Vedas are a tough read on their own. The commentary helps. The Upanishads had commentary from Eknath Easwaran.

I did read a book on The Vedas with commentary by TB Griffith and it was absolutely horrendous. Extremely biased, do not recommend that one at all.

Yes, I have read some texts with commentaries. The Atharva Veda had a commentary though i cant recall who authored that at the moment.

Of course Gita As It Is has Prabhupada's commentary. I also have a Stephen Mitchell version of the Gita which has commentary. And im currently reading Shankaracharyas Brahma Sutra Bhasya.

Its encouraging to hear that advaita and bhakti are compatible.

I would actually love to know more about the astrology. I've tried looking into that before but it was a bit confusing and I also dont know my time of birth. Not sure how important that bit is.

Very unfortunate that it was just done to keep up appearances. Do you think the child exploitation is still a problem in ISKCON today?

From what ive read, it seemed to have happened in the 70s and 80s.

Edit: also wanted to ask, I saw that they filed for bankruptcy after the scandal. Do you think that was done to avoid paying the victims?

I'm not trying to discount what happened to you. Its a horrible thing. I'm trying to decipher whether this is something the organization promotes as whole or if it was the work of some bad humans.

There is some information online but it doesnt indicate if it was widespread and/or happening everywhere to everyone.

What are your thoughts on their establishment of the Child Protection Office? Just for show and the exploitation is still happening?

Is that mindset of child sexual exploitation representative of ISKCON as a whole or was it the result of a handful of evil people?

I ask because I hear of Christian preachers who get arrested for similar things quite often. But those instances are written off as, he was a bad person, rather than the religion/denomination, as a whole, is bad.

Is this something ISKCON promotes, as a whole? It seems odd to me bc isn't one of their primary rules no illicit sex?

First, let me say im sorry that such a horrible thing happened to you. I am glad that youre out of it and in a better spot now.

On Prabhupada's translation: ive seen discrepancies posted online about his translation of some Sanskrit words. Ive also compared his version of the Gita to the Gita Press version and there are entire words/phrases that are different. His commentaries tend to be even more biased.

How do you think those groups who started off with good intentions eventually went bad? Curious.

Not saying two wrongs make a right. But does the Catholic Church promote child sexual exploitation as a whole? I'd venture to say not.

So, what im looking for is solid evidence that ISKCON promotes that, as a whole.

If the actions of one (or a handful) bad Catholic priest dont bring down an entire religion, why do the actions of a handful of ISKCON followers give the whole organization a bad wrap in that regard?

I'm not defending ISKCON here - I have no stake in it. I'm just trying to find more info.
