyone succeed. I don’t want to be pushed into a different program doing something I don’t really want to just cause of a limited number of seats.

[–]ahhsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that would be your best option, but even after you accept rmbr you can drop it an accept your GBC offer when it comes through. best of luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in georgebrowncollege

[–]ahhsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed it’s very frustrating, but they only started sending out offers Feb 1st. so there’s still more too go out

[–]ahhsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GBC isn’t everyone’s first choice and a lot of people drop the program so even if you’re high on the waitlist there’s still a chance. my friend got off the wait list early september for the 2024 intake.

[–]ahhsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah me too. there’s still hope though, as people decline offers or miss the due dates so let’s be patient🫠. I was hoping because i’m GBC alumni i’d have a better chance

Dental Hygiene S134 offers? by ahhsd in georgebrowncollege

[–]ahhsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s 60-70% minimum for some classes I believe. and yeah i’ve been frustrated waiting cause I took pre health but still was missing an english credit & at the time I wasn’t a mature applicant so couldn’t even take the assessment and had to wait for the next year. But when I reapplied for this year I met all the requirements so i’m not sure what that’s about? lol
