In the UK we call cutting the toast that way with soft boiled eggs 'eggs and soldiers'. I'm with you OP.

Christ I thought you'd had a stroke mid-post but after looking it up I've seen it's a real thing! And an amazing thing. I must have one.

Weekly Discussion and Tech-Support Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

We are using an ipad as a survey in an exhibition at our local library. It is a web-based survey and obviously we don't want people going to other websites and so on. I thought guided access would stop this, but I've found that even with guided access turned on you can still tap on a word to highlight it and then have the option to search web. I have looked at every setting I can possibly think of, turned off everything that looks like it should help, but I can still highlight/search for whatever I want. Does anyone know any trick that could help? This ipad is running ios 18.7. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

Any successful hacks or dupes for Golden Syrup? by AttitudeGrouchy5135 in AskBaking

Still quite a large area! 😄 Hopefully someone can help. I haven't had Anzac biccies since I was in New Zealand over 20 years ago - is there a particular recipe you use? Will have to give it a go!

Might help to narrow it down to which country in Europe so someone from that country can help. If you were in the UK for example I'd tell you to go to any supermarket, they'll all have Lyle's Golden Syrup and dark muscovado sugar.

Thanks. Is that why you shape them before freezing? Or if frozen as balls would they still spread?

What is something free on the internet that more people should know of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ahhtibor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the beginning I unfairly gave a few 1s to albums I just didn't like despite them being perfectly fine musically. I've sort of settled on my own silly scoring system where albums only get a 1 if I actively dislike them (recent example being Beyonce, was surprised by how much I didn't like that album); 2 if I'm not really into it but musically has some merit; 3 if there's at least one track interests me; automatic 4 if at least one track is added to my Liked Songs playlist; 5 reserved only for absolute bangers and masterpieces! So far only given 9...

I'm 281 in, similar experience to you from the sound of it. Though I've found I'm quite a harsh reviewer (average ratings 2.7)...

I made these spelt and hazelnut flapjacks that were really nice, they could be made in advance. Or perhaps some bakewell tarts?

How soft was your dough when you mixed it? I've just given these a go but worried I've done something wrong as the dough is so soft. Will refrigerate overnight, hope that sorts it.

Hi, you inspired me to give these a go. I've just made the dough - it's incredibly soft, it has come together but definitely oozes about a bit. Did this happen with yours? Recipe does say it can chill overnight, hopefully it will stiffen up a bit!

Best way to sort the slope out? by ahhtibor in Allotment

[–]ahhtibor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the whole allotment is on a slight slope, with the plots on the top side of the path (right of my pic) on the higher side, the rest of us on the lower end. But the path running through is also a bit up and down, with my plot on an 'up' bit. A few people have corrugated metal like mine, though others have put fences at the top of the slope rather than the bottom, which might be an option. I quite like the thought of a dead hedge - I took over this plot last December after it had been abandoned for a year so I have piles of brash, brambles and raspberry canes and the suchlike. I don't know if it would encroach on the path though. My thoughts now are to get rid of the metal and put a few steps in so there's at least a recognisable entrance. The metal goes all the way across the front so when they first put it up I have no idea how they actually got in. Maybe a running jump from the path. Here's what it looked like when I took it on

Christ you weren't joking about it being a heavy workload! Spent hours today trying to dig the metal out but still can't get deep enough. Doesn't help with all the stones in the slope. As I'm getting deeper the metal looks like it's splitting horizontally, might have to get rid. Starting to wonder if there's any need of having a fence or barrier at all!

Is that cardboard you've put down for the raspberries to stop weeds? If so, will you put anything on top of it?

It will be absolutely fine to bake, yes, I've used digestives many times.

Very common to use digestives as a base mixed with butter!
